Yeah it's worth trying at least, even if it doesn't go ahead. I'm at the NYNY, good Irish bar there from what I've heard, could be a good place to run into people.
Sounds like a good venue actually, I'm just across the road. Anyone who wants to get in touch with me can follow me on twitter at Philiphanna_. (That's my name and an underscore) Let me know you are from boards and I'll follow you back.

Potentially helpful post regarding hotel room fees and resort fees and bull**** taxes: it's only applicable in hotels that have casinos, I found out about it after my first trip used it for my 2nd trip and saved a decent amount.

If you go to the hotel services and enquire about a casino loyalty card because your planning on doing a lot of gambling and that you'll be spending $250 a day minimum in the casino and then demand that you receive a discount off the room and that the bigger the discount you receive the more you'll have to spend in the casino. I heard about it off my mate who was living out there and didn't think it'd work but then they reduced my room rate from around $75 to $19 so I'd say to at least give it a shot and I'd say you could bluff the amount you'll spend...I never spent more than $120 in a day on gambling and still got the discount based on what I claimed I'd be doing??

It's just a thing Vegas does to rip people off. All hotels have a mandatory resort fee which is supposedly for things like Internet, cleaning, pool use and so on, but you have to pay it regardless of what you use. The Excalibur is also 28 per night, per person.

Excalibur isnt that price. And resort fees arent per person there per room per night.
You can easily get out of them if you can open your mouth ..

Very jealous of people going over to this. I'm heading to Asia in late November and was trying to justify to the missus why we should go to Vegas for 5 days too for this......... but I was fooling her AND myself!

    What a card!

It's definitely that price. Although it is per room and not per person. I fully expect to have to pay it.

Resort fee was $20 per night in Planet Hollywood IIRC. But that hotel seemed a bit 'meh' compared to others, but at least it's not too far from the MGM

Good idea, I'm not sure how much I'm going to gamble while I'm there but its def not all going to be in my hotel casino. I wanna tour about and see different places. We're Irish, people always say we have the gift of the gab, so play upto our (only positive? lol) stereotype :D

Saw him last time & it was decent, the Q&A at the end was the best part though, absolutely obliterated 2 fellas who to be honest didnt seem all that with it mentally. Was funny but borderline bullying

Wouldn't bet on there being a show before 194 though, he'd surely be commentating the TUF finale seen as it's such a big headliner?

I don't know, but with 3 nights in a row I'm sure Florian/Stann,etc will be about to cover the other nights. Its quite rare(from my memory) of Rogan&goldie doing anything other than PPVs.

At the Q&A were the fella's heckling him or trying to act the comedian? No point trying to be funnier than the standup while he's standing there with a mic in his hand that everyone can hear him...and you are shouting out with about 5 people around you that can hear & understand you.

First guy seemed a little simple, came down to the stage & told Joe up close that he was "the worlds biggest MMA fan" & would love to talk with him privately sometime. Joe kinda took the piss out of him a bit before your man told him he was a competition winner that some network had run to find "the worlds biggest MMA fan" & Joe was all like "that's doesnt sound like a real competition man" whilst winking to the crowd so to speak, yer man stayed talking though & it got really awkward so much so that after a few mins I think Rogan kinda sensed that he was losing the crowd a bit & he was being seen as almost bullying this borderline retarded guy so he kinda called a halt to it.

Then this dope from Oz stood up & instead of asking a Q started on about how Joe had "changed his looiiiiiife"....must've said that + "Im from Australia" about 20 times in the space of 90 secs, so much so Rogan even told him to shut the f**k up saying he was from Australia & pretty much obliterated him then which was funny but again got a little awkward after a while.

I then queued for the bones of an hour for a pic with Rogan as I'm a massive podcast fan & had the misfortune of being stuck in the Q with the aussie guy, managed to pawn him off on 2 lads in front though & after 5mins you could see them itching to get away from him but didn't wanna give up their place in line.
We get to the top, yer aussie man goes upto him & Rogan knda has a laugh with him but assures him it was all just a joke, that that's his job & yer man is fine but continues his "you changed ma looiiiiiife" schtick...gets his pic & starts to walk away but then comes out dead serious with "you did kinda take advantage of me though" :o Proper cringe & he pretty much had to be ushered away

I'm a big fan & average maybe an episode or 2 a week but Rogan in general is a bit of a bully, you hear it all the time on the podcast with Redban & even Bryan Callen as of late....very clued in dude but contradicts himself & talks utter bollox alot of the time, there's a Joe Rogan2 page on reddit where they basically rip on him the whole time & some of it is pretty funny & true

