Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is it not the case that they need the bank licence to guarantee funds they hold are protected by EU guarantees?

Yes. But they didn't have that either up until now. Not having the bank license just removes those extra bits. It's your risk at that point.

Anyone having problems adding funds to their Lottery account using Revolut?

It has worked fine for months but this past 2 days I'm getting "The transaction was declined. Please contact your bank." on the lottery website .... and nothing is showing on Revolut to indicate a declined transaction. It's only €20 I'm trying to add

You sure you have been using the Revolut card for topping up lotto? They have been quite insistent that you can't top up with a card from a non-Irish bank.

I've never been able to do it with Revolut or N26.

As far as I know, your money is held in a Llyods bank account in the UK. Revolut are just an emoney platform. They are not a bank.

Your money is covered in the Llyods account.

    Aright lads,

I picked up a Garmin Vivoactive 3 about a week ago on an amazon flash sale.

Through a bit of research I found out that Garmin Pay supports Revolut Mastercard (not Revolut Visa cards). I emailed Revolut support to confirm and they told me that Garmin pay is in the Beta Testing stage.

I added my Revolut Mastercard to Garmin Pay and have been testing it all week and am happy to say it works flawlessly :)

On a side note I picked up the Garmin Watch for around €160 which is excellent value for money compared to the Apple watch.

Have some codes for a free card. They say you need to deposit a tenner but you can spend that or just transfer back into your account.

Sorry if its a dumb question, but I assume Revolut works at an ATM on the same premise as a regular bank card? And can be used in restaurants etc too? Mine arrived a month ago and I haven't used it yet-do I need to make a transaction with it first in order to verify it (like when getting a new bank card).

I don't want to be caught abroad after topping up my account but unable to access the cash :D

Make sure verify your identity in the app settings.

Then top up and use it anywhere.

Much handier in restaurants etc if all your friends have one great app for bill splitting etc

Used mine last night for the first time. Paid a portion of a restaurant bill, no issues.

I scrolled back a bit and read the last persons problem with the Paypal charge, but im trying to add my Revolut physical card to Paypal and i click ADD and bam i get the 1 dollar charge (i know why) but paypal wont accept my card saying "The billing address you entered is invalid. Please confirm the billing address associated with this card and try again." But i have matched it EXACTLY how it is on my revolut account....

    Anyone else have this problem?

I had a problem adding my card to paypal too, because I kept adding my eircode to the end of my address on paypal, whereas on revolut, it was at the start. Could that be the problem?

I had this issue aswel and never got to try and add it to Paypal, Would it be something to do with be a UK card or anything? Im anyone as a solution i would also like to know.

Are you putting the card as your main bank on PayPal or just an additional card, I did the latter and it was fine and then selected it to be primary payment option

Worked it out, had to add so many variations of it. Multiple 1$ charges which will be returned. Ended up the EIRCODE in the wrong place and although Leinster was in the revolut address Paypal didnt want to know about it. Got it sorted, thanks!

Just got it myself, Enter your eircode into the town/city column(With rest of address in previous columns) and i entered EIRE into Eircode section and it worked.

Unless there is another thread elsewhere compiling a list of ways that you can avail of a service cheaper by using revolut / n26 (on the basis that you are temporarily living in that country) and paying in another currency.

I know there is a Netflix thread but I was looking at how different services are priced comparison with Euro V USD. For instance, Down Dog Yoga app, the yearly charge is 52e but if I pay in dollars via revolut AND I was in the US when I paid it amounts to 32e.

Are there any other similar circumstances that you have all found in your travels, no matter how small?

    Subscribing to the Economist.
A good 10% delta from what I remember.

Also you can access UK iTunes (so get the TV shows through it)

How do I use the Revolut physical card to pay? Does the app automatically take the amount paid from whatever accounts you have on the app? Say if I have the equivalent of €20 in the GBP and 20 in the Euro accounts, will the physical card automatically use both accounts doing any conversion needed to make up €35, for example? Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,474 ✭✭✭TheChizler

The full amount has to be taken from a single balance, it can't automatically spread it across balance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 612 ✭✭✭JoseJones

You have to have the full amount to cover the transaction in one currency.

