Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    I just did run a quote through AXA, because their quotation is the fastest one...

    34 YO Polisher, Driving a 2012 Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI, Living in Cork, a very recent claim in 2017 for €9800.

    With 6 years NCB - 1,107.03
    With 3 years NCB - 1,503.70
    With 0 years NCB - 4,082.05

    NCB DOES MATTER, even for a new policy.

    That is not my experience with my claim.

    No. My renewal with my current company is €564. Someone was saying up thread that having no ncb protection was nearly as irresponsible as having no insurance and I was pointing out that ncb protection is hardly worth the paper it's written on as you still have to disclose the claim if changing company and many won't even give a quote (as happened ime) if you have had a claim, even if your ncb is still intact (which mine is as I had full ncb protection, not step back). Ncb protection is really only good for your own company and even then it's not always worth it.

    What made you think that one of your insurer's competitors would amend their rating structure and acceptance terms because you gave your insurer extra money for bonus protection?

    I always buy NCB protection myself for the same reason but I was under impression that it will certainly be protected by the company you are with(higher premium minus NCB discount) and others may or may not accept it as it is.

    At the end of your policy you get a certificate how much NCB you have earned. The certificates states how many percents of discount you have, how many years of claims free driving is needed to earn it and how many years claims free you have on that particular policy (which resets if you switch between companies).

    When getting a quote you put how much discount you have (how many years this corresponds to) and disclose any claim you had in the last (typically) 5 years. If in doubt you can always ask for clarification, but that's how this usually works.

    Nope, her insurance has to be at the market price. I get a good deal for mine, being in the business, but it is strictly staff only. There is no gravy train for insurance staff, contrary to popular opinion here.

    My wife gets 50% off even though staff spouse discount should only apply for people with 10 years service. She paid €320 this year for a 161 golf TSI with an open (non fault) claim

    So time to renew coming up at end of month.

    Currently sitting at €626, for 161 Golf 1.6 TDi. (previous year was €382, shocking!).

    Did some searching tonight, all these prices are for me and OH, neither of us has any claims, accidents, driving 15 & 22 years, etc. Basically less risky customers, you'd think.

    Quotes so far:

    Existing broker €729 (think thats with RSA)
    Chill €726
    Bank of Ireland €848 or €932
    123 €644
    AXA €653
    Allianz €468

    Fair play Allianz, not taking the p1ss, think you'll be getting my business this year.

    I heard few people saying insurance prices going down a bit, just checked with axa again and they are giving me 2500 euro for the same car model. Must be true that the prices going down, a bit. Anyone else noticed this?

    Best quote: €599 through a local broker with a company called ignite. Could have got it slightly cheaper but the policy was worse, higher excess + step back only. That's with herself on the policy too.

    Plesently surprised given it was €720 last year, although my insurer last year quoted me €1870 renewal. Brokers were grand price wise, the bigger companies (axa aviva ect) wanted either a ransom or wouldnt quote.

    Got renewal though in the post of €2200 with a local broker (Octane is the company). Phoned around a few places much the same €1680 was the ballpark, as low as €1430 but it was 3rd party F&T and stepback only. and as high as €3600 via liberty, which at the end of the conversation when i said it was very expensive the lady laughed while saying you drive a subaru impreza that is 15+ years old what di you expect!

    I then went online quickquote frim chill was again ballpark figure 1700 so didn't proceed with the full quote, my phone rang and the fella from Chill was talking about not a full quote online, I assumed it was a sales pitch, but alas a company only use chill and only insure drivers 30+, full no claims and specific cars for €836, i nearly bite his hand off. Kevin who phoned me was lovely too which was a pleasant surprise.

    So, time has come for the renewal:

    37 y.o, male, software engineer;
    2006 Alfa 159 1.9 JTS (Petrol, 160hp);
    Full EU (Italian) License for 18 years;
    5 years NCB;
    No claims/points ever (didn't have a car for a few years, hence the NCB of only 5 years);

    Renewal from Allianz through the AA came in at 943.80, about the same as last year.

    Checking around:

    Liberty 2894.16
    Chill (Ivernia) 961.00
    Allianz (basic) 916.29
    Blue Insurance 1088.69 (TPFT)
    Its4Women 2171.55

    At least it's not a crazy hike (went 545->700->950 in the last three years);

    I don't know how you managed to get it so cheap. How many years NCB do she have?

    She has 9+ and I've got 6+. Didn't think it was cheap just based on last years. I've found 123 to be the most competitive of all the companies. Have my parents with them, and my sister went with them the other day.

    So, time has come for the renewal:

    37 y.o, male, software engineer;
    2006 Alfa 159 1.9 JTS (Petrol, 160hp);
    Full EU (Italian) License for 18 years;
    5 years NCB;
    No claims/points ever (didn't have a car for a few years, hence the NCB of only 5 years);

    Renewal from Allianz through the AA came in at 943.80, about the same as last year.

    Checking around:

    Liberty 2894.16
    Chill (Ivernia) 961.00
    Allianz (basic) 916.29
    Blue Insurance 1088.69 (TPFT)
    Its4Women 2171.55

    At least it's not a crazy hike (went 545->700->950 in the last three years);

    I honestly think that Italian license is costing you a couple of 100
    1 EU my arse.

    More than that - I've run quotes with "Full Irish" and some (don't remember the companies, but was through mig.ie) came out around the 560 marker - even with the "country of issue" for the license being Italy; The mysterious power of a piece of plastic making you "less of a risk" for undisclosed reasons. Surely it won't have anything to do with the relatively high number of EU license holders driving in the country, can't be...:mad:
