The return of match sharpness and fitness was always going to result in the performance picking up but wow what a difference 1 player can make. It's cliche to say it but the technique of the La Masia graduate is stunning. He's so sharp, on the ball and off it, he's genuine, proven quality at the very highest level and there's no doubt that he would improve any team in the league.

In any case, glad to hear is debut going well. At Barcelona he'd often train in the full back role. As last season the only cover Barca had for Alves was Montoya who's decent and ahem, Douglas. *snigger* who's been god awful so far. (Might actually struggle to break into the Sunderland team.)

Defensive wise though his greatest attribute has always been the pressing and tactical fouling. Pedro will most often be the player to take a yellow card to break up a vulnerable counter attack. Such was his positioning though he rarely got the yellow which I felt was harsh on teams. Not that Chelsea, Barca or Spain fans would complain.
