More than likely the car is low risk . Some car models are loaded more by certain insurance companies depending on what they have on the books.

Best new price: €734 - FBD

Best value: €817.26 - Allianz <- went with these guys cos the cover they offer with fully comp, full NCB protection, break-down cover, unlimited windscreen cover at price they offer is decent.

123.ie were not willing to move on price at all so i left them and agent couldnt understand why, asked me if i wanted to make complaints however i refused as it would not result in revised cost of insurance. I know at least 9 folks at work who left them and my sister also left them and also 3 of my friends. thats 13 people have left 123.ie due to their horrible price increases.

Make sure the single protected bonus cover also has the perk that fire & theft claims are seperate dealt with no excess
(Some companies actually use up the protected bonus cover for a theft claim !!)

Here's a list of every company legally allowed sell insurance in Ireland.

    http://www.mibi.ie/_fileupload/Member%20list/3%20MIBI%20Members%20List%20-%20July%202016.pdf

Maybe check and make sure whoever you end up going with isin't registered in Jersey or the like.

Theirs an online list out on the main menu page aswell, here it is. But you'll always get cheaper on the phone I find.

Both mine and my wife's insurance is up in the next few days.

    Me:
    34. 16 years claims free driving. Full licence 16 years. No penalty points.
2013 Ford Mondeo 140 TDCI Aviva renewal €555. Last year €499. Fully comp with NCD protection.
    Wife:
    36. 8 years claims free driving. Full license 8 years. No penalty points.
2005 Toyota Corolla 1.4 petrol Aviva renewal €436. Last year €385. Fully comp with NCD protection.

Named driver on each other's policies.

I got a lot of quotes over the last few days but got nowhere near Avivas quotes but rang Aviva today and haggled a bit anyway and got mine for €550 and my wife's for €382. Not too bad overall with some of the mad quotes I've seen here.

I've previously heard about drivers getting insurance from European companies and it working out cheaper. Does anyone know more about this?

I am confused about date of issue of driving l
licence and its effecting my insurance.

I was holding EU driving licence and changed to Irish licence in 2014 which is the issue date on front now. However on the back of licence its showing the 2011 which is original date when I first got my licence in another EU country.

My insurance quote from Kennco is:
1300e if I write 2 years holding current licence and
1100e if I write 5 years holding current licence.

    Male 29y
    1.6 Petrol 2006
    2 years NCB
    No penalty

Legally which is the right date to submit?
    Thanks

The category start date on the back is the one that matters for insurance purposes. It's when you earned the full licence entitlement for the category so reflects your experience.

In the same way if you had passed the full motorcycle test in 2008, the A start date would be 2008, the B start date would be 2011 but in any case the licence itself would be issued for 10 years from 2014 to 2024. Hypothetically, if you passed the truck test today, you'd then have A-2008, B-2011, C-2016 but the C category would have a five year expiry so on the back, the C start date would be 2016 and the C category expiry date would be 2021; five years from now as you can't get a medical cert for longer than 5 years for truck categories but the new licence would be issued from 2016 to 2026.

I know that in many EU countries, you get a licence for life making the category start dates redundant sometimes but in your case, rest assured 2011 is the date they are concerned about. Insurance companies won't care when your card was issued in Ireland.
