This is outrageous stuff altogether. Absolutely magical.

The last half hour of that game was nuts. Barca were just brilliant.

This team will rag doll Arsenal

I don't see too much wrong with his statement.

Soccer is the world most widely played sport and thus has more competition in it than any other and he's probably one of the top 3 soccer players of all time.

You could certainly make a strong argument for him being the all time greatest sportsman.

The crowd sing "El Cant Del Barça" they know they have witnessed something special. They are not an easy crowd to please, not surprising given the talent that has graced the Camp Nou turf but tonight's performance tonight ranks among the greatest of them.

I have goosebumps. I watch a lot of games each week and sometimes they can blend into each other. Not Barcelona. They are a world apart, they play a different game to anyone else. Theirs is a sport unique to themselves. There is no team, there is no club like Barcelona. Tonight was magic, it's why you and I love this sport. Barcelona is love.

To think I missed this match because I foolishly watched the garbage that was Man City vs Spurs earlier and got a headache from it.
Its like filling up on bread before a fine steak.

This Barcelona side dare I say it are better than Peps side ,more direct ,less patient but so so bloody effective.
Parking the bus no longer works against these guys .
Id say if you are a defender and you see those 3 boys,Messi ,Suarez and Neymar coming towards you ,you say your prayers .

So glad i decided to watch the second half of that match, i usually don't watch La Liga.

When Barcelona are good, they are very very good. Unreal football to witness.

:pac: You're not wrong though. That front 3 is the greatest ever.

Messi could've scored his 300th Barcelona goal, but gives Suarez a tap in instead of scoring the penalty.

The team ethic between those 3 is incredible.

I'd guess that Messi is genuinely trying to make sure Suarez wins the Pichichi this season.

I had this match on in the background and didn't really pay it attention until the penalty incident.

I can't believe they had the guts to try that and to execute it as well. At first when I saw it I thought 'oh he's tried to dink it and has messed it up'. Then a second later my jaw was on the floor.

    Good luck to Arsenal.

Normally when you're watching a match you kinda snigger or have a sharp intake of breath every now and again but it's all largely within the mortal realm and things tend to generally make sense.

2nd half today though I was just gibbering to myself. You might expect a moment like that maybe once or twice a season for a normal team but there was about 12 things today where I just couldn't even understand what was going on.

They score what would be most other teams goals of the season every week, 6 times.

I cannot imagine there has ever been a better attacking team. There can't have been.

Yeah they're good. But could they do it on a wet Tuesday night in Stoke I wonder?

I'm still sitting here wondering what I just saw. Some of those goals were unreal.

I think it could be time to put a few bob on barca winning the CL. Impossible to stop that front 3.

According to the stats, Barca's achilles heel is actually the warm sunny afternoons in Spain between 11:00 and before 5:30 pm GMT. They very much seem to be a late evening-time team.

They're as high as 5/2 at the minute. They're unstoppable on form and it's hard to see them being stopped when they're playing like that.

Ye a lad in work has big money on them I was surprised they were 5/2. If the front 3 stay fit I don't think they can be stopped.

    John Ashton
    @thedoveman1982

If United tried that penalty, Rooney would pass to Martial, who'd then pass it to Carrick, then on to Smalling and back to De Gea.

Teams will have some sort of chance so long as they keep being so vulnernable at the back.
Celta nearly made a serious game of it and had chances at 2-1.

I'd be very surprised if Arsenal don't score 2 or 3 between the two legs.

It's just that Barca will probably score at least 5.

Greatest footballer of all time cant possibly be judged, this debate is old of this generation probably but football is different from ten years ago never mind from Cryuff, Pele and Maradonnas era.
Greatest sportsman Im sure Michael Jordan would have him beat as would Bolt,
so tone it down and well all get along

    Ha sorry pal :)

That's fair enough but only Jordan and Bolt are the only two names you can mention, and if it names of guys of that stature, surely Messi is in with a shout. I mean I'd only have Jordan and Bo Jackson around that level, Messi has to be in with a shout.

But maybe I should just stay quiet completely and not ruin this budding friendship.

I could mention loads more, my point was comparing athletes cross sports in nonsense.
Jordan would be ahead of him on the fact alone he made basketball a mainstream sport which even Magic and Bird couldnt do and well Bolt is the fastest man alive
For example their is plenty who would consider Ronaldo equal to Messi, who is considered equal to Bolt or Jordan.
I see Messi the same way I see Lebron James. The modern phenom but not the master, for me that would still be Pele/Maradonna
Like Brazil Ronaldo and Ronaldinho had honestly more talent that any modern star they were unlucky/stupid with injuries and living a party lifestyle, this is actually what impresses me most about Messi/Ronaldo when you look at Rooney for example a player with all the talent just doesnt have the thirst for perfection

Why would Bolt and Jordan have him beaten.

Basketball isn't as widely played as soccer so you could argue Messi has an edge on Jordan by having more potential competitors in front of him to be the best within his chosen sport.

You could argue he's ahead of Bolt because Athletics has almost no skill factor involved (unlike soccer has) and is basically a test of how hard you work and how good you're genes are.

He's definitely in consideration for being one of the best sportsmen of all time and there is nobody you could categorically put ahead of him in my opinion. It obviously impossible to compare cross sports but I think what Messi has achieved matches up with the very best sportsmen in any sport.

Fun fact: that goes down as another messi penalty miss last night, his penalty conversion rate is probably the only thing that isn't near perfect for him.
Still, goes to show how much that front 3 look out for each other I remember in the 7-0 drubbing of Valencia both messi and Suarez were trying desperately to set up Neymar to score.

Well that's clearly not true.Wayne Gretzky and Donald Bradman would have the edge over him in that regard. They're records in their sports will almost certainly never be matched.

Wouldn't say that, but it is safe to say that Ronaldo and Messi finally have some competition at the top in Suarez and Neymar.

I said it when the Balon Dor was won, that Suarez deserved it and I actually feel dirty saying it since well hes just a bit of a prick, however I dont think he will ever win it since well its a popularity contest and he will never beat Ronaldo/Messi/Neymar in popularity

I agree that Suarez is a genius and will win a Ballon D'or soon . However there is no doubt 2015 was Messi's year by a long long way.

    I do.

Actually Bradmans average in Cricket is twice what is consdered to be greatness in the sport and he is consdered to be statistically the most dominant sportsman of all time. His career average is the equivalent of a basketball player averging over 40 points per game.

You can't say anyone is defintely the best like was argued above there are loads in consideration but no one can be considered definitely the best.

Jordan was the best individual player and also a great team player. He won three titles when he hit his prime then retired to try and make a career for himself in baseball. While he was gone for two years the Chicago Bears won nothing but when he returned they won another three titles and he retired again.

There is nobody that was as dominant in a team sport as him. It wasn't just his brilliant individual skills, it was also his team play and leadership.

Again, he is the GOAT of any sport and it's not even close.

Oh and btw, I'd have Bobby Orr up there with Gretzky.
