Looks like FBD thought: last year you didnt "get" the message, lets try a bit harder now to let you know we dont want your money anymore.

Last years experience in mind where i ended up with paying Bank of Ireland €369 when the next cheapest was 450 while all other quotes i got were in the 7/800 area. Some even over €1000 (male, ancient, 2003 1.6L car, 6 year NCB, 30 years driving, no penalty points

Try BoI, certainly if you bank there already.
Another thing i like was just a monthly DD with no extra costs. All the others give you a "deduction" when you pay in full in 1 go.

    Your Age: 28
Car type and engine: 00 Opel Astra Sport 1.4L
    years driving: 5
    any claims: 0
    Price and provider: €1600 Allianz

On a provisional which I clearly want to get sorted this year by getting a full license. The policy I'm getting (via Quoteme.ie) is actually excellent, its fully comp with loads of addons and stuff. But it did go up €300 which was infuriating.

I'm also massively struggling with the age of the car, as the broker pointed out many insurers refused a quote. I seem locked into Allianz and they well know it, just jacking me up each year for no good reason.

Will look to get my full license as a start this year, and then probably change out the car when finances allow

Will update as I get more.

It could well bring it down.

My GF is on my policy and even though she did initially drive she has since stopped.

Left her on the policy as it has been more expensive to remove her.

Car 04 Avensis 2.0D, no points/claims. Age 50+. Mileage approx 20K per year. Cover is Comp, renewal does not include protected NCD.

My wife's insurance has gone from €369 last year to €491 renewal quote this year; 33% increase. Renewal is with AXA. Car is 99 Yaris 1.0, no points/claims. Mileage approx 6K.

If nothing changed in circumstance since last year then 369 plus 20% is lowest you'll get...
Yes, was expecting around that level of increase, but not 91%, or even 33%

In 2015 it was €540 with AIG through the broker, then in 2016 it was €815.
Does anyone have any recommendations regarding an insurer that will take new quotes on cars over 15 years? I don't think Bank of Ireland, 123 or FBD will even quote...

Try adding your parents. I did that and it was brought down substantially. I've just chanced its4women.ie, and got the following:

33, Male, 04 1.5 Almera, 9 years NCB, 9 years full licence, no claims/convictions, 3 points i only just got (even though they don'#t look for points in the online...), €558 Fully comp including NCB Protection. Amazing cover for the price really, considering most other companies were quoting €850+. Just need to get that 25% deposit and i'm a very happy camper.

So, everyone, try its4women.ie!!! (Still going to continue with my complaint over Liberty)

Be very careful. The site doesn't ask for penalty points but you are required to tell them about them. When you get the quote you accept a bunch of statements linked in the quotation page.

    Inside it says:
If in our reasonable view you have committed a fraud, including if you have made a false declaration, we may cancel your policy at any time or declare it void from inception. We are entitled to withhold your premium and/or recover from you any amounts paid under this policy for a claim. Examples of false declarations include

If you fail to declare all driving offences, fixed penalties or other forms of driving related convictions in the past 5 years and all pending convictions that you or any other driver(s) named on the policy had.

Just tried it's4 women and 655 for comprehensive and 710 for comp xtra my renewal is 677 with boi.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,043 ✭✭✭Jacovs

Started out with a 03 Micra in january 2014, male 27.
9 years driving but 0 NCB.
    Around 900 with Axa.
Was told the next year it would og down because I would have a NCB.

January 2015 comes, renewal is 1000ish with the 1 year NCB.

January 2016 comes, renewal is 1100ish with 2 years NCB.
Ask them what else can I do to bring it down. Was told because its an old car, approaching the 15 years.

January 2017, renewal is 1250 with 3 years NCB and im now 30 years old.
Micra though is traded in for a 171 Note 1.2.
Axa was gracious enough to not charge me to switch policy over to new car for the remaining 2 weeks on the policy, but the renewal would go up to 1650.

Online quotes thus far for full comp:
    123.ie - 1685
    FBD - 1480
    Liberty - 1095

That is a mighty quote given what is going on in the sector.
i'm 7 years older and I currently pay 30e more on a Focus.

Always look around but remember cheapest isn't always best.
Look at what is included in the policy for your money.

    Has it Windscreen cover?
    Breakdown assist?
I don't think protected ncb is an option for you at this stage with only 2 years, i could be wrong.

Just rang them to see what was included, I have driving of other cars, break down assist and windscreen cover all included. I don't think i'll do better than that?
The only big difference is that I will be changing from AXA to liberty

This is a real funny thread, so my two cents.
    Volvo S80 2.0T petrol (2016, already paid) 4.600€
    Liberty Insurance
I changed it. Now it's a Mercedes Benz CLK 200. Quote for Feb 2017: 2775€
44 years old. Holding an EU driver license for 26 years. No claims, penalty points, etc.

You paid €4,600 to insure a 2.0T volvo!
Do you have max no claims ?

Yes. Foreign EU driver. You can pay 4600 or you don't get insured. I remember that I looked at a Yaris premium and it was 3900. It's a sad joke.
For this year (one year no claim) premium starts on February and Liberty quoted me 2775. Any other company refuses to insure me.

I forgot this. Most funny thing ever. I drove 5200 km on my car. So I paid ~1€/km :)
