Well, given the world hasn't collapsed in on itself with the introduction of gay marriage, at least we know Nodin should be around for it. :)

Would love to see the reactions of some of the posters ITT and people in general if this show was about Muslims lol

Yeah Christianity is an easy target in American TV and film, Christians usually being shown as bible thumping rednecks. Funny how other religions don't get the same treatment...
You must have missed the careers of Woody Allen, Mel Brooks, Larry David, Jerry Seinfeld, etc.

I also don't remember there being a thread on Halal in the Family/The Qu'osby Show when that came out in April...

Curb Your Enthusiasm had a number of storylines based on Judaism, and ones that really pushed the envelope, the sex offender at the Seder, where the Holocaust survivor meets the Survivor tv show participant, having sex with a Palestinian woman, being overheard calling his wife Hitler etc. etc. etc.

Jerry Seinfeld, Woody Allen, sheesh if anything Jews showed a marked ability to laugh at themselves. One show and the Catholics are seething...

It's like the famine sitcom that was brought up a few months ago, AH posters are funny in terms of how many bleet on about "just telling it like it is", "you don't like it, don't watch/read/listen", "don't try to criticise my free speech" etc.

But as soon as anything, even remotely controversial, strikes remotely close to home... oh then it's completely different! :pac:

I'd feel the same. Don't like it don't watch. I think most Catholics can take it.

There does appear to be something a bit iffy with how Irish American Catholics are portrayed,The Gallaghers in US Shameless,The Griffins from Family Guy,the Black Donnellys amongst others. There is definitely a list of who you can safely stereotype on American TV and I.A.C. are on that list with WASPs,Italian-Americans,Poor white southerners,Evangelicals among others.

Larry David may be able to poke fun at his own tribe, but would the show be less accecptable if it contained the same humour yet was formulated by a gentile crew? Ditto with Chappelles show and The Boondoncks-would white or black people be so comfortable if it was white script writers lampooning and making fun of Black culture?

Many don't like it,but in my opinion "South Park"is the only equal opportunities satirie on prime time US TV,I think that is all people are saying regards this new show.
Family Guy - Seth MacFarlane is from Connecticut, raised a Catholic, and of Irish/Scottish/English descent

The Black Donnellys - Paul Haggis was raised a Catholic (before becoming an atheist, then a Scientologist, then an atheist again) and is from London, Ontario which is over 70% of Irish/Scottish/English descent.

US Shameless - John Wells is of Irish/English/Scottish descent, and is Episcopalian (which describes itself as 'Protestant, yet Catholic' - whatever that means?), so more of a tenuous link - but it was also transplanted from a show based in Manchester which obviously has a massive Irish/Catholic community (couldn't find much about it's creator Paul Abbott's history though, apart from that he grew up in surroundings pretty similar to that of the show).

This show - Dan Savage is gay (did that "It Gets Better" campaign a few years back, which suggests to me he didn't have the easiest time with it growing up), was raised in Chaicago as a Catholic and when to a school he described as "a Catholic high school in Chicago for boys thinking of becoming priests."

That said, I'm pretty sure all of these shows and the other ones you mentioned had writers involved who were black, white, Asian, brown, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Atheist or whatever.

I can't see YouTube videos at the moment, so I had to go searching just to find out what the title of the sitcom is. Search Google for "anti-catholic sitcom" ...OK, it's called "The Real O'Neals". Looks non-controversial, not going to do anything that Mom hasn't already done better (and louder). :p

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

Is it as disgraceful as the catholic church's major cover up of child sex abuse though?

Depends if the BBC show it...Sinn Fein are too busy speaking for the IRA to have time to have an opinion whether this is disgraceful.

Do you have a review of the movie that doesn't include someone who represents a cult who likes to move around pedophiles to maximize damage and get the kids to swear that they'll tell no-one?

The priest in the OP video was busy, over the course of a 2 minute clip he was part priest, part TV critic, part psychologist.

Hardly surprising given that a lot of comedy (and a lot of the best comedy) is best described as 'criticism masked as entertainment'.

Fred Savage? I love The Wonder Years. Can't ABC just show repeats of that instead? I mean don't get me wrong I love bashing religion as much as the next guy especially Catholics but that Winnie Cooper is just such a fox, those sexy tanned legs brrrrrrrrrrawr.

That's like blaming the GAA for a few players having a mass brawl

Some people dont like generic US sitcom. Not the first, not the last.

Im waiting for a certain comment to come up in this thread though.

Something about 'blasting'? We're not allowed any more.

    :(

If the GAA players were attacking people and the management tried to cover it up by sending players to other teams then sure.

    Looks Sh*te.

Doubt it will even run a full season.

Much more looking forward to the show 'Lucifer' which is pissing off evangelical moms.

You shouldn't bash anybody Darky, especially your own people. You can criticise and mock the religious but don't cross over the line and become a hate monger.

My father was an alter boy in the late 60s and a few old school friends were alter servers as youngsters and never encountered any paedophile priests.

There is no way you can say that for sure.

I've never met a person I was aware is a pedophile but it is likely I've met several.

I was one too for a year, I found it really boring but the priests were decent and always gave us a few quid each week. The Canon however had a real short fuse, you would be terrified serving with him in case you made a mistake.

That's the whole point of the thread. Sometimes I fell left out because I've nothing to be offended about. :(

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

That's why you failed Advanced Ecumenism in Maynooth, Darky. You were meant to be perving the boys not the girls.
And you were so promising at robbing the collection baskets to pay for drink.

Doesn't look great so I probably won't be watching but catholic's taking offence to it is a bit cringe worthy, just get over yourselves, it's a comedy show on ABC ffs!

Well, I've tried - Lord knows, I've tried - but I keep seeing the artisitc motives behind the damn things. I know I'm not supposed to. I know I'm supposed to be outraged and not pay the slightest bit of concern to the storyline or the acting or whatever, but I just can't stop myself.

Can you give me some advice?

If you're catholic and pretending to be offended by the airing of this show I think you need to go find a nice hobby to pass the time because all this keyboard fighting is probably stressing you out

OP, why have you decided to raise awareness of this programme most people had no idea existed prior to clicking on this thread?

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

    Big Bang fairly lampoons it
