Hip dysplasia

Hi,

Am fostering an akita pup who we've just been told has hip dysplasia. Just looking for some advice food wise if anyone knows the best food to feed him?

Am not in a position to raw feed him at the moment so am looking for a high quality kibble that will help his joints.

Will be starting him on glucosamine & chondroitin asap but if anyone knows any other supplements I would love to hear.

Sorry to hear about the hip dysplasia. For food I recommend J/D from Hills. Sasha's Blend if you can get it in Ireland as a supplement is great, has Green Lipped Mussel which I find works better than Glucosamine.

When you're dealing with a joint issue the main thing is to keep the dog extremely lean. Food wise you want a good quality food that's going to build muscle - not one that's full of fillers that's going to fatten them up like Hills etc You don't need a "joint specific' food - you can supplement a good quality food instead.

- And I'll be adding YuMove to that once his other supplement (Flexicose runs out). I'm not having any problems with Flexicose but a friend recommended YuMove to me. Hydrotherapy is brilliant too and will help build muscle. If you're in Dublin I'd recommend Sharpwells in Coldwinters.
