Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

For the non ticket winning thread..

I notice it is starting later this year on the Saturday, I seem to remember getting in at 12:30 last year..

Anyone fancy a meetup on the Saturday? There are a few of us meeting at around 2pm before the rush... a gentle stroll, talk to the brewers / wreck their heads.

Considering the dire news about Friday opening times you've just delivered me, it'll be Saturday for me after all so this is very possible.

Dire news? It's 5.30 until 12.30. Thought it was the same last year.

Disappointed that they have dropped the Sunday. It was usually a nice relaxed day that was busy without being jammed

    I will be there :)

Will be Saturday after 4 for me, would go Thursday but last year's Friday hangover in work is still fresh in my mind

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,033 ✭✭✭✭bnt

Include me in, please! I have the Friday free, so beer would be perfect.

On advice from somebody here, I went on the Thursday in 2013 and found it to be enjoyable and again in 2014. The brewers had all the time in the world to chat to you, beer (And merchandise if that's your thing as well.) was plentiful, you have heaps of room to move around in the room without a worry and there was little in the way of queues at the bars for the evening. Also, the earlier finish was grand as I didn't want it to become a piss up.

The one downside was that a few beers weren't on and one bar wasn't staffed. To be honest this wasn't a major issue given that it was a couple of beers out of over 100 others though if it was something you had head a lot about and wanted to try then yeah it would be a big deal.

is it in the same hall as usual?

the one that was used for the other festival around Paddy's Day was a lot better imo

Paddys Day festival opened earlier in the day, and I have this coming Friday off work already for another reason, hence I was hoping to be in and out suitably full by about 7 :pac:

Would there be much hassle paying on the door on Saturday, i.e a wait to get in?

Yes, which is 1/3rd of a pint which can make it a bit confusing if you call it "2/3rds mark" - especially considering it says "1/3rd pint" on it.

A spirited attempt is being made at an app, but it depends on the brewers supplying accurate information, and in eight years of attending beer festivals in Ireland I have never known that to work. Besides, not everything will be available all the time.

I'm willing to lend a hand here if needed. the current day job is making apps, probably too late to be offering though :)

There is someone on it. But the information can be slow to be supplied or sometime changes with out notice

The vans are probably being loaded today and tomorrow so it's just a question of going to each brewery and making a note of what's written on the barrels going in. I doubt there's any other way of getting the information.

:), story of the life of an app developer. Always waiting on info, then when it comes it's already changed :D.

Great to have the list on beoir anyways, I've already got my highlighter out.

Hopefully the app this year is better than the buggy one they had last year

  • Registered Users Posts: 972 ✭✭✭snowblind

You could just have webcams pointing at each of the stalls/menu boards and that's the menu.

But also part of the excitement for me is when stuff comes available while I'm browsing the floor as a surprise, so exact offering at a given time isn't necessary for me. Maybe a list of all beers the breweries will be offering at some point of the festival to know what to keep an eye for / what to ask about.
