    FBD last year = €650

Fully Comp, breakdown assist, No Claims protection

    This year = €1077.08

After talking with 4 agents over the phone over 30 min about why my insurance had gone up 67% with an additional year of claim/point free driving, I politely told them that I will never use them again, nor will my family.

    Great business sense there guys!

Just as I thought all the quotes were on the up, just got one cheeper than my renewal (536) and cheaper than last years (455)

    Male

    37 years old

    10 year old 1.4 Astra

    6 years driving

    5 years no claims.

BOI Quote 422, includs exsisting customer discount.

All other quotes have ranged from 520-1400. FBD advised no longer insuring cars over 12 years old, with a loading on 10 years old.

Think I will be changing insurer.

I must preface this quote in saying that I decided to look into getting a 2nd "summer" car. I was looking at a petrol 1.8T Audi A4 Cabriolet. However I need to keep my diesel 1.9 Golf for commuting, general tipping about etc. So the Audi is a purely 2nd car that I will drive at weekends.

    Glennons Insurance (underwritten by Allianz)

    Gender. Male

    Age. 36

    Licence. 15 years Full

NCB. 0 - new policy. (15 on my main car that can't be shared/transferred)

    Car. 2005 Audi A4 cabriolet

    Points. 0

Cover Required. Third party, Fire and theft

    Last year: N/A

    This year: €4561

Someone did mention that one or two companies could mirror your ncb.

4.5k for a weekend / summer car is a mad price tbh.

Was getting crazy quote and got rejected by 2 insurance companies. Couldnt figure out what was going on so, called axa to see what the story was only to discover they said I had a substantial claim last year which was not true:mad: After chasing paperwork ect. My 5years ncb was reinstated.

Delighted with that quote. Cheapest I've ever been quoted in all the years i'm driving. I gladly accepted there and then. Some of the quotes I recieved was scary though..

That's dodgy! Someone must have had a bad hangover when doing the paperwork at AXA

    Points 3 for Speeding

    Car 2005 BMW 320i

    Comprehensive

Was around €750, got it for €870 initially but then had to pay an extra €112 penalty

Last year her policy was around €750 with Chill/AIG. I was a named driver and at the time had a provisional licence..... I now have a full Irish one. She was getting insane quotes up to €1900, some places such as FBD refused to even quote. In the end chill cane down from over €1000+ for a renewal to around €870.

However the agent on the phone asked whether I was employed.... and having been made redundant last month I'm not. As a result of that they charged an extra €112.... even though she uses the car for commuting to work so it'd not like I'd be out in it every day.

What's their justification for that? I'm assuming it's legal bit it seems terribly unfair and discriminatory.

Have a driving test soon but was told by AXA 1,411 with that. Last year my premium was €900
This seems mad to increase a policy over 200%

Statistically speaking people that are unemployed are more likely to claim.

Its unfair her policy being loades given you are only a named driver though.

€120 increase on last year. A good bit lower than I was expecting compared to some of the horror stories in this thread.

I've sold my car so it's not relevant anyway.

my insurance is up soon and ive been getting ridiculous quotes online. my insurance last year was about 500ish (cant remember exactly). been quoted 1300 online. now i know there is an expected increase, but it seems too much. i will ring around when my broker sends me the letter with their offer for this year.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,881 ✭✭✭shietpilot

I'd be happy with that myself.

My insurance history has been something like:
    €1300
    €1501

Quotes online now are close to €2000 but I reckon I'd get away with €1800~ on a bare minimum policy with an excess close to a grand  Funny that I was most dangerous on the road with my cheapest policy, driving like a mongrel at times.

I started driving in 2000 as an 18yo in a 1.4 and had not choice to but pay IR£3,885.85 which the CSO tells me is the inflated equivalent of €6,509. The only other quote I could get was almost double.
