    Hard to see but did it put its front legs together and wave slightly when you approached it?

    Can't say that it did. Here's another photo. It might be clearer. It scrunched itself up a little when I got near and hid in the grass before getting back on the trampoline net, which it seemed to be using as a web!

    Looks like a Cross spider, aka garden spider.
