    Hi all,

I'm currently looking around for some part-time degrees or related courses for Database/ DBA related material.

I'm currently in full time employment, and as part of ongoing development I've identified Databases as an area where I can get certification/education and bring real value to my company. WE have a gaping hole when it comes to Db stuff.

I'm pretty much self taught, and over the course f the last year a lot of DB stuff has come under my remit, which is fine, but I'd love to get myself proper recognised degrees/certification in this area. Not only will it help improve my immediate income, it will be handy down the line to have some CV related proof that I can work with Databases.

I've been looking around and can't find anything DB specific. While I'm probably at the intermediate stage , I wouldn't mind starting from scratch incase .

Basically any advice or direction on any DBA/DB related courses would be great.

As I said I'm in fulltime employment, 4 years working in application support and related areas, and have a level 8 degree relating to business information systems.

I don't think you'll find a degree specifically in databases, so I'd suggest a Masters in data mining or something.

    Hi,

    take a look at this:
    www.
    nuigalway
    .ie/
    courses/adult-and-continuing-education-courses/
    software-engineering-and-database-technologies.htm#d.en.7102

You can find more details on modules here as well:
    www.
    nuigalway
    .ie/mscsed/information_vault/

I'm attending (doing my thesis at the moment), already wrote about it here on this forum, find my previous posts, feel free to ask anything you want.

    With regards

    * Sorry for breaking the links down like that, but boards.ie won't let me post URLs because I have a low post count.

Galway bit out of the way I'm afraid.

Got some information from a place "New Horizons" that seems to come highly recommended for people working in the IT area looking for certification etc.

Our company works of the MS SQL platforms, so they have a course that provides MS certification. Sounds like the ticket. And as a few people recommended to me they are highly regarded. I'd maybe assumed and was looking at colleges and universities, but some contcts indicates the best places are like the above, that specialise in further education and certification for existing proffesionals.

And there I was having daydreams of going back to college life :D

FYI, this is a distance learning degree at Galway. Just thought you'd know. I'll take a look at your link later, thanks!

Ah, certification, that's a totally different kettle of stored procedures.

Yes, New Horizons are good, you need to be looking at the MS DBA track for SQL Server. Look up the Microsoft Website - it details the track you can take to get certified as a DBA on their products.

Yeah I think I came in thinking it was like degrees and ****, then realised it's really something else.

Got some details from New Horizon(very prompt live chat) and they forwarded me on all their details and the modules that lead to this and that.

Turns out our company have dealt with them before so that looks like a runner
