80,000 plus at the march today according to some reports.
RTE played it down to 'tens of thousands'.

Hopefully the coppers will let them disperse without starting trouble.

im just back mate id say even more than that, even the rain couldn't keep the people away, it was excellent and the message is loud and clear, people have had enough of this government and Irish water, they are in decline and are like a wounded animal lashing out and trying every dirty trick in the book.

If the gards do not react - "see, the Gards didn't react, so there was no trouble and the protest was peaceful"

But you're already gearing up for "if the Gards do react in any way, it's police brutality and boo-hoo victimhood!"

Comical really, in it's transparency. :pac:

Isn't it amazing that we could find a judge and court available on a Saturday morning, to postpone Seanie Fitz's case forevermore .

But supposedly, can't find one to "charge" the water protestors.

    Justice Irish style!

Only one by the sounds of it wanted trouble to taint a very democratic protest. :p

what are you talking about, this country is in a dreadful state with the exception of the select few and the golden circle who have their snouts ion the trough and follow the gravy train, do you seriously believe this country has actually come out of recession, there are still hundreds of thousands out of work, a lot lot more than the carefully massaged figures the government spin masters peddle to the media.
Provide them then, please. I never said FG have been brilliant, and I don't even like them myself to be honest, but they're the best of a pretty brutal bunch. It is undeniable that they inherited the worst situation any Irish government has in a long, long time - if ever. And it is undeniable that they have got us out of that, to have one of the fastest growing economies in the EU (if not the fastest). How anybody thought that was going to be a cake walk is just beyond me.

It doesn't cease to amaze me how quickly people forget the fear of going back to the 1950s/60s economically that we were at 5 years back.
For the record i am not a socialist and do not pretend to be or necessarily think many of their policies would work, however much of what the left parties say makes perfect sense, i actually believe you cant get any worse than FG/Lab/FF they are all pretty much the same, they have set this country back years.

I've just come back from a huge turnout at the anti water charges protest, of course the biased media will as usual claim there was only 10/15 thousand there when in fact there was 7/8 times that amount, the message is clear, people have had enough of this government and demand an end to austerity and water charges, the tide is turning and this government and IW are in decline, whether or not people want to believe it or not they will get a severe beating come election time.
Like I said, not a big fan of FG but they got us out of an unbelievably tough situation over the last four years. With the likes of Paul Murphy in power, I'm of the opinion that we would be considerably worse off than even the Greeks are right now.

They're mostly reporting 'tens of thousands' though, obviously much higher than '10-15 thousand'.

RTE in shock horror almost reporting it as it was, more than 80,000 i think, stretched right back to O Connell Bridge.

IW and the Government are on a life support machine and it will be all over in the next 7/8 months if not sooner.

I'd be fairly certain there where a few Garda attending the march on there day off as I hardly think they are all only to delighted to pay the bill. Garda are there to keep the peace, sadly theres a group of people only there to start crap with them.

But what a turn out, the government will keep ignoring this and Kenny will hide away as usual and not address the issue, I still for the life of me can't see what inspiration or leadership quailitys the guy has, he hasn't inspired me once. All doom and gloom, and always wanting more more more, work money or something else.

This country still has as many unemployed as when FG came into office as when FF created this crisis, there are tens of thousands of people on scambridge and CE schemes who don't count as being unemployed, what about the estimated 350,000 people who have been forced to emigrate to find work or face the grim reality of the dole queue, i count family and friends on that list as well, many of these people didn't want to emigrate but had to, so is this the fastest growing economy you mean is it?

Things have improved alright....for the select few, and of course the golden circle untouched by austerity who continue on the gravy train, you continue to mention Paul Murphy and the Socialists and Greece, i continue to tell you that i am not coming from a socialist perspective and again i will state that i do not necessarily believe in many of the Socialist parties policies, however many of their policies make perfect sense and with them onboard in a coalition with SF and Independents i believe this country will take a turn for the better, the people of this country absolutely must come first every ****ing time, that is an absolute priority, job creation, a proper health care system, an end to homelessness, an end to cronyism and austerity.

Ah...you've only gone and mentioned Sinn Fein!!

Cue the usual pathetic attacks. It's as predictable as the tide.

Interesting to see how RTE will report todays events, usually you'd expect lies from them, most of the mainstream media are the same it's hard to believe what they come out with so ill be intrigued to hear the reports.

I thought there would be more ,the fact i've been to bigger concerts in my life kinda puts it into perspective.

80'000 is the optimistic figure too

it's good to see people willing to protest in a country that would have it outlawed if the powers to be could do just that.

The protesters today certainly bet the crap out of that fine gael propaganda myth!

It is not an impressive turnout. Something as frivolous as a pop band attract more.

Think concert person is forgetting Irish people generally don't do protesting. Anyone remember anywhere near this turn out for another issue ?

    Incidentally, no RedC poll tonight.

I can't fathom how he's comparing a concert, where people pay to be entertained, to a protest march, where people are protesting against a state quango squandering our money.

    There's just no comparison.
