Here's one for any fellow dirty foreigners looking for insurance. :pac:

    Gender: M

    Age: 36

Car: 2006 VW Golf 1.6l petrol

NCD: Full 5-year (based on US insurance no-claims bonus and history)

Licence: US full license, 10+ years

    Cover: Comprehensive

Premium: €807, from Liberty Insurance (only company I found who would offer a quote with a US license). They accept no-claims bonus history from insurers in the EU, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Not looking forward to renewal time, but by then I should have a full Irish license, which will make shopping around an option.

I just went from a 2009 Passat estate 2.0d bluemotion to a Peugeot 508 2.0d Allure saloon and the price per month increase was from 63 to 107 euros..... i nealry dropped to the floor. Being told this is due to the 508 being 9 classes higher in insurance groups? where can i find this information.

    Gender F
    Age 42
    NCD full 5 years protected
Full Irish license for over 10 years

    Cover = comprehensive

i think they have the 508 up at the 163 bhp and not the standard 140bhp model....

Fbd posted their 2015 results today.

    Net loss of €85 million.

Of course they must be lying as insurers are making a fortune in Ireland.

    Explained in detail here :)

85 million loss? What a massive loss. I'm sure that'll be hard to recover from.

It's pretty much "makey-uppy as you go along" in Ireland, there is no official agreed table across the industry.

There is a guidline (but not compuslory) table in the UK
    http://www.gocompare.com/insurance-groups/
    http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/insurance/car-insurance-groups/
Despite having very similar cars on sale here, there seems to be HUGE variations in what is considered "high performance" here.

Just spotted that the Court of Appeal has upheld the previous judgement holding the MIBI liable to cover the outstanding claims following the collapse of Setanta.

Basically means that the MIBI has to come up with €90,000,000 or so in order to do this.

As they are a non profit body and are funded by contributions from insurers that means another hit to the consumer.

Will it be "just" 90M they collect?
Will it have some hefty administration fees tacked on, because "hey it's not like car users can legally refuse to take out any motor policy, roysh" ?
Will the levy ever end, will it become some pre-emptive "anti (worse than usual) financial scumbaggery levy"?

Just got my renewal letter from 123.ie

    Age: 38
    Male
    Mazda 6 1.8 (2007)
    Fully Comp
Full Licence (15 years driving on my policy)
No Claims Bonus 6+ years (never claimed)
    Last year's price: €298
    Renewal Price: €370

Overall I'm not too annoyed with that renewal figure. I will shop around a bit, even though I'm not confident that many will be able to beat that. Finally I will ring 123.ie and haggle a bit, I won't lie about receiving cheaper quotes elsewhere but I will try and get a few quid off anyway.

Given your age,car engine size and fully comp insurance that is still very impressive. i've seen people on this thread with newer smaller cars and are older in age getting quoted higher prices,my own renewal quote is due in 3 weeks, might give 123 a call then

Did they add key cover to your renewal, too?

That is 19 euro saving if you cancel it :)

That's damn impressive,my car is a 1.5 and I've longer on a full license,no claims and they quoted me €110 more than that for fully comp.I found the annoying thing with 123 is they change their quotes daily, you could get a higher one the next time you contact them.I'd jump on that €370 if I was you.

Best quote: €670 with cover in a click(underwritten by Allianz)

I was with Allianz got it for €600 last year added the girlfriend who's a learner and they brought it up to €900, they were looking for €1700 this year with her or €980 without, she has her own car now so removing her anyway, I really don't understand how cover in a click can get me cheaper cover with Allianz than I can directly but I'm not complaining.
