Relieved, was expecting a big increase..

You could probably haggle to the price of last years premium.

Could get it down to 456 if I leave out Professional Fee and Legal Expenses Cover but I don't know if I want to drop these. Happy enough as it is

    Car: 08 Toyota Auris

NCB: 0 , had a cyclist hit my car recently, he got paid out for it even though it was his fault, typical...

Last year: 1500 roughly (great price for my age and no previous insurance company)

Renewal: their looking for 3500 now because of the idiot that hit my car

Ive looked around but most wont quote me, or they are quoting me the same amount

Amazing how 1 cyclist who purposely cycles into my car while I am not even moving can pretty much screw me over so much.

Professional fee for the broker themselves? I dropped legal expenses on my own renewal last year. This years is due next week. Should be fun. Hopefully i get something like your own but insurance really is a lottery of sorts.

Your vehicle was stationary, the cyclist crashed into you and your insurer paid out?

    That's very strange.

    Did you query it?

    Were you stopped at lights?

    Any independent witnesses?

Unlikely the cyclist had any insurance, so if you want your car fixed you put through a claim under your policy.

You cannot get bonus protection unless you have a minimum of 3 years bonus, even then its only step back.

Most insurers don't remove a bonus for non fault (fire or theft) claims so I'd hazard a guess that's what he means.

    Hey Guys, question on NCB

I've been driving for 10+ years in my own name with no break in policy and no claims, but my current insurer (Aviva) only recognises 5+ as max NCB and has issued me NCD statement as much.

When getting some quotes, some companies allow for up to 9 years no claims. I assume the max I can select here is 5, even though technically I have 9 years claims free driving?

    As for my quotes:

    Male
    28
    10 years full license
    NCB 5 (but see above :) )
    08 Diesel Astra Estate 1.2L

Got my renewal off Aviva, €545 up €150 (I think) with protected NCB but I have recently gotten points (3)

    New quotes:
    FBD: 839
    Aviva: 873
    Liberty: 715
    123: 978
An Post: Website wouldnt work for me
Allianz: Website was crappy and I gave up (also no software engineer job type? You can tell by their site :pac:)
BOI: wouldnt insure me (used import maybe?)

I think the question is generally phrased

"How many years claim free driving do you have?"

So you would be perfectly entitled to answer 9+.

5 is the maximum any insurer will offer, 25 years is the same as 5.

Companies that say they offer 75% discount and all that are just using a marketing gimmick, they may give 75% off but their base rates will be alot higher.

Lads, what would be the best car to get with the cheapest insurance of course for a 17 year old with full license. Was thinking of an old Nissan micra around 2000, but now hearing insurance companies wont insure older yokes?? And how much could I be looking at to get insured?? Any help greatly appreciated.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,001 ✭✭✭LawlessBoy

Newer Micra, yaris , fiesta would prob be cheaper then others. In your own name you'd prob be looking at 3000+ but only the insurance companies can give you a definite price .

I'm just gone 18, I'm insured with AIG for €2100 on a 2003 1.4 Bora, in my own name.
My other quotes were between €3550-6000

Renewal time has arrived for me.

Last years renewal AXA 550 Euro on a 1.4 Megane

    Renewal quote 1280 Euro

Car this year is a 2009 Ford Focus 1.6 Diesel

    Value 8000 Euro

    30 y/o Male with 29 y/o partner on policy

    Me 8 years full licence
    Partner 2 years learner permit.

    7 years NCB

all quotes are fully comp with all the add ons.

    AA 918
    Liberty 1665
    Britton wouldn't quote
    123.ie 1443
    McCarthy's 1520
    FBD 864
    Aviva 2061
    Chill insurance;

    Highest 3301 through Aviva
    Lowest 950 through AXA.

    Kennco wouldn't quote
    AIG 1823
    25 Plus 1218
    BoxyMo 850

Looks like I won't be renewing my insurance full stop unless there is some change in price which is unlikely.

    UPDATE:

Allianz through a broker is 783 Euro. cheapest so far but I still want to get it down more. i'd be content with anywhere between 6/700 at this stage

On a similar note...45 yr old, licence since I was 18. Zero points, zero claims, zero convictions. Driving an 05 2.0i Legacy and my insurance went up from €510 full comp last year to €770 this year! Absolutely Criminal and totally unjustifiable. I shopped around and got a quote from Allianz for €520 full comp with bonus protection windscreen etc etc

I rang the other company to tell them to shove their quote up their hole and had a callback from them offering me a policy for €530! I told them I wouldn't return to them even if they offered me the same policy for €100 as they're blatant thieves who quote people ridiculous prices in the hope they don't question them and pay up. I asked to have my number and email removed from their system as I will never ever even check for a quote with them again.
