Windy for a time ahead of the cold front on Fri before the rain arrives. Should make a good Sat pic being so clearly defined .

It depicts an intense storm making a direct hit on Ireland with a very low central pressure and a very tight gradient. There would be severe gusts well inland, that would normally only be experienced on our coastline. Anyway it won't happen.

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,162 ✭✭✭✭JCX BXC

The gusts on the coasts would be devastating.
I would probably retreat Inland if I seen that chart a few days out.

Blessedly quiet morning up here South Kerry mountains 400 asl... Mostly dry too and a welcome break from gales and deluges...Long may it last..

Not a chance I'd be hanging around the Mayo coast for that. We could have a West coast weather forum meet up inland :)

I'm sure most of that list would be heading for the coast.
A meet up at squarecircles house on the Mayo coast so as he's in an ideal location for a major wind event.

It's a typical Feb day here outside Newport. A thick mist is covering since early this morn and not a breeze in sight. Birds are fairly belting out the tunes however so that's always nice.

Having a ball here! Even set some broad bean seed in trays indoor and washing well on the way to drying.. But clouds are dark and heavy and dramatic...saw a farmer nearby approaching with slurry but he has vanished , ; I think the ground is far too soft still. Have to work with not against prevailing conditions and just seen a gale warning for tomorrow..

Nothing exciting happens in Ireland regarding weather. We are so boring as watching paint dry

This morning felt the mildest of the Winter so far with little or no wind and a temp of 13c. We have had higher temps previously but these were somewhat offset by breezy conditions.

That, and the amount of users online, or rather lack of, tells me all i need to know without opening up any of the winter threads.
I think the way its going gardeners and farmers in Ireland are going to be cursing this spring.

Worries me re the slurry season and even more the gorse burning which "should" be well under way now. Heaven forbid a repeat of the terrible illegal fires of last year. I have such memories of going to the door in the small hours and seeing fire in almost every direction and the loss of bird and critter life, and our beloved National Park afire. And at night, the patrol vehicles along the far road with searchlights going back and forth.

Busy days when we can get out and dry washing etc! I am abed and not well enough to do more but so lovely to have this respite.
