    Lads,

Not sure if I should put this here or in the Terrestrial TV section, but I just had a quick question. I'm in the middle of upgrading the TV server for the house. Looking to save a few shillings while I'm at it. Am I correct in assuming that Saorview is only broadcasting on 2 muxes at present? Is there any plans in the pipeline to add any more?

If it's a case of just the 2 muxes, will I be ok with a dual DVB-T/T2 tuner card to serve the whole house? IE can say 4 tvs view the whole spectrum of channels on something like tvheadend from the one card as I only need it to be connected to the two muxes?

The choice is between a dual or quad tuner and the difference in price is about €100. It's be nice to put the €100 towards something else if I can

Yes only two muxes at present.
It looks (to me) that it will be quite some time before there is an increase in that (if ever).

Yes a dual card will serve as many TVs with Saorview as your LAN can handle.

I use TBS cards as I want cross-platform drivers.
I use Openelec in the backend box feeding clients devices like NUC/R-Pi etc. at the TVs.

Erm why would you want more muxs?

When they were all on one mux my hptc with a single tuner (none dual ) could access all the channels at the same time. That is to say I could watch 1 channel while simultaneity recording ALL the other channels. Or with the right software, I think with dvbdream, you could watch ALL of the channels at the same time.

Now with 2 muxs that's not possible anymore :(

Not sure what point you are making but ......

a specific tuner is required to tune to a single mux, and all the channels on that mux (both radio & TV) can be viewed, recorded or otherwise accessed by multiple devices on the LAN.

Each mux has limited space, so as one mux fills up with channels, other channels must be put on another mux.

Yes I would love to see a situation where we have a requirement for 3 or more muxes on Saorview, as that would imply we have many more channels available to us than presently (they fit on two muxes).

My point is is that I'd I'm much rather have all the main irish channels on one mux instead of spread across 2 or more muxs, as it used to be.

More mux's = more unnescessare cr*p channels and a need to have dual or quad tuners which are more expensive than single tuners.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking at putting in a TBS Moi Pro server actually so just needed to know if I should spec it with a dual or quad DVB-T card. Dual it is so.
