I'm sure Gerry would have only given my own answer 4 out of 10 at best if he read it, ha ha.

I did read it dude, i've read them all so far.

    gotta check out the competition!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,491 ✭✭✭thebostoncrab

Nicely debated, wish we had more than 2 responses as I think we could keep going, got plenty to say in defence of my booking on your last post! :p

    Curses!

Damn you Beaker, you've foiled me! Avenged your loss from last year, and in devastating fashion.

Hard luck Gerry. I only got a chance to read the responses from you both there now. I thought your answer was pretty good. But then again, I'm a bit of a mark for Dave Finaly too.

I'm pretty disappointed if i'm honest.

I think maybe I put too much work into it. There was a lot of content there. I'll have to really think it through, if i'll bother entering next year

I know man, it's very hard when you don't make it out of the round after writing so much stuff. Don't worry though because I found your answer very good and quite exciting if it happened.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,801 ✭✭✭✭beakerjoe

I really wasn't expecting that, I was sure it was going to be a tight affair and assumed Id be edged out by a great argument by Gerry to a point were I felt his argument was better than mine. Id love to hear voters thoughts on the match as I feel the voting result doesn't tell the story of a close debate in terms of effort and reasoning.

Great game Gerry....Our rubber match is next year yeah?

It's an odd one tbh as I'd say yours was far more interesting but by going so much more outside the box than Joe you left yourself open to making more mistakes with your proposal that Joe could critique and perhaps he benefited from keeping it more simple.

Maybe people don't want to see Sheamus in the mania main event although it was a more interesting pitch for example.

personally I kinda wish I had not made the first response vs MNG as he was very good at countering and re-phrasing what should be considered important by the reader (voter) and it's very hard if you don't get the last word and a chance to respond to that kinda thing.

Perhaps... I might have to go away and rebuild myself - come back a new warrior. Might even turn heel!

Youve been great with Celebs in the draft, Im sure you'll figure something out ;)

tis almost the opposite of the celeb round in the draft this time as in that (usually) they have to have had some involvement with the WWE to be eligible but not here

I have my celebrity diva chosen, just trying to decide between two options of who she should face.

keep mind the celeb must not have been involved previously with WWE in any way

Immediately thought serena Williams myself! Ten I thought Ellen Degreneress, she could come in with the rock, manage him for a match against trips with Steph. She has such a huge reach and by connecting with an a lister like the rock would entice a lot more of her fans to watch the product

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,491 ✭✭✭thebostoncrab

Thought I had lost that after your last rebuttal if I'm being completely honest! Nicely debated, really enjoyed that one :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,801 ✭✭✭✭beakerjoe

Congrats TBC on making it through to the Semi Final in an extremely well debated encounter with Cheese Wagstaff, ending 16 votes to 9 in favor of TBC.

Both had completely different ideas and both poked many holes in eachothers answers. Great game guys.

Bounty Hunter shall be throwing up the next match for The Crab Man as his opponent is myself. I look forward to a good question and a hard battle.

I would have picked actress Taraji P. Henson (Empire and Person of Interest) as female celebrity for WM maybe pairing her with PTP

About the question, just so Im sure, it can be any gimmick previously used in WWE, whether successful or dire?

And does the gimmick have to be a complete change from the choosen wrestler current gimmick?

    yup

who knows given to a different person and now in a different era some dire gimmick's could have succeeded. So yes you can make John Cena 2015s Shockmaster!

and re-the second part that you must have quickly edited in. It can be as much of a change as you want I guess but I dunno if it would be in the spirit of the thing to barey change someone and I dunno if i'd vote for you over the other person if thats what you did but then again I guess it'd depend on how fitting your choice was, how you did it and what tweaks you made to their character.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,801 ✭✭✭✭beakerjoe

Ok so theres plenty of scope,

Now do I take a succesful gimmick and place it on someone who needs a change

    or

Do I take a crap gimmick and make it work with a star?

    Ive much to ponder

Same, gonna take my time here if I'm honest, have a few different ideas and want to pick the best one possible

My problem with the question is that i cant find a gimmick tochoose nor a wrestler that suits.

Any wrestler I think of, Im having trouble thinking of a suitable gimmick and any gimmick I come up with, Im having problems fitting it to a wrestler.

    Its a noodle scratcher.

I think Ive settled on a gimmick and the wrestler who will take over it for the modern day audience.

Ive had plenty of bonkers ideas that I fear I may regret choosing.

Ha, I'm knackered after it. And now I have to go and add up the points for the Fantasy League game. I should get a good night's sleep at least.

hope you share them here after youve both picked think this question could have had some mad alternative ideas although till youve chosen I can only mention ones you'd never pick... Hustle, Loyalty and Crush America, it's Soviet Cena!

Just posted up my last rebuttal.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,933 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

Jaysus just reading those last 2 responses was exhausting I can't imagine writing them. tis a tough one I think I had been won over but then MNG had the last word again and I've learned from my bout with him just how dangerous that can be.

if it had been me and not him though...

Think although she has been a little out of the spotlight in recent years I'd have gone with Laila Ali for this one myself. tie her appearance into promoting the Muhammad Ali center (Charity mostly linked with Parkinsons iirc), big up her dads own history with WWE and wrestling in general (fought Antoni Inoki for example) and that she retired undefeated from a combat sport (boxing obviously) so should be able to handle herself in ring etc. Could work either in the Divas section or just fill the spot that Rousey probably would have had The Rock/Ali vs HHH/Steph

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Debating against someone like MNG makes me wish I could put up more than two replies. He really hones in on your arguments and I have to say he's been a great opponent.

Is there a poll going up for the completed semi final?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,933 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

Would assume Beaker will next time he's on. I could do it but no rush I guess seeing as the other Semi hasn't seen either competitor post responses yet (tis the weekend slowdown) anyway and now people have longer to read your arguements before the thread is bumped with the addition of the poll.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Ah cool, was just wondering cos polls have gone up during some matches. Thought it may have slipped the mind maybe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,801 ✭✭✭✭beakerjoe

Busy weekend so wasnt able to check in on my match or add teh poll. In hindsight its probably best to throw the poll up now after the weekend anyway with more eyes on the site after a busy weekend.
