Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

That's the most ridiculous penalty ever given.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

What a joke of a penalty decision that was. Absolutely pathetic refereeing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,506 ✭✭✭✭castletownman

    It's a damn conspiracy

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

It's another awful penalty but it's a goal somehow. Of far more concern though is the wellbeing of Messi who took a brutal knock to the head.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,854 ✭✭✭zuutroy

Could it ever be considered a reckless diving punch? He did nearly behead him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

    Well he seems fine!!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

Goal! 2-0! Nearly beheaded one moment, the next he is scoring, Lionel Messi is a fighter. It's a special moment for the Argentine, it's his 50th game in the blaugrana and he's marked it with a goal, another moment to join the many special moments we have been privileged to witness during these 500 games of Messi.

Never a penalty, then Heiko gets kicked by Rakitic when he tries to clear it, sending it into his own net.

What a crap 5 minutes for Betis.

I would say so, but it's very rarely given with keepers getting licence 'to take everything'. I wouldn't give a penalty though.

You can see the Betis players' heads have gone since.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,603 ✭✭✭lassykk

That was a shocking penalty alright. Never seen one given like that before. Messi did take some slap from it though!

    Lovely second goal though

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

Goal! 3-0! I simply can't talk anymore about Busquets as I risk being considered some kind of stalker, but it's just so Busquets, he wins the ball back for the team and that no look pass into Suarez would have made Xavi or Iniesta proud. I'll say it again, best midfielder in the world!

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

Busquets getting taken off now for a bit of a rest, Barcelona's holding midfielder has had a phenomenal year. He's stupidly overlooked in these player of the year awards but there is not 5 footballers on this planet better than Busquets and certainly there is no better midfielder.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

Lovely stuff there as the Sky commentary team told the story of Irishman Patrick O'Connell who is being inducted into the Barcelona hall of fame. He more than merits the honour.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

A combination of Adan and the woodwork are keeping the score down, Barcelona could easily have 6 or 7

Is it my imagination or is the picture quality of la liga on tv really poor this season?
Really poor picture on both sd and HD for the Barcelona match

It's routinely below the standard expected, but the audio is the main issue, it's usually terrible.

It's 4-0, this Barcelona side might be the closest football will ever get to the Harlem Globetrotters.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

Ahhhhh that touch from Neymar! This man could not be more like Ronaldinho.

All over, 4-0 in a game that could have been difficult given that there were fears this could be a sluggish Barcelona performance coming off the Club World Cup in Japan and the lack of training time for key players. 3 points, back to the top of the table.

    Not for Real Sociedad.

Agreed. The most devastating front three in history. The three best players in the world playing within 20 metres of each other.

Didn't think Barca played well until penalty. They had no real opportunity tbh. Betis lost their mettle after that. Even though I don't think it was a penalty I actually think it should be a penalty in future. It's only a matter of time before a keepers fist inflicts a serious injury on someone.

Neymar arguably should have been sent off in the first few minutes. His penalty should have been ruled void for a double touch (impossible for a ref to see that tbh)

Barca definitely got the run of the green.

Well Gary Neville lost his first league game in charge of Valencia.

Not a great game to lose - a Derby match against Villarreal.

He set them up very defensively - 5 at the back almost and at times 8 men behind the ball.

Took a great goal to win it for Villarreal.

Next game is Real at the Mestalla.

    He's managed in 5 - 1W 2D 2L

The other loss was the Champions League loss v Lyon.

If they lose against Real the knives will start to be sharpened.

Valencia fans are not known for their patience.

Just looking at the table there and atleti concede leas than a goal every 2 games. Astounding stuff from simeone and co.

It's unreal. As per the below:

This season's form for Athletico Madrid is similar to that of their winning season in 2014. They'll be the champs this season imo.

1-0s and 2-0s after wearing the other team down. Typical Ath Madrid!

Two matches, three goals in the last 10 mins to win those games.

They're some club to still be challenging Real Madrid and Barcelona given the fact they've lost a key player each summer for the last few years in Falcao, Costa and Turan.

Gonna watch Valencia later to see Gary Neville's style. Has he got them playing classic British football?

I hate Real so hopeful they lose

It's not been very promising, he played with 3 centre backs against Villareal and it didn't really work. They look very rigid. I will say, it's tough for any manager to go into a club with such high expectations that is faltering that far into a season and to try and turn it around, let alone for someone without managerial experience to do it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,578 ✭✭✭✭Turtwig

Real Madrid aren't exactly coherent themselves so this match tonight won't really help illuminate any impact Gary is or isn't having. It's early days yet but from what I've seen Valencia are no where near their potential. Players look to be a bit confused with themselves too.

No doubt if Valencia win tonight the British media will make a mountain out of it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

Real Madrid find the lead, there's no denying the quality of Benzema. An underwhelming 17 minutes which has followed the underwhelming reign of Neville thus far.

  • Registered Users Posts: 568 ✭✭✭Tomagotchye

    That goal was stunning.

Valencia look OK. Couple of half chances. Real are Real I guess

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

Andre Gomes has certainly been Valencia'a brightest player and he's forced Pepe into doing what Pepe so often does; act rashly. Some dreadful defending from the Madrid defender, brings down Gomes in the box.

Parejo dispatches the spot kick. 1-1

That chance at the end from the corner probably sums up Bale + Ronaldo's on field relationship. Non existent
