New Gaming laptop advice

    Hi all,

Looking at getting a new gaming laptop, I know desktops are better but that's not an option at the moment. Will also be using it for everyday use and a Postgrad in Software Development.

    Basic Specs:
    17" HD screen
    4th Gen i7
    16GB RAM
    128 SSD + 1TB HDD
    Nvidea GTX 970m
    3 year warranty

Have been shopping around for a good while now, had originally planned on weaker but want to get one that will last a few years so warranty is important. Laptop will be used for moderate gaming use and everyday use as well as needing the power for programming. Know that these specs will have a hefty price tag, originally had 1500 but now looking higher (still max €2500) especially for a good warranty, planning on using it for a few years.

Alienware 17 r2 is coming in at €2178 for those specs

PC Specialist is €2173 or €2267 for similar specs

laptopsdirect is coming in at €2683 for those specs with warranty...

Had always thought Alienware was overpriced but its coming in among the cheapest of it's competitors? It's warranty looks better and has a better rep for customer service so I'm leaning that way at the moment. it also looks like it comes with a better network and sound cards too, would normally have said you're paying for the brand and show but seem to be getting that on top of the cheapest specs?

Any advice or other alternatives that anyone can suggest?

    Thanks in advance!

You should be able to get the AW cheaper than that, keep an eye on outlets. But i'd say go with the AW, even at that price. A 980M would be better of course.

AW build quality is very very good, and their support is excellent.

What exactly are you doing to get that price from PC specialist? Looking at it now, an Octane with a desktop i7-4790S, 16gb, SSD+HDD, GTX980M, 17" full HD is coming in at 2K delivered.
