They use 767 on EDI/GLA/MAN and others occasionally and they could also use larger aircraft inc. 777 should schedules permit.

    767s are going though.

Anyway Aer Lingus are looking at using their A330's to fly to London, Paris, Rome and Madrid I'm led to believe in the early morning to combine flights and increase capacity. They intend having the 2nd flights to JFK,BOS,ORD later in the evening to provide this ability.

Unlikely to be operationally possible, as you are going to have to delayed the 11.00 departures and delayed the 16.00 departures.

EI are going to have to expand there fleet to increase short haul capacity and while they have taken some steps to address the deplorable OTP on some routes for this coming summer it's not enough.

Will the A330's be doing the DUB - AGP route in 2016?

Cheers Jamie2k9, I flew on the 330 in the past to AGP, have used FR for the last few years now. But it might be a nice treat to pay the bit extra to use the new toys at the pointy end :)

Lots of dates where the big toy is cheaper or only €7 more next summer with the EI sale!

Yes this seems to be a big problem especially in the summer, mind you it's not an EI problem, I think any airline operating out of big airports, that are pushed to limits during summer season have serious OTP issues ! In my experience airport congestion and ATC slots are the main cause of the abysmal OTP experienced during the summer

I dont think China will be likely considering their economy is tanking and it is quite expensive for Europeans compared to 3/4 years ago. There isnt even great connection flights in mainland China compared to Singapore or HK

I remember some murmurings here on A&A regarding some possible India routes (?)

I'm wondering if this might come to pass with an Indian operator. If it were Air India, a direct route between Dublin and Delhi would allow for onward connections with that airline to Australia (at roughly the half-way point), as well as Shanghai, Tokyo, Seoul, Bangkok, and a whole load of Indian cities.

Indira Gandhi Airport in Delhi also appears to be winning some awards too. I'm wondering if it is a good place to transfer, compared to say Dubai?

Ryanair have cancelled the Dublin-Alghero route for summer 2016 (along with several other routes from Alghero).

OP / Mods - Might be worth updating the opening post list for routes cancelled as well.

What routes are you expecting to be announced during the year?

dear god YES! this route trumps any for me... What would they be looking at June to September a few 3-5 times weekly?

Please say year round.... we go January or October (looking to go October 2017 actually...) so this would be excellent news!

I would only go mid March (roughly when the pools open and the weather hits mid to high twenties) until October ish. Generally I go August to September though. Personally if I am going to vegas, I want to get the weather and pools out of it too :)

Trump Casino is in Atlantic City rather than Vegas.

I develop Superior Solitaire when I'm not procrastinating on boards.ie.

Nothing firm yet just that it is one of the routes that Aer Lingus want to start in 2017.

Another is Beijing. Most likely another east coast route as ASL have their eyes on another 757. new one in Shannon is getting winglets and new RR engines.

Seriously? Is there enough of a market for point-to-point services?

China is a major trading partner despite the recent downturn in their economy.
It was fiercely argued before that a Knock-Beijing route was viable (Wonder where that is hmm), so DUB is nearly guaranteed to have a massive market for that route.

Jokes aside, there's alot of Chinese citizens here and lots of trading done with China, so a route would probably be viable.

By Our Lady herself no doubt.

I would think a Chinese destination is viable at Dublin but to be honest, I think a Chinese airline would be able to make a better go of it, Air China send many A330-200's to Europe, which would be perfect for the route I would think. Would amount to another one-stop option for Irish people going to SE Asia or Australasia too, which could only be a good thing

Apparently, and not necessarily for next year but South America and India are also key destinations for IAG for Dublin. I believe the aim is to set up these routes and then feed UK/IRL pax through Dublin rather than have them go through Heathrow or other hubs in Europe.

I imagine that's why Cathay and Qatar (if they stay in IAG)are looking at starting Dublin so they can keep passengers either within IAG or One World Alliance.

Not a new route, or operator, however, United airlines will be operating double daily Newark year round, with the UA23/22 and UA130/131 from April.

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,173 ✭✭✭✭JCX BXC

Going from Double Daily only in the summer?
