Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

General PL Matchday Thread

I noticed last year that these threads weren't getting set up, making it impossible to discuss the 3 o'clock games and other games that wouldn't warrant enough interest for a match thread.

So I thought, why not have a general one that people will hopefully update each week throughout the season?

    3pm games tomorrow:

15:00 AFC Bournemouth ? - ? Aston Villa (Live on Setanta)
    15:00 Everton ? - ? Watford
    15:00 Leicester City ? - ? Sunderland
    15:00 Norwich City ? - ? Crystal Palace

All three of the newly promoted teams play. Hoping Watford can get a draw out of Goodison, but it's a big ask for the first day.

I think Bournemouth Villa will be the best game and I'd fancy at least 3 goals in that one!

Certainly a good idea for a thread.

It feels like the night before Christmas for me with the season starting tomorrow :D

I'd be happy with a draw at Leicester tomorrow. It would be great to catch them on the hop and get the 3 points but we're much more likely to lose than win IMO. We are severely lacking creativity and a striker who fits into Advocaat's system that can score ~ 10 league goals.

It could be a good day for the promoted sides - I've gone for Everton to beat Watford in the predictions thread but I wouldn't be at all surprised if Watford picked something up. I have Bournemouth vs Villa as being the game of the weekend and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a 3-2 either way and Bournemouth will certainly fancy their chances, as will Norwich.

    Bring it on anyway! :)

Good to see these back ;)

AFC Bournemouth v Aston Villa is the one I'm most interested in, can the super attacking side fashioned by Eddie Howe (surely the hipsters choice for this season) adapt to survive the much greater rigors of the Prem?

Norwich vs Palace for me. Not sure if I believe in the Palace hype to push for a Europa spot, so checking them out.

The camera angle at Bournemouth makes it look like league of ireland nearly! Be good to see Bournemouth start with a win today.

11,700 capacity at Dean Court. Is that the smallest ever capacity in the PL?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭Alfred Borden

Norwich playing some really nice stuff. Great move there but Grabban should be scoring.

Sunderland started well, a few early chances.

    Vardy scores for Leicester.

    Typical.

Sunderland are so messy at the back

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,302 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

O'Shea dropped, but Sunderland's defence looks no better.

    Leicester could be 3 up,

And now it actually is 2-0.

    Mahrez

Not his fault that the board haven't done what he asked. He asked for 4 quality players and got 1. If I was him, I'd walk.

Sunderland captain Cattermole, who gave away the penalty is hauled off and replaced by Fletcher.

Crikey - taken off after 30 minutes!

Watford won't make it to half time without conceding if they don't start playing again. Dropping off Everton way too much.

Gosling with an awful miss for Bournemouth.

Zaha for Palace. Cant say it wasnt coming. Norwich badly need a striker.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,177 ✭✭✭TheTownie

Guzan makes a save from Wilson one-on-one. Bournemouth not taking their chances.

Defoe pulls one back for Sunderland.

Sunderland getting their collapse in early this season.

It's the same ****e every year from Sunderland. A manager comes in and saves them at the end the of the season, stays on next season, then gets fired, then bring in a new manager who saves them.

It's a never ending repeating cycle.

Everton are playing awful, Martinez's hoofball tactics just aren't working.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,302 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

4-1 Leicester, Albrighton the provider so far gets his own.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,302 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

Pantilimon outside his box nearly makes a mess of trying to chest the ball, brushes his hands.

Sunderland pull it back again through Fletcher.

    4-2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,709 ✭✭✭✭Cantona's Collars

4-2 now in the Sunderland game,in reality Leicester should be 6 or 7 up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,796 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

    Thunderbolt from Barkley.

Ross Barkley equalises for Everton with a absolute beauty. 1-1.

Leicester and Sunderland by far the game of the day

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,796 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

2-1 Watford - dreadful slip from Stones ends up with him on his arse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,302 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

Rodwell extremely lucky to be still on the pitch, already on a yellow he lunges in nowhere near the ball.

Maybe like many Sunderland fans the ref is unsure if he is actually on the pitch.

    Kone equalising for Everton
