Cillian on the bench for a comeback today. good to see

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,196 ✭✭✭PressRun

Rochford mentioned on TG4 that this is part of Cillian's rehab. I'd say he'll get a few minutes towards the end to just start easing him back into the swing of things.

    Very wasteful already.

And getting worse it seems, totally dominant though.

That pitch is a disgrace. Watching this from a neutral point of view and it's tough enough to look at.

    Yep. Pitch is a joke.

8 wides so far, playing with a good wind, cat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,381 ✭✭✭Westernyelp

Mayo are dominating this but the wides are ridiculous. that will give the Rossies hope

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,196 ✭✭✭PressRun

There should be a good 8 points on the board now and there isn't. I appreciate that the conditions are awful but some of those wides are terrible.

Tripe football from Mayo. Want this to be over already . At this rate id say Roscommon by 4

Big improvement in most sectors though

To be fair, Roscommon aren't exactly setting the world alight. The pitch is a virtual bog, an utter disgrace for both teams. Mayo should be out of sight at this stage though.

What?????. The Rossies have only played in the last 10 mins. Mayo should be out of sight, but for some awful shooting.

Forwards just not good enough, its what continues to limit this team.

Going to be a close one.

Kerry well on top in Clones.

Don't know what Freeman was doing in general play in that first half. Called for 2 balls and got turned over both times.

Edit : Another prime example of him running up an alley-way there.

    Great goal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,196 ✭✭✭PressRun

    What is AOS even doing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,907 ✭✭✭✭Kristopherus

Bloody hell, is that the only way Freeman could be got off the field.

Lovely bit of skill from COC, great to have him back.

Stupid defending there. What on earth were the 2 defenders doing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,495 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

Jesus, if we throw away an 8 point lead to this lot we deserve to be relegated.

Good to get that win, away from home, under pressure, against the form team of the spring.

Roll on next week, hopefully we win and don't get unlucky and lose out on points diff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,620 ✭✭✭Blackjack

    Happy with that now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,196 ✭✭✭PressRun

Showed good enough resilience to hold on in the conditions. We were the better team and deserved to win. The goal should not have happened and we should have won by a lot more, but a win is a win.

Evan Regan gave a very good account of himself. Great to see Cillian back too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 916 ✭✭✭homewardbound11

Thanks god that over . Gladly eat my hat from earlier . Regan finally put in a championship performance . Looked good. Can see the changes needed for the front 6 . Diarmud cillian Evan Aiden ao 2 positions still for grabs . Mcloughin maybe and a tie up for the other

Well deserved win in atrocious conditions. Regan finally stood up after all the injuries and looked like the championship starter that he can be. Paddy Durcan continues to look the real deal as well. We still look like we'll be a big threat once we get our best team fully fit and on to the field in decent football conditions. Just need to beat Down now and then get ready for the real stuff from June onwards.

Not sure what you can say about the whole Roscommon setup today but I'll try anyway. The Hyde is a ****ehole anyway but today was a new low. Apart from all the standing water it looked like they'd driven 50 laps through it on their bus before throw in. It was like watching that GAA Gold program showing matches from the 1970s on TG4 today.

The game should not have been played on that pitch and there should be no further inter county football played there until such time as both the pitch and spectator facilities are brought up to standard. It's not everyone else's fault they've allowed it to fall into that state and other teams shouldn't have to deal with their issues - if they want to play their own club games in that place, that's fine. They couldn't even put proper communications lines into place for radio broadcasts today.

And for all their shouting their team didn't look anything special either.

The thuggish Rossies beaten in their own patch by a far superior Mayo team .

More fairies than thugs. The usual Rossie had it won before it started. We should have won by ten.
Worrying first half but wind didn't help. Regan played well.
Superb second half and showed some great desire.
Rossies are stunned after that. Dublin will destroy them next week if they play like that. Though that pitch can't take one more game never mind 2 or 3.

I'm sure we won't see that troll back here for a while. 😆😆😆😆

Got the tickets today for Sunday. Heading down from Meath to see this one. Should be a great game. Come on the Rossies.

Prediction Roscommon by 7 or 8 points.

    Roscommon supporters after the game...
The Ros B team, augmented by some U21 and squad players, having secured a semi-final spot, still put it up to a Mayo squad scratching and scrapping for their Division 1 future. I don't think anyone in Roscommon thought Mayo would take this nothing game as seriously as they did. Mayo won their All-Ireland today, Roscommon have bigger things to look forward to.

A good training session for Roscommon all the same.

    Gotta love the Rossies :)

'The form team of the spring' - really? I think Dublin might argue with that a little bit!

That chap isn't a Roscommon fan..why don't you look at his post history where he said a number of times he is from meath...he didn't even know the names of the Roscommon players when questioned

    Great win !
Need to get smarter to see games out (saying that a long time )
Frees still a killer. No point hitting one over from the sideline if you miss one from the 21!
Lots of positives though. I think Conor o Shea could be a vital player this summer. His physicality in the FF line frees up Aidan to play further out the pitch !
Fantastic to see Cillian back . Made the free at the end look routine when others had missed easier
    He is SO important

Well "unexpected" form team then, we all knew what Dublin are about, but Ross were on a 4 game winning run.