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,480 ✭✭✭Devastator

TBH pulse I wouldn't have sympathy for either the 2 fellas you were talking about :D They've paid the exact same money into the show as you but they feel they have a divine right(well maybe give number 1 a pass as we dont know full story) to stop the show just for their benefit. F**k 'em :D

Your story actually reminds me of a John Bishop show I went to about 5(guessing) years ago. About 1/2 way through the 1st part some fella in wheelchair rolled himself in front of the stage and wanted a full 1 on 1 conversation, with some awkwardness Bishop tried to engage with the fella....but the bloke wouldn't be quiet. Everytime Bishop tried to continue the show the fella started mouthing off again and again, so after about 10 minutes of this happening Bishop just stopped mid sentence and goes "In all fairness with your wheelchair but will you F**K UP, people are not coming and paying to hear you!" Which got a big cheer but the silence only lasted about 30 seconds so Bishop just says over the mic "Can any of his mates,or anybody at all sort him out?" to wich some other bloke walked up to the front of stage, grabbed the handles of rolled the wheelchair fella straight out of the arena to a huge cheer:D

John Bishop was on radio in Liverpool about a week later and started talking about it

  • Registered Users Posts: 550 ✭✭✭Pulse8

Yeah I agree, the aussie guy put himself up for it by not just asking a Q & saving his gushing till the photo meet later but at the time it was proper dig your nails into your palms kinda stuff lol

For anyone heading over, I found this great app where you play blackjack and build up loyalty points to redeem rewards over in Vegas hotels. Play enough of it and you can get free drinks, casino credit, 2-for-1 buffet meals and other stuff. Might be useful to some of ye, can't say no to free shîte! :D

There's another one as well 'Slots - myVegas Free' or something along those lines. Got a buffet in the Mandalay Bay in July for little or nothing with my mate and it was some feed.

I'm not sure tbh. My mate's wife built up the points during her free time and I just took advantage of that :pac:

Also when we arrived for the buffet the queue was small but when we were leaving it was fairly big. We just got there at the right time. Beware.

Freaked i'm not going to make it back over for this. What an unbelievable card they are putting on Weidman V Rockhold should be a war! Nearly more excited to watch that than McGregor V Aldo at this point. Souza V Romero should be a serious scrap too.

Not sure how they plan to top this for UFC 200, they will need to put at least 3 title fights on as well as maybe the return of Jones and Fador fighting some big name in either HW/LHW... maybe Jones V Fador *squirt*

    Possible main card?

    Rousey V Cyborg??
McGregor V ?? Could be up at LW
    Weidman V ??
    Lawler V Hendricks 3

    Jones V Fador

Thats game is also available on android, just search myvegas in play store.

Messed about with it a bit, won some gold points or whatever they are called for the rewards.....but the most useful thing I've found out using this game is to avoid the blackjack tables at all costs while in vegas :D

Ohh and slots are available on the blackjack game, you just have to level up few times to open up slots

Yeah, I've found this too. Rogan is even worse to Callen when he's with Schaub, and Schaub is much the same with Callen on The Fighter and the Kid. It has been tough to listen to on more than few occasions.

Whatever about Rogan, but that's a bit they do with Callen, kind of like a running joke. He plays up to with the crazy stuff he says. Believe me, they laugh all the time about people thinking it's serious and telling him to be nicer to Callen. It's his best friend.

Dana says Conor's first title defense will be in Croke Park if he beats Aldo:

    http://mmajunkie.com/2015/09/dana-white-if-victorious-conor-mcgregor-gets-fight-at-80000-seat-croke-park
Conor McGregor’s dream of headlining a stadium show in his native Ireland will apparently come to fruition if the interim featherweight champion successfully unifies the belts at UFC 194.

According to UFC President Dana White, a McGregor (18-2 MMA, 6-0 UFC) victory over reigning 145-pound champ Jose Aldo (25-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) at UFC 194 will set up his next bout for Dublin’s famed Croke Park stadium, which holds more than 80,000 spectators.

“If he beats Jose Aldo in Las Vegas in December, the next fight will be in Croke Park,” White told the NRL Footy Show in Australia. “We told him he could defend his title at Croke Park.”

UFC 194, which plays host to Aldo vs. McGregor, takes place Dec. 12 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

McGregor and Aldo were scheduled to fight at UFC 189 in July, but “Scarface” withdrew from the fight less than two weeks prior to the event when he suffered a rib injury in training.

