So no penalties and they hold them to a field goal. Show a bit of patience and discipline and the W is there for the Irish.

Here we go, red zone again.

There it is, TD Will Fuller! Irish up by 4.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,028 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Interception, game over, Irish are still alive. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,718 ✭✭✭polaris68

Interception by Kevare Russell! That should seal the win, not pretty but a win.

Can't see ND threatening the playoffs. Good team but nowhere near the top sides.

    Don't punt it, remember Michigan!

They just beat a previously unbeaten ranked opponent.

Everybody is raving about Clemson and we went into their house in monsoon weather conditions and only lost by two points. I think if they stay unbeaten the rest of the season that they will sneak into the playoffs.

The Irish will struggle away to Pitt, (normally do) but should win. BC and Wake Forrest won't present any problems. A win away to Stanford will be impressive and could get them into the playoffs.

Unbeaten against Cincinnati (5-3), Tulane (2-6), Charlotte (2-6), UMass (1-7), East Carolina (4-5) and UCF (0-9), it has to be said. Their signature win was against an offence-less Penn State, and it's only a signature win because Penn are a brand name.

Notre Dame are doing well, and it's all going to come down to that huge Stanford game, but i wouldn't put much stock in tonight's opponent.

The more important aspect is that Notre Dame won a game they struggled in and were below par, and it was a game they probably would have lost in years past.

If ND can beat Stanford and if Stanford win the Pac twelve ND have a chance of getting in.

However if Clemson win the Acc, they are in. The Sec winner and Big 10 winner will also get in.

So basically ND need the Big12 to tear itself apart and Stanford to win the pac12.

It's very hard to see a committee putting out two conferences for a one loss team that had an OK schedule and has no championship game.

It's the problem with refusing to enter a conference.

You just don't know, honestly. The one thing college football teaches every year is that the picture in early December is usually a lot different to where things were a month previous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,416 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

Anyway, season is now on for real:

    http://espn.go.com/college-football/rankings

ND no.5. Win out (lol, they'll **** it up against Pitt this weekend probably) and they're in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 583 ✭✭✭mooreman09

First time I desagreed with the committee. I feel they got a few calls wrong. The next month should sort it all out though.

I think ND fans are as shocked as anyone to find themselves placed as 5. They've been helped by how good Clemson have done lately, but realistically they are very lucky to be where they are. The front-loading of home games at the start of the season has probably helped them as well.

Hard to see them breaking the top 4 anyway. Sure they might win it out, but...yeah, they'll probably make a hames of something, most likely the Stanford game.

I just can't see winning out not being good enough tbh. Particularly with the best remaining victory in that scenario being the last one.

Especially considering one of LSU or Bama lose this weekend.

If Notre Dame win this weekend, they are probably top 4 next week.

There's no way Pitt beats the Irish. Pitt played poorly at home vs North Carolina and the Irish are a much better team than North Carolina.

I don't think Pitt are better than ND or will beat them but N Carolina are a decent side. They really should be still undefeated - their loss was a bit of a joke, Game 1 mistakes.

I'm very surprised that Florida are so far down when you put everything in perspective.

The winner of TCU and OK state should make a big jump this weekend. The Big 12 will be heating up a lot from this week onwards and their rankings will improve.

ND is reliant on the committee leaving out the Big 12 and the Pac 12. I just can't see that happening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,718 ✭✭✭polaris68

Notre Dame will need impressive wins against Pitt, BC & Wake Forest and obviously win on the road to Stanford.

Even then they would need one of the ACC; Big10, Big12 & SEC champions to be a one loss team. Hard to see an undefeated champion from these 4 conferences not making the play-offs.

Why not? Some conferences will have to lose out every year for ever more (well, until we go to 8). TCU / Baylor / Ok St. get to beat each other up the next few weeks. If one of the three emerges undefeated then yeah, they'd be in. But bear in mind that there are currently two SEC teams in the top four. I doubt that will be the case when the dust settles at the end.

Impressive first drive for Stidham in his first start for Baylor. 7-0 after 1 min 42 secs of the first half.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,028 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

K State leveled it up but a couple of runs and then Stidham finds Cannon for a td. Stidham looks really good.

    Stidham looks quality.

That puts Baylor on a level footing with TCU.

What a game it'll be when they play.

We are on the final straight to the playoffs now! Some big games tonight - especially looking forward to FSU at Clemson and LSU at 'bama.

This will of course be after watching the usual close game between Notre Dame and Pitt.

    Alright! TD Notre Dame.

3 plays, Prosise, Prosise and Kizer to Fuller.

Lucky to hold them the to 3 there. Tyler Boyd should have caught that pass.

Thought Adams looked great when he's gotten touches this year so i don't think there'll be much of a drop off from Prosise. Actually thought Adams would get the shout when Folston went down.

Kizer to Fuller again. 21-3 Notre Dame.

Cracking touchdown by Notre dame. Think they'll put it away at this stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,718 ✭✭✭polaris68

Yes, played for Pitt. There's a bunch of ex-Pitt greats there today, Tony Dorsett and Dan Marino as well. They are honouring some coach at halftime.

Got that wrong, they are retiring the jersey of another ex-player, Jimbo Covert.

Looked very good on that drive. Finished off with another Kizer/Fuller special.

Notre Dame defense has been terrible in the 3rd quarter.

What are Pitt going doing on the line? Last I checked they're two scores behind
