My Mams 60th Birthday

All ideas welcome. My mothers 60th is in a month & I know she doesnt want a party but would like a meal for family and friends. My question is this: Would the guests expect there meal to be paid for? A couple of people have said this to me so im not sure! If so thats out the window as I couldnt afford to do that!

I would say yes, they would expect the meal to be paid for.

Would hosting it in a house be an option? Do you have siblings to help spread the cost and work?

Eh I don't know. Usually if I go out with a group of friends to celebrate another persons Birthday we split the cost between us but leave the Birthday person out of it-we all pay towards the birthday person.

You could get a set menu and price somewhere and tell people there's a meal planned you're welcome to come and it's this price per person etc
