Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Manchester City.

They blew everyone out of the water.

Fúck FFP. They decided as a result to go out and give themselves the best possible chance of being successful.

    Man Utd
For me its a toss up between stoke and man city. Man city have an unreal squad but I do think mark Hughes has brought in a great amount of flair to stoke in the window.

    Bournemouth
don't seem to be able to edit the poll, but coulda made a worse typo.

City did very well but relative to what you'd expect them to do Villa, Stoke, West ham and a few others have def had a good window

    Everton
Has to be City although Palace did very well also.

    Chelsea got in Michael Hector.

    Nuff said.

    Man Utd
City by a mile in my biased opinion. United did ok with their new signings, but their squad looks so thin after their sales. Imagine if Smalling gets a bad injury.

    What idiots voted for Everton?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,710 ✭✭✭✭Paully D

    Manchester City is the answer.

It's interesting to see how well a lot of the so called smaller teams did. Many of them got a hell of a lot stronger. It was very easy for you to get left behind this summer down at the bottom.

Pound-for-pound, Cabaye and Wijnaldum the best signings IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,290 ✭✭✭✭rob316

Man City are the winners here. West Ham, Newcastle, Swansea, Crystal Palace and Stoke all did good business, Liverpool too but it remains to be seen if Rodgers is the right man to manage that squad.

"Swansee" might have actually and they hardly spent anything!

Ye Swansea did well kept all their key men and signed a player that fits their system and improves them. They seem to be a really well run club with a clear plan.

    Stoke
Of the top teams, Manchester City did fantastically well with some very exciting players and have probably blown their rivals out of the water.

I think Manchester United have done reasonably well. I think they're lacking in areas but they've addressed the midfield issue rather well. Only time will tell with Martial really and there's going to be plenty of pressure on Van Gaal if he can't get those players ticking.

Of all the other teams, Swansea's acquisitions have been brilliant. Barely spent a penny and they have some great attacking players. Ayew and Gomis could be absolute gold for them.

Stoke have made some interesting signings and are certainly worth keeping an eye on. Likewise with West Ham though they have been a bit all over the place at the moment. Think both of those teams will have their players clicking nicely though.

I'm happy with Newcastle's signings. I think we're light in certain areas but I am excited to see more of Thauvin and Wijnaldum as the season progresses.

On paper, Stoke have done very well

    Man Utd
Some of the smaller clubs did really well bringing in some top class players, but City are already odds on favourites to win the league only 4 games in because of their business.

Hard to argue against them - spent a fortune, sure, but on very good players.

    Liverpool :P

Liverpool, really? They needed a quality cb and another experienced fb.Didn't get either.

    City by far. Swansea.

Wouldn't be surprised if Stokes transfers kinda set them back a bit

    Thread title is wrong.

Who got the best squad after the transfer window closed is what it should be.
£49 for Sterling is not good business, €75 for De Bruyne is not good business.
And so on and so on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,877 ✭✭✭RayCon

    Stoke
I voted Swansea ... Ayew for free looks some bit of business.

They bought Clyne in to replace Johnson. I think Milner, Benteke (despite the inflated price) & Gomez will be good signings. Jury out on Firmino for me.
A quality centre back is what the majority of the teams in the league needed but I wouldn't want to panic & end up with another Lovren type again
If Arsenal bought a striker or a defensive midfielder I'd probably say them. As they signed Cech & lost nobody which is just as important as buys.

Then it's Newcastle as they bought relatively low & hope to sell those at a profit.
Kudos to Monaco for acquiring €200m from player sales. Bar Falcao who will never get back the money spent on him they haven't put a foot wrong in the transfer market

City have been left with the best squad overall but it's not really comparable. Only Chelsea or Man U or the teams in the EPL that can spend that kind of money.

Just looking at the lists of transfers, it could be one of West Ham, Villa or Stoke.

West Ham have got some very good players in and could have a really good team together if they get it right.

Villa are finally signing some decent players with EPL experience, like Sinclair, Richards and now Lescott. Gestede is pretty good and I was impressed with Amavi until his cock-up against Palace.

Hughes is really building a decent side at Stoke and he should be commended for how he's changing the club's identity from a Pulis side to a Hughes side. He hasn't done it all in one sweep either, he's gradually putting his print on the side. It remains to be see how it works but they've made some really good additions to what they already have, Shaqiri particularly. Like Villa, in Johnson, Stoke have signed a player that isn't top-tier EPL but has bags of experience and will definitely help them out.

Watford have also signed a lot fo decent players but they've signed A LOT of them and it's going to be murder to work out a consistent XI.

The other teams are a bit meh. Apart from Cech and Pedro, Arsenal and Chelsea haven't done anything really. Yeah, Chelsea spent 20m on the Augsburg right back but he hasn't played for us yet and the guy in his position is having a shocker.

Man U built a decent midfield but still need to fill some gaps in defence and up front. Because of the timing and price of it, the Martial deal screams panic, despite the spin people will try to put on it. Also, I think they were very rash to get rid of so many squad players.

I actually thought Liverpool were doing well. They got their business done early and seemed to have finished a while ago but they could still do with a bit.

So far, signing of the season has been Andre Ayew, has been really impressive in any game I've seen and to think he was free.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,477 ✭✭✭✭Knex*

It's a tough one to evaluate.

City's business will likely bring them the title, so I went with them, but Villa have improved their squad despite losing their best player, and Swansea have done very well.

So who do you think did the best business this window?

If the poll isn't there yet give it a minute there are 20 options to add

Thanks to Harry for the below post taken from the summer transfer thread

No West Ham & West Brom in Harry's post.

I think its between the hammers and City who did the best in that window.

    Dimitri Payet (Marseille, £10.7m)
    Angelo Ogbonna (Juventus, £8.5m)
    Michail Antonio (Nottingham Forest, £7m)
    Pedro Obiang (Sampdoria £4.4m)
    Nikica Jelavic (Hull City, £3m)
    Stephen Hendrie (Hamilton, £1m)
    George Dobson (Arsenal, undisclosed)
    Darren Randolph (Birmingham City, free)
    Carl Jenkinson (Arsenal, loan)
    Manuel Lanzini (Al Jazira, loan)
    Alex Song (Barcelona, loan)
    Victor Moses (Chelsea, loan)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,406 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

    Liverpool
I think Leicester made some nice moves that addressed some issues they had and it seems to have given them some decent impetus early.

Obviously City killed it at the sharp end, but of the rest I think Inler, Okazaki and Huth were very nice pick ups and at the upper end of what a club like Leicester can hope to do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43,311 ✭✭✭✭K-9

Leicester and Villa seem to have done well. Newcastle too but I'm no hipster!

City spent crazy money, United trailed off and Liverpool did fine, can't address everything in one go unfortunately

Mad Men's Don Draper : What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons.
