Reuters is reporting that a Chinese investment firm, whose chairman Wang Jianlin is the richest man in China, is in talks to purchase the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), owners of Ironman.

    What do you think?

Is it a sign that the market is at a peak?
What changes do you think a new owner could bring to WTC?

nah, it's just business decision IMO. Same thing happened not that long ago in gambling industry. I think that it's just natural that bigger companies/investment funds buy-off "smaller" ones once they reach certain size - easier for smaller ones to sell than reorganize so that they could be profitable on a big scale that Ironman is coming to. Obviously, this might bring in some "bad" commercial things into the sport, but we have to face that if we want triathlon as a mass sport.

From its beginnings on the shores of Waikiki Beach on the island of O’ahu in Hawaii in 1978, IRONMAN has organized, promoted and licensed triathlon events for 37 years, and owns five exclusive triathlon brands, operating at least 250 events every year around the world.

    from here: http://www.triathlonbusiness.com/2015/featured-news/sold-wanda-group-acquires-ironman-for-us650-million/

Anyone know what are the 5 triathlon brands owned by IRONMAN?

I didn't realise IRONMAN were involved in the original Ironman, possibly poetic license by the journo (?)

one of the people from the first race had something to do with this and then sold on and on andon.

Sorta like if you sleep with someone you slept with everyone that they ever slept with. Thats the sorta way IRONMAN corp ran the first one.