    Enjoyed the win, wides.........

Good overall team performance and great midfield play, with some supurb rapid one two play up the middle. Solid marking/defence with good accurate hand passing. Another improvement I feel and getting championship ready from what I can see. Well done, cant wait for next weekend. :D

I would have thought that a pitch on a hill would have had excellent drainage or it would be very easy to improve drainage. Had to have a look at the pitch afterwards and its in a very very bad way, no wonder players were skidding all over the place.

Shock of the century if you were to believe the Rossie's pre-game hype. My, that pitch and stadium are a disgrace.... It's straight from the late 80s. At least they have a shiny bus in the place of a 21st century venue. Mayo should have been home and dry by half time. Some serious work to be done with the forwards.

Going out the door for a few tasty pints.
Good win rossie sh1te no midfield bring on the championship.
    Taxi is awating

Am I right in thinking we are pretty much safe in div1 . Cork are in Tralee next week and with their points difference a loss means they could well be in relegation. That is if Mayo win and Monaghan beat Donegal .
If Donegal win then Monaghan are relegated and our match against down is then irrelevant .
If we win and Monaghan beat Donegal then we can make the play offs but a huge score of +25 points is needed. Again all assuming cork loose in Tralee.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,037 ✭✭✭Cosmo Kramer

Well if we lose to Down we could be in trouble. Then again if we lose to Down at home we'll deserve to be relegated. While it's possible, it's hard to see us beating Down and getting relegated.

I'm confident at this stage that we'll stay up and continue our record of being the longest standing team in Division 1 (nearly 20 years now). Next year the fixture list will most likely be a lot less kind to the Rossies and hopefully kinder to us and you'll have either Galway or Cavan in the top division as well. So no reason why we shouldn't be looking to maintain our status for the foreseeable future.

This year, Roscommon were away to Cork, Donegal and Kerry (all counties with excellent home records) and they passed those tests with flying colours. Can't really see next years schedule being a lot less kind to them.

Delighted I made the trip, super win.

TBF the pitch was atrocious, totally unfair to expect inter county footballers to perform on same.

Performance I thought we dominated proceedings from the get go other than that short spell post the Roscommon goal.

Our intensity levels were first class and we totally bossed them in terms of physicality.

First half we were defensively very sound, some silly turnovers and lots of relatively poor wides with a couple of spurned goal chances, one a half chance. We really should have been 6 to 8 points at least to the good at the break.

Marvellous 15 minutes or so after the restart, panic stations in full mode post the goal concession. We never like to make it easy for ourselves.Nice clincher from Cillian on his wrong side considering that awfully difficult to read swirly wind even for a close in free.

Robert Hennelly was sound in goals, kicked a couple of quality frees off an awful surface with a wide thrown in as is the norm.

Brendan Harrison put in another sterling performance,Tom Cunniffe has his work cut out to win back his corner back berth.Ger Caff was imperious as he has been throughout the current campaign.Hopefully his injury is of a minor nature.Chris Barrett made an excellent return.

Our wonderful half backs Lee Keegan and Colm Boyle were at the top of games, superb.Patrick Durkan's introduction made a huge difference. He's a strong favourite for the number 7 jersey with some able back up in Shane Nally.Donal Vaughan has a real fight on his hands to get a starting spot.

Tom Parsons and Seamie O Shea lorded midfield,Tom alongside Colm Boyle have been our players of the current campaign.Great to see a welcome tour de force display from Seamie.

Many issues up front, the positives Diarmuid's excellence,Aidan O Shea's link up play and quicker release of same said ball, hard balls won like Boyle,Parsons and his brother Seamus.Bodies put on the line.

Jason Doherty was largely anonymous,Conor O Shea showed well for the ball.Alan Freeman as always needs to utilise his undoubted physicality to win his contests. He kicked his frees,Evan Regan got all the headlines with his goal, lovely skill. He appeared to take a crazy amount of steps.A few needed challenging frees landed..Little threat from play in terms of the scoreboard up front.

Welcome return from Cillian O Connor,Alan Dillion will be a very useful squad player, top game intelligence.Pretty surprised Evan Regan got MOTM from TG4,he got a few vital scores but like many of our inside men was only sporadically effective.Surely Seamie O Shea,Tom Parsons or Colm Boyle were a tad were worthy of this accolade?

Hopefully we'll get a decent win against Down as I'm firmly in the camp that believes it is vital we preserve our division one status. There was nothing in our performance that will have Dublin or Kerry quaking in their boots.

But we have been defensively sounder this league campaign, hopefully we can increase our effectiveness in offensive terms.

After the brutality of the last few weeks there may be a few green shoots......
