Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

That was a nasty swing in fairness. Although I have no idea why the referee booked Aduriz there

Yeah, probably would have been off if the ref had seen it, Umtiti needs to chill now though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Not sure what you are seeing but it looked like a punch in the neck and Umtiti's reaction since coming back on confirms he isn't happy with Aduriz.

The reaction seemed way over the top but by the letter of the law it was a red card.

I'm on a stream though so didn't see it clearly, was a punch or a swing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

That should have been a penalty, the leg was left out there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Can't keep up with all these bookings here. :pac:

Farce, pure farce. He's looking right at it, the only way it could be clearer is if a Bilbao player picked up the ball in the box and ran around with it. Players reactions are usually a give away to what really happened and this is pure farce.

That was a tasty first half, Bilbao deservedly lead but it should be a great second half.

Commentator on my stream says there was a closed fist so I'm going by what he's saying there but certainly a player playacting doesnt come back onto the pitch as furious as Umtiti.

Thought Umtiti was very seriously injured. Should have been red but he wasted a bit of time rolling on the floor although it was a nasty hit from Aduriz.
Bilbao have been superb so far. But Barca have had some terrible decisions go against them. Could have 2 penalties. The tackle on Neymar was a clear cut penalty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,907 ✭✭✭✭Kristopherus

Is that effing ref on Athletico's books? Neither did he or his linesmen or the 4th official see the blatant punch on Umtiti. And how he'll defend his refusal to give that stonewall penalty will be interesting.

That's the beauty of it, he wont have to defend his decisions at all.

    Messi!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

    Keeper should be saving that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

Genius!! Messi! The football equivalent of superman shows up exactly when you need him. Barça are back in this tie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,259 ✭✭✭HalloweenJack

Don't know what to make of this ref, has no control whatsoever.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,907 ✭✭✭✭Kristopherus

2 red cards for Bilbao !!!! Defo won't get paid by them !!!!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

Not enough composure late on, should still have had a draw though. 2-1 away from home isn't the worst score and at least gives us a chance at the Camp Nou. Borbalan (referee) was predictably awful.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

Pique says: "There was two clear penalties. But we know how this works. I don't even need to talk about the refereeing in Madrid-Sevilla game."

If Pique wasn't the best centre back in the world I wish he was President of Barcelona already.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,042 ✭✭✭✭chopperbyrne

I didn't see the Madrid vs Sevilla match, but what is Pique complaining about there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,018 ✭✭✭Bridge93

Pique really doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut. Always passing comment on other teams or referees. I hope he gets a significant ban. If he was as quick to sort out his own situation regarding the Spanish national team as he is to comment on referees, he wouldn't appear as the two-faced hypocrite that he is. No time for him whatsoever. Brilliant footballer but a total prick who whinges and uses the Spanish national team when it suits while sticking the knife in too.

A Madrid player pushes another Madrid player in the box, penalty given to Madrid.

A Madrid player pushes another Madrid player in the box, penalty given to Madrid.

This sounds like a very simplified telling of events.

Was it a corner or free kick with a lot of activity, and the referee made a mistake?

I highly doubt Madrid were given a penalty because one of their players shoved another of their players in open play.

    Any videos of this incident?

    Simplified indeed.

It wasn't a penalty but James pushed the Sevilla player who bundled into Modric and the ref gave it.

Pique is very clever. He knows exactly how to play the Spanish media and rile up the anti-Barca brigade. The same people always fall for it.

Villareal vs Barcelona is on now ,kicked off 15 minutes ago.

Entertaining game so far ,Villareal have only lost once at home this season.

    Clinical counter from Villarreal.

    Nice goal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

Stonewall penalty not given to Barcelona.

Then Messi hits the post just after.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,985 ✭✭✭ebbsy

What Barca would do for that pen now...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

Villarreal could have had a pen just there too.

Game is so open now. Great to watch

The referee has decided Villareal can use their hands. A refereeing performance to match the one mid week against Bilbao.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

Here come the random yellow cards.

Mascherano used his too to block a goal bound shot so should have been a penalty a piece.

Second shout barca had was never a pen. Just fell over on the ball but it shouldn't have been a free out either.

    That was ball-to-hand.

You KNOW he didn't do that intentionally.

6pts clear and a game in hand, league is as good as over.

Maybe, but his hand is in an unnatural position and that's what the law states as well

    Messi Magic :D

How can your man argue with that yellow on Messi.

    Disaster result there.

Valencia are in the weeds I see.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

It's not good enough. Not getting enough from an abnormally talented group of players, the reliance on Messi to win every game is far too great. He's the greatest footballer ever but the dependence on him in this current setup simply is too much, any other player would have crumbled by now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

Messi saves the day a little for barca but still 5 points behind real and they have a game in hand.

Barca were very sloppy in possession tonight, especially Neymar who lost the ball 13 times alone. Pretty sure barca have to win all their remaining games now to have any chance of winning La Liga and at the moment they don't look like doing that.

Neymar has regressed alot this season .
He seems to have gone back to being the bird brain wasteful player he was when he fist joined Barcelona.

He hasn't scored since October .

Madrid confirmed the greatest Spanish team ever today is worth noting as much as Barcas seeming demise.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,519 ✭✭✭Flint Fredstone

Great hit but the wall just opened up for him. It doesn't beat the wall if they stay together.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,740 ✭✭✭✭MD1990

Neymar has been poor too season. Get the impression he has lost focus like what happened with Ronaldinho although not as extreme decline. If he had Ronaldo's drive to become the best he can he would be in line to take over from Messi is a few years.
Suarez too isn't playing as well this season.

Messi has been incredible. Carrying the team each week. Ronaldo is great but Messi is on another level. Best footballer of all time no doubt about it.
