great to see the passion lads.

I'm a bit of a geek myself when it comes to this kind of stuff and had worked out a few numbers. Thought I stuck this up before, but I can't see it!

    Minimum requirements to win GOTY

Must Win: Fix, paulos, Golfgraffix, doublecross, tigerwood, recycled.
    At least 3rd: charlieIRL
    At least 5th: Keano, 3putt
    At least 7th: Roadrunner
I could theoretically win by finishing last! (but I think that is unlikely ie, I will need more points)

Nobody else can possibly win GOTY

My game has gone off the boil a bit of late so to be honest, I don't see a big score in Fota for me. I will take a top 10 and see how it pans out from there

I fancy dwd to move up into a jug spot, I think Golfgraffix has to be favourite for the win, playing well and obviously knows the course. Other than that, I have no idea how it's gonna pan out!!!!

That peak I was hoping for came too early.

Lowest ever round in competition (72) and a hole in 1.

I'd say I'll be useless next week.

Anyway - a story to tell on night out.

I could have also lost a shot for next week too (will inform if have)

By the way hope no one else has drifted > 2 on GUI :P:D

She may let me have a pint tonight.

We could go for 28/29/30/31 September if it suits people?

was an option to see if anyone was interested for that week

actually preference would be for the Monday(Glen) & Tuesday(Heath - Open comp there also that day) and am also looking to play Luttrelstown open on the Wednesday, it's only €30 if anyone fancies that either/also?

    Great idea .

In theory I'd agree however Boards outings are long days 4.5 hours minimum, and most of us have to go to work on Monday ! Lol

I'm only joking , it would be a form of torture with numerous events of finger pointing, 1, shank 2, bunker 3, tree bounce 4, water 5 , wrong drop 6/7 , green - brilliant 1 putt -

    "I think it was 8"
    "are you sure"
"Put me down for a scratch"
    "I can't"
    "what"
    "It is strokes"
    "how do strokes work"
"ok I'll put you down for an 8"
    "What time is sunset"
    "gets dark early these days"
"It is ok - there is a light on my gps"

"Was that a monkey I just heard"

Only a few days to go. I guess you have all been practising hard. Anyway, I'm sure you have all figured it out by now, but here is the timesheet for Saturday. Please make sure you are in plenty of time.

We will be playing off the White Tees. LD will be on the 16th as recommended by Fota. They also recommend NP to be on the 13th. I had the 11th in my head as it's shorter, but 13th is a bit downhill from recollection, any thoughts?

There will be an area reserved for us after to have a bit of food and do prizes etc. so it would be great if you can all hang around for that. My guess is that most of you will as we are heading out in town afterwards........

Looking forward to this big time!!

Quick one - the practice facilities, anybody know can you just go up and use the range / putting green etc or are they reserved for academy members?

In the age old tradition of the society - I can only follow above post with.

When are the tee times going up and have you got the results yet ?

Joking aside lads - hopefully the leaders drag each other down and winner will come from further back.

We are in a great spot to see everything going on. Who is going to look up weather first ?

I'm a bit of an old traditionalist and believe scores should be kept secret until the big unveil! I'd also rather not know what kind of scores other guys are shooting.... But hey, times change and all that.

Just don't like knowing, prefer the surprise!

Actually when you did it in PGA for captains couple of years ago I stayed away from the scores. I had no idea I had won until my name was called out, I didn't think I had done enough and it made it all the sweeter than knowing the scores and waiting for my name to be called!

194 yrds off the whites, will be a good test for NP.

11, at 156 yrds might be a fairer test alright Seve, but hey, its Captains Day, so we should be getting tested

I've already paid for the hotel out of my own pocket. As it is within the week, we also have to pay full price for the green fee @ fota whether you play or not. I've said this enough times both on threads and at outings.

Unless someone else fills your place, you will have to cough up.

Well that don't seem right Seve, no way you should be out of pocket either way, something to be looked at for sure imo.

Just having a look at he scorecard for the course and noted this :-

    IMMOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS

A ball lying within one club length of fixed markers, course furniture, steps, gravel pathways, service roads, sprinkler heads, manhole covers, hydrant boxes, drainage grates, gravel drains, telephone poles and guy wires. Ball may be dropped within one club length of the nearest point of relief not nearer the hole without penalty.

Is this 'within one club length' of the immovable obstruction a local rule or is this the norm? I always thought your play had to be impeded by the immovable obstruction before relief could be sought ?

    ****

FYI there's also relief from the wall on crossing the 6th fairway

RELIEF A ball coming to rest within two club lengths of the wall while playing the 6th hole that lies within that section of wall defined by orange stakes may be lifted and dropped not nearer the hole on a line from the pin directly back from where the ball had originally come to rest without penalty.

Immovable obstruction has to interfere with either your stance or your swing in order to claim relief.Within one club length imo would not of itself impinge upon this rule as there would be every chance your swing or stance would be interfered with in that distance, the purpose of which is obviously to protect the immovable obstruction and/or the golfer and their equipment. Therefore even if it is a local rule it doesnt impede upon a rule of golf and is perfectly valid.
Of course a club length can vary depending upon whether you use a sand wedge or a driver to measure but hey thats called using the rules to your advantage.
However, Rule 24-2 specifically states line of play is of itself not interference so it is down to the player and his opponent whether relief can be taken or not-be plenty of cases where you might have to play back or even sideways rather than forward because of an immovable obstruction.

The second part is definitely imo a breach of a Rule of Golf in that in order to protect a structure..the wall..you may take relief when the ball rests within 2 club lengths of the wall, I fail to see how being within 2 club lengths of anything can interfere with either your stance or your swing.
It should be noted that the local rules state MAY instead of MUST therefore the choice is with the golfer.. which would most people do I wonder?

The wall is not big from memory (maybe a couple of feet tall) , but it runs right across the middle of the fairway.

I can't remember does the fairway drop down or jump up after the wall. If it jumps up, well then if you are within 2 club lengths, you have a good chance of hitting the wall with your shot. It doesn't mention that it could interfere with either your stance or swing..... ball flight though could be the reason

My memory from walking around at the Irish Open last year was, wow, that's a bit weird and unfair! So makes sense that there is a local rule to deal with it.

Edit: Actually I might be thinking of the 5th!!