Chad Mendes replaced Aldo and lost to McGregor via second-round TKO in an interim title matchup. The original fight was billed as one of the biggest in UFC history, but the Aldo injury put it on hold.

Fortunately, McGregor won and set up an even more significant showdown with Aldo, which was originally discussed for the massive AT&T Stadium in Dallas.

White has mentioned Croke Park as a potential venue in the past, but the logistics of hosting such an event are complex, as White explained earlier this year.

“There are a lot of obstacles for Croke Park,” he told MMAjunkie in January.

Most notable of those obstacles is the time difference. For PPV shows, the UFC wants to stick to its 10 p.m. ET start times. To do that, the event’s main card would have to kick off at 3 a.m. local time in Dublin.

“They have a curfew at night where you can’t get permits to stay out that late and do an event there,” he said.

However, there are also other issues for the company’s bottom line.

“You lose about 25 to 30 percent on pay-per-view being in another country,” he said. “The amount of money for production for Croke Park, being outside – I can guarantee you it’s going to rain. I’m not a meteorologist, but I’ll bet you it’s going to rain.”

The Dallas-area stadium show didn’t materialize, but White said Croke Park is a realistic option given McGregor’s current global popularity.

“Ronda (Rousey) is definitely the biggest star that we have in the UFC, but Conor is nipping at her heels, that’s for sure, especially in Australia” White said. “His last fight in Las Vegas, eight percent of ticket sales went to Australia. That’s a massive number. So it’s crazy.”

I highly, highly doubt it to be honest. I'd be very surprised if an event ever happened there. Hope I'm wrong though.

The only way Conor could defend the title at Croke Park is if it was a UFC on Fox card, and that throws up another set of obstacles again. There is zero chance of a PPV happening here at Croke Park, for many reasons, the main one being the time difference due to the curfew. The card would have to finish by 3pm Pacific time, and no matter how popular Conor is in the states, the PPV numbers will be terrible for that time of day, and there's no way a fight this big is shown on tape delay.

UFC on Fox is slightly possible because instead of taking in PPV revenue, they rely on ad revenue instead, and don't have to worry about viewership or buy-rates. It's a money game at the end of the day, and it's why I'm doubtful this Croke Park event will ever happen. (Best we could possibly hope for is Duffy vs. Pettis next summer in the 3 Arena, and even that's a huge long shot, it's a best case scenario that likely won't see the light of day).

Lots to happen before this might come to fruition but if he does beat Aldo then you'd have to think Croke Park would have to be around March as they'll surely want McGregor fighting at UFC 200 in July.

    100%!

The question is after all his comments IF he wins and he defends his belt does he go on to defend again at 200 and probably get the main event or does he move up to LW and then surely he can't have the main event ahead of at the very minimum 2 title fights but id expect 3 or 4

I think the UFC have to do Croke after all the talk and build up. Yeah it won't fit with the American PPV audience but so what, Conor's not American.....in fact lots of UFC fighters are not American yet everything is fitted to them.

Doing it as a fight night(or similar) in the states and charge companies HUGE advertising fee's to be shown on a McGregor bill, we've heard for years how much 1 30 sec superbowl ad costs, granted not the same numbers but still a lot of money in there.

Also don't rule out it being PPV in UK or Europe as a 1 off. I don't know the full details re Croke & the residents etc, but if the UFC push ahead with this it will be 1 of Ireland's biggest ever sporting events/achievements so I would like to think people will be a little more willing to comply....although a 3am finish will never happen.

Is anyone who is going to #194 in any doubt of the outcome of McGregor/Aldo? I wouldn't be going if I though Also would win :D I am happy to read this from Dana though, if they are serious about looking into Croke then it sounds like they're confident Jose wouldn't pussy out again, surely he cant do it twice!!?!!?!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 253 ✭✭Chase3

I'm picking McGregor but it's a very close fight, depending on how the guys look on the night and how the build up goes, it could go either way.

It's in no way a sure thing at all.

If Dana white said it, it's got a 99% chance of being total bull****, the man just likes the sound of his own voice.

There is no way in hell they will try and sell an event to a European PPV audience, it makes no sense for them financially. If the fight happens in Ireland it will be in the Point, nowhere else has the ability to operate that late without residents blocking it, and rightly so.

How many years have we been hearing about Dallas Cowboys stadium and it still hasn't happened. I think this is just another case of Dana doing what he does best - hype and promotion. I'll be shocked of Croke Park happens. Conor is probably the biggest (second biggest) draw in the UFC right down. All of his fights will have to be PPV or Fox and I just don't see that happening on Europe time. They won't isolate their biggest PPV markets.
