Aren't its4women legally obliged to quote men? Their targeted marketing towards women is an advertising tool but refusing insurance based on sex is illegal.

He didn't say he was refused a quote because he was male. It could be a number of reasons

Being quoted €1,300 for fully comp then €670 for third party. Insurance premium high as I spent a number of years out of Ireland.

For the first time ever I'm seriously think of getting third party insurance. That's a crazy difference.

What car, and what's your driving experience.

There was a broker called Caoga (not sure if they are still are there) who marketed themselves as "specialising in insurance for the over 50's" back in the day. I rang them when I was around 20 looking for a quote but was told in no uncertain terms they only provided cover to the over 50's - I should have known better than to ring them was the sort of attitude...

Getting decent quotes from KennCo (anyone heard of them?) at €1,100 for early 30's driver away from Ireland for 7 years but have 2 years named driver experience under parents name.

All other quotes are over €2,000!

The only reasonable quotes I've had have been from KennCo (e680) or Whoops.ie (720).

Pretty sure i had them 1 year via Chill for a reasonable price.
Next year they nearly tripled the quote without me having any claims or penalty points added.
They couldnt have been more clear they didnt want my money anymore if they had told me to go ***8 myself :D

Yeah, I've heard of them. They consistently refuse to quote me.

    Your Age: 21
Car type and engine: 1.4L Mk5 Golf
Years driving: 9 months named driver experience (have full licence one week so far)
    Any claims: N/A
Price and provider: Majority of insurers are around the €3,500-4,000 range, with Boxymo being less than half that.

Not sure what to do at this stage. Don't really want to be tracked for every mile I do and to have a limit on how far I can drive. Maybe just bite the bullet and pay the high premium just for the year and hopefully a renewal is a lot cheaper... Currently on a 1.2L Punto for €1,200 including my mother (€920 for me).

Try Liberty with one of your parents as a named driver and see if the cost comes down

The government get a cut from every policy.

The higher the premium the more they get.

But also with rising prices and the increase in uninsured drivers they are probably losing more than what they are getting as a result.

They have their Merc's and perks so why would they care anyway.

Bearing in mind all pretty much all the insurance companies operating on these shores are foreign. The only Irish owned insurance company at this stage is FBD and if I were a betting man I'd hazard a guess that they have a sizeable foreign interest at this stage.

Don't assume we are unique with high motor insurance premiums though. Our neighbours across the pond in Blighty have the same problem and have had for many years . Motor insurance premiums are arguably higher over there.

Agreed thought the Government need to be doing more and in particular tackling fraudulent personal injury claims and even the size of pay outs for genuine ones. Think what we've got so far has being sound bites for the most part.

After lots of searching I got a 'good' deal with KennCo.

Was quoted €1,165 online but got it for €920 over the phone. All other quotes were €1,300 and above. Some crazy ones over €2,000 too. 30's two years named driver experience, away from Ireland the past number of years.

KennCo must be the cheapest in the country right now.

Lowest quote has gone from 500 to 800 in two years despite 7 years no claims, should be going down not up, daylight robbery from these firms the government needs to step in.

If you have a claim your insurance goes up when you lose your NCB and if you have a fully protected NCB they will tell you the premium has gone up. Can't win either way

the second one is for damage to hire car i didnt cause but they took off my insurance and still billed me for damage? doesnt make sense

and the first one is the tow and hire car of 300 euro

i lost on first claim they said because i had step back but wasn't insured for a full year thats how i lost it both says settled and both are less than 500 euro

That doesn't make sense. A claim for towing and car hire can only be made if you have damage to your vehicle that you are also claiming for. If the matter was restricted to your breakdown assistance, that is an add on service and not treated as an insurance claim

The hire care is even more confusing. You say there was damage, but didn't cause it. Had you temporarily added it to your policy?

my car was a write off so i needed a tow and was given a hire car. i dont understand them charging me as they said it was my excess and then for the hire car and tow. The hire car was added to my policy yes

Biggest scam going. Basically handcuffs you for 5 years.

Yep I learnt that the hard way !!! My work mate was in an accident also and other party caused the crash and was 100% responsible for accident . My mate got advise from his insurance if he claimed off them they would then counter claim off other insurance company . Fatal mistake

He was also a named driver on a separate policy with his Mrs and was with same insurance company on her renewal he wasn't allowed be a names driver and his own policy went up from then on in also and no other company would touch him for near 5 years ...

Our insurance is up next month - going to spend tomorrow ringing around (dreading it based on quotes i see here!). I have four questions to ask :

    - We were in an accident last year, other company paid out, not our fault - the accepted liability. Do we need to mention this when ringing for quotes? Will it affect quotes?

-The car is under my boyfriends name but its our car - he then has to be the insured person with me as a named driver. Should i chase up driving experience i had on my own car from my previous insurer? i havent had my own car for about 6 years as i was living abroad.

-Is it of any relevance to mention that i have a full motorbike licence when ringing around? my logic being that it might make me/us look more insurable and less of a liability?

-I sometimes drive for work, maybe once a month limerick to galway and thats it. I get paid mileage but dont carry goods/delivery anything, its just for a meeting. I have to get my employer indemnified. I wonder should i mention this when getting the quote or leave it until i need to drive for work and call the company about it and see if they can change it. My logic being it was 50e to add it to our last policy but i wonder if i say it when looking for the quote it will make it shoot up?!

No bike license won't change anything and they will think you're mad for saying.

Yes you must disclose any previous accident at fault or not.

You also must disclose any modifications on car and points or conviction's if any.
