My insurance for both my cars came down so I don't know what all the stress is about. I was worried about a second car that I own and love which is an old 98 civic coupe. My premium dropped €50 in the civic compared to last year.
    Nice!

Its reading this thread that makes me happy that I'm not in my early 20s and just starting to look for car insurance.

    Some shocking prices.

€850 must be a magic number with boxymo. I got the same quote on a 2009 ford focus 1.6 diesel with a full licence for 8 years and 7 years ncb. Where do they get the figures from.

I'd say they just have a very primitive formula for working out risk as they're relatively new and don't have a lot of data for how the tracker affects normal risk rates. That alone could be the reason all the quotes are so similar. There's probably a flat fee of xxx euro for the tracker and installation too which would tend to leave all quotes within a similar range above that number

Thanks, best quote for me too, 2nd only to 25 Plus.

    NCD: 6+ years on ncd scale ( actual : 16 years )
Licence: Full 16 years, no points or claims
Cover: Comprehensive + wife on policy (used to knock €50 or so off the price )
    Renewal Quote: €680

    I was with 123/RSA... won't be now.

Last year when I was in Lucan it was €330.
Then they added €90 for the remaining 6 months of my policy when I moved to Drogheda, so I assume there's a €180 price difference annually.
That was a surprise, that Drogheda had a higher risk than a Dublin suburb, whether that's theft or crash risk.
So my 123 renewal should've been around €510, but got renewal of €680

The last 2 years I used to apply for a new quote with 123 which was always cheaper than the renewal quote. This year that trick didn't work and they quoted €809 when I tried a new quote versus renewal.

Other quotes I got (from Sheridan broker)

    Quote 4 € 995.38 Liberty
    Quote 5 € 1303.50 AXA DriveFirst Basic

    Right so an update

    Gender: Male
    Age: 59
    Location: Clare
    Car: 2005 BMW 645ci 4.4 litre
    License: Irish 30+ years
    NCD: Full
    Cover: Fully comp etc
    Price last year: 585ish euro
    Renewal price: 1418
Quote from chill with liberty: 1293.31

Quote through a different broke which I can't remember the name of: 1100

25plus.ie: 900 (750 when you selected 10 years no claims but they wouldn't accept the 5+ years letter for this, so their loss)

Bank of Ireland: 750, 810 with the prestige one, which he went with. Full cover for everything and for the sake of step back ncd we felt it was worth the difference

So last year quote: 585~, this year 810. Not a bad increase, but it did take a good few hours of phone calls. Most others don't even warrant being written here, either no quote or insanely high because of 'performance VEHicle'
BOI wouldn't generate a quote for me.

    Gender: Male
    Age: 20
    Location: Clare
    Car: 2000 Skoda Fabia 1.4
License: Irish full license 1 year, on the road 2 years
NCD: Stage 2 with aviva, 1 year in own name 1 year named
    Cover: tpft
Price last year: 2000+ paid in a few chunks because I changed over to the full license a few months into the cover
    Renewal price: 1950ish with aviva
    Everybody else: Won't quote/ 3000+ / 2600~.
Went back and told Aviva I'd got a better quote and they brought theirs down to 1750ish

Probably going to try that again, then go with them.

annoying process but there you have it.

I went with Zurich at €415 fully comp in 2014, 2015 the best I could manage was €535 TPFT with Axa & today I've gone with BOI's 'Prestige' TPFT product at €376.00. Kinda taken aback to see such a significant decrease tbh, especially so given the industry's warning that rising claims costs would inevitably impact premiums & that several of the big insurers now refuse to quote on cars of that age.

    Very pleasantly surprised. :)

Id be fairly confident that this time next year BOI will not be offering the same type of pricing so people should get on the wagon while they can.

After querying quote with AIG this is the response I got

"I am sure you can appreciate the nature of insurance means that
companies have to pay out claims, and from time to time the margin between
these outlays and premium income becomes very strained.

It is unfortunate that your policy with AIG Direct has fallen due for
renewal during a period when we are experiencing higher than anticipated
    claims pressure.

You will note, if you review the market as a whole, that premiums
    everywhere have increased.

AIG Direct do not wish to lose custom but our premiums are dictated by a
very simple economic basis, that premiums remain higher than claims.

Our underwriters have set the premiums for this year with this goal in mind
and have decided to invite your renewal at €641.30.

Unfortunately I cannot improve on this offer.

    My Apologies"

Needless to say I won't be accepting their "invite" and have obtained a quote for 538 with Allienz

No you're wrong. I'm part of the machine whose sole aim is to get up in the morning and screw over fellow motorists by plucking quotes out of my hoop

Either that or it's a staff discount, as Saul T Nutzz suggests, similar to perks the majority of people get in their jobs

My wife's renewal came in this week.

    02 Mini One, 1600cc.

Fully comp, full NCB, no a/c/c, full NCB protection, breakdown assist etc.

Last year was about €560 with AIG through Chill.

This year Chill offered Allianz at €695 (incl a €65 admin fee, gtfo) AIG were almost €800.

Rang Allianz direct and got it for €600.

Had a chat with the personal lines manager in my job today so she is going to run up a quote for me next week.

If I can get it for the same price as last year I'd be happy, anything cheaper is a bonus.

A lot of companies wouldn't quote due to vehicle age and of those that would they were ranging from €650 to over €1000.
