Is Kilcock an OK place to move to?

    Our current landlord is moving back into the house we are renting off her in Maynooth meaning we need to find somewhere new on the area with not much time to do so.

    Finding somewhere within budget in Maynooth looks like it is going to be difficult so we are looking at Kilcock as a slightly cheaper option.

    We love Maynooth though and we are wondering if we might regret a move to Kilcock, a Google search suggests it's kind of the forgotten town of kildare with little investment meaning the roads are bad and there is a lot less in the town than in maynooth.

    But with Maynooth only 5 minutes away it might be ok? If the housing estates are nice and quiet it might be an OK place to move to?

    It is not a bad place to live but you do not have the same amenities that you would have in Maynooth as it only has half the population.
    You will also be outside the Dublin region for commuter rail.

    Train and bus links are very limited in comparison to Maynooth. Three good primary schools though and all co-ed from this years intake on.

    Also I know a lot of the newer boom built houses have pyrite just fyi. You'll find yourself driving to maynooth for everything.

    We took a spin down and spent some time in Kilcock over the weekend, we are still going to a viewing we had setup before going but it definitely didn't click with us like Maynooth did.

    I couldn't see myself living there - Oh well!

    Most of Ryebridge has been repaired and the newer houses are certified as Pyrite free

    Moved to Kilcock 2 years ago after living for 3 years in Maynooth (coming from outside Ireland).

    All what is said before is true - less amenities, less public transport to Dublin - but we still have not regret to have moved (rented in Maynooth, bought in Kilcock).
    There is Bus and train (although train is outside the short hop zone but you can use leap card on the bus)
    Our boys still go to school in Maynooth and my wife go to work by car so she drop everyone in Maynooth in the morning.

    With the Centra and the Tesco you have everything you need for late or early missing groceries.
    Lidl is also there.
    Very close to Maynooth and the M4 (also last exit before toll).
    Fair share of takeaway and pubs.
    Pharmacy, butcher, off-licence, barber/hairdresser, primary and secondary school.
    Great walk for the dog (along the canal and on the back roads).
