I'm almost certain that the lowest temperature recorded in Ireland since Dec 2010 was in April of 2013.

    March* 2013

Nah id say mt is spot on

After dec 24 the frosts will be more prevalent

Then prob next year jan and feb will be cold and of course may june july and august

The last time I had a pleasant May was way back in 2010 - jesus, didn't see that until now... I bet Summer 2016 will be like Summer 1995! Summer 1994 was crap and very cold and so was this Summer! Winter 1994/95 was crap, windy and exceptionally wet. This Winter so far is exactly like that!

In June for my weather station, I had 4 days with a mean temperature of 9.8C or lower. 2014 it was 1. 2013 it was 1 also.
So far this December, I had 4 days with a mean temperature above 9.8C. 2014 it was 3. 2013 it was 1.

December means for my location at 220m asl
    2011 5.3C
    2012 5.2c
    2013 5.9C
    2014 5.1C
2015 7.5C so far and that will rise in the short term at least.

It is exceptional how mild the weather is. Currently close to 5C above the mean.

Indeed - this month is heading towards being as much above average as December 2010 was below average.

My comparisons with this December among recent years in terms of mean temperature:

    2008: 1.4c (-2.7c below the LTA)
    2009: 1.2c (-2.9c below the LTA)
    2010: -2.2c (-6.3c below the LTA)
    2011: 5.8c (+1.7c above the LTA)
    2012: 3.9c (-0.2c below the LTA)
    2013: 6.3c (+2.2c above the LTA)
    2014: 4.5c (+0.4c above the LTA)
    2015: 7.6c (+3.5c above the LTA)

Range of difference from 2010 & 2015's mean temperatures comes to:

    7.6c + 2.2c = 9.8c > 2015 is +9.8c warmer than 2010.

Was in and out to the shed tonight for decorations, didn't even feel the need for a jacket but there was swarms and swarms of flies and daddy longlegs around the lights and windows. Surely them being out isn't normal for December?! Currently 12 C here. Coming up to 2am, 5 days away from winter solstice!!

Its amazing how often we get such warm air masses at this time of year. I don't have stats to hand but they always seem much more common at this time of year compared to what passes for "summer" months in this country.

I dunno how we manage it but we manage to swap around warm weather for winter and cold weather for summer nearly every single year.

Let's see about that, I'll start from 2006:

    2006
Winter (2005 / 06): Mild, dry and relatively dull in places.
Summer: Very warm, dry and sunny.

    2007
Winter (2006 / 07): Very mild and wet but sunny in parts.
Summer: Cool, very wet and relatively sunny.

    2008
Winter (2007 / 08): Very mild, relatively wet and sunny.
Summer: Mild, very wet and dull.

    2009
Winter (2008 / 09): Cold, dry (in most places) and sunny.
Summer: Very wet but sunny and mild (still coolest Summer for many years).

    2010
Winter (2009 / 10): Extremely cold, dry and sunny.
Summer: Very sunny, dry (in most places) and mild.

    2011
Winter (2010 / 11): Very cold, dry and sunny.
Summer: Exceptionally cold, dry (in parts) and dull.

    2012
Winter (2011 / 12): Very mild, dry in parts but very dull.
Summer: Extremely wet, cool and dull.

    2013
Winter (2012 / 13): Cool, dry and dull in places.
Summer: Very warm, sunny and dry.

    2014
Winter (2013 / 14): Wettest Winter on record. Mainly sunny and mild.
Summer: Warm, dry in parts and sunny. August was the big exception for dry and warmth.

    2015
Winter (2014 / 15): Cool, dry in parts and very sunny.
Summer: Wet, very cold and dull.

    Mmmm....

From a farming point of view, I notice that its always relatively dry from April to June when we need the rain. Then it pisses rain for the rest of the year when we dont need it!

I know we've had some good summers and winters but mostly it's crap! I can only remember about 4 good winters since 1992! not really good going. 1991, 2000, 2009,2010 brought us plenty of snow. I think Dublin had alot of snow around 1996 but we missed out on that at my location. In the 80s we had great snow almost every winter! We had some great summers in the early 90s, then 1995 was exceptional, then a run of really poor summers after that. 2006 was decent then those awfull summers till about 2013.

I know it's off topic but why does people keep saying 2010 was a bad Summer?

Christmas week continues to look wet and windy. Maybe very wet/very windy at times, but too soon for detail.

As you said it's too early yet, but are there any signs of a major storm for Christmas week??

I dont have anything official to look at but all I remember from 2007 to 2012 inclusive is wet summer after wet summer! thankfully 2013 brought a great summer and 2014 and even 2015 were quite good in this location. 2015 has been a dry year here with the exception of the past 6 weeks which has been awful.

Because 2010 was a wet summer and lord Jaysus whilst it might have been ok for some summer 2015 was rubbish for the rest of us. Being honest temperatures wise there's very little between summer and winter 2015.

I was cleaning up a garden today and the lobelia was flowering and snow drops were emerging.

I've been gardening since 1994 and never seen anything like it.

Wasn't 1947 similar with lots of rain and very mild temperature's....

Are u talkin' about Winter 1947-48? If Winter 1946-47, definitely not....

The summer was good for agriculture but it was temperature wise - mid to high teens into the low 20s. Nothing exceptional.
The winter so far who knows what is to come, long time till the end of March.

BBC forecast from this day five years ago - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bG0t7I8tCE

Turned off the heat last night, it was positively balmy.

Indoor soccer was tough last night with the heat and humidity.
It's not heated, so in winter it would normally be an extra layer and dry throats.
Last night, one of the lads was covered in sweat after 20 minutes.
