Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Cat and dog breakout.....

I recently adopted a cat who has a talent for opening doors and strolling around the house.....we already have a dog who can also open doors!
Luckily those two like each other and are happy to hang out together, BUT I have a second dog who I wouldn't trust to be alone with the cat for a second. We try to keep doors locked but I'm sure sooner or later someone will forget and the cat/dog 1 will open the door and let dog 2 out.....

Any suggestions on curtailing the adventurous activities?

Could you use stairgates to limit dogs access around the house? Or a crate for when you can't supervise.

I tried that before, unfortunately they can jump!!

I woudnt like to put dog 2 in a crate overnight which is really the main time I'm not around. He's 7 and never been in a crate so can't see it going too well!

I was more thinking of how to stop the cat opening the door if at all possible.

Do you have door handles or door knobs? If handles, turn them upside down, so you have to push them up to open, rather than down. Doesn't always work, but fools most escapees.

You can get tall stair gates! I use them.

Could you put the cat in the crate to keep him safe?

I might replace the handles with the type that turn....thanks!!

The cat can get out of the crate!! She's very small and quite skinny, maybe when we fatten her up an bit that might work. Her partner in crime (dog 1) knows how to open the crate, he worked out how to catch his paw in the bit that slides across and pull......smart little staffie x!!!

That would have been a good idea though, thanks :)
