A purebred is a non registered animal of the breed who has parents who are 100% bred from 100% purebred dam and sire. They may be registered with the breed society if it is given the breeding history of the animals.

Pedigree animals are registered with the breed society. They may not be 100% pure bred but may have been crossed with a purebred/pedigree sire form a number of generations to grade up to pedigree status.

Out of intrest, if you had stock with generations of purebread blood, how many generations do you need to Regester them as pedigree or can you do that?

I think it differs with different breeds. I imagine 4 generations at least which would leave even grade up animals at 93.5% purebred.

If you want to grade up then i don't think you have to grade up every ancestor, just the ones you actually have