  • Registered Users Posts: 177 ✭✭ppn

I thought Revolut automatically does the conversion for you? Did I not read that elsewhere in this thread or am I missing something? (Or is it just that you need sufficient funds in any currency in a single account? Example; f I have €100 in my account and make a purchase in USD, the app will do the conversion from here and take the necessary amount?)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,668 ✭✭✭quokula

It needs to take the transaction from one currency in the account.

If you have 50 dollars and 10 euros, and you want to spend 51 dollars in one transaction, it won't be able to.

If you have 50 dollars and 60 euros and try to spend 51 dollars, it will convert approx 45 euros to spend it, and leave the 50 dollars alone.

If you have 50 dollars and 60 euros and try to spend 49 dollars, it will just take that from the USD account.

Eircode is more hassle than it’s worth for most people I think.
Revolut keep asking me to update a passport but I’m still waiting on mine, will the account still be okay in the meantime, I know they said after a no deal Brexit there was talks of accounts being suspended pending passport uploads

I'm the same regarding the passport. Don't have a passport at the moment, so I keep ignoring it. Account working fine at the moment anyway. Should be fine up to the end of October and we'll see what happens with Brexit then.

Anyone having hassle with Proof of Funds recently ?
I uploaded the relevant documents and was waiting weeks for Revolut to get back to me .
Got an email a few days ago that they had verified my source of funds and everything was ok.
Topped up my account this morning and straight away got another email asking me to verify my source of funds .
    Ridiculous carry on .

Some people are asked to provide details for anti money laundering.

I transferred some money from Revolut to another U.K. bank yesterday and the money was almost instant, estimated time frame was 3-4 hours but the person called me and asked how it went through so fast so kudos to Revolut for the changes they made

I've been wondering about this as I've seen it posted a few times in different forums. I was going to transfer 3k to an account last week but it would be the first time I've made a transfer that big and I decided not to do it in case it triggered an alert that would freeze the account. Just don't want the hassle of providing proof of funds. I'd prefer the inconvenience of going directly to my bank to make the transfer. I don't suppose there's any guidelines as to what amount would trigger an alert where you'd need to provide proof of funds.

Carry on as normal, I use Revolut for loads of transactions which are retail and private, I sent £4k to someone in England only yesterday and never had a problem and I think once the money comes from your bank into Revolut then you shouldn’t have an issue but if it’s bouncing around 10 Revolut accounts that’s when problems can occur or if you’re a new user

It's not just the amount that is taken into consideration, it's who you send the funds to, who you get the funds from, what your spending pattern is or if your name is on some sort of watch list and other factors.

They use an AI to deal with this and flag accounts for review, that is where they got in trouble last year, they activate a new one which was generating way too many false positives, so they had to roll back to their previous version.

If it was just an amount, people could work around that.

    Hi folks,
I'm spending few months in the US. Would revolut be a good option for payments while there? I have a card already. Will also have a US bank account so maybe it's better get a debit card with that and have money in that account?
Would it be worth having premium or metal card?
    Thanks,
    Mick

Revolut is great especially if you have data in the states. Friend was in a bar left the card behind the bar and little while later he got a notification saying he spent$15 in another bar. He blocked the card straight away and called the bar man yes his card was stolen. Another payment tried to be taken from his card and was blocked.

Well I'm not sure why they are flagging me but I am getting fed up of it at this stage.
The money is directly deposited from my AIB account into my Revolut account.
I dont send money to anyone else and I don't receive money from anyone else.
I only use Revolut to buy stuff online.
I've no idea how this could be construed as money laundering.

Any other bank have no issue with this but these guys seem to think they can demand documentation off me .
