Is Grimes playing any other festivals this year?

Not a proper gig but I love this performance from LCD

She's playing Positivus which seems to have a decent overlap with EPs lineup. Her only other gig in Ireland is solo in the Olympia next week. Might be a possible addition.

Delighted with the opening gambit from the organizers. Selection of these upper mid tier acts would go down a treat for me:

    M83
    Jagwar Ma
    Four Tet
    Chance the Rapper
The Last Shadow Puppets (possibly once their Olympia dates fulfilled?)
    Eagles of Death Metal
    Electric Light Orchestra
    Jake Bugg
    The Roots
Jamie xx (saw somewhere back this thread he's playing elsewhere but couldn't find it online?)
    Annie Mac
    Public Service Broadcasting
    Booka Shade
The Coral (new album is more than decent imo)

Also fancy Hozier as a relatively low cost sub headliner to appease the more commercially driven radio orientated among the faithful.

Say it isn't so! Really hoping for Jamie xx

Jagwar Ma would be nice! No Irish dates on their UK tour in May, so I assume they'll play an Irish festival? Didn't know them when they played the EP in 2013.

Jamie XX there might be a chance still, his last listed appearance is Flow Festival in Finland August 12th, if he gets added to Rock en Seine in Paris there is a good chance that he may still appear at the Picnic.

Unlikely but I would'nt mind seeing Childish Gambino, has he ever played here?

He was supposed to play the Academy about 4 years ago, I had tickets and all but he cancelled due to work schedule.. I think he had to film community.
If he played Picnic I'd sell my soul for a ticket

Don't want to come across as a shill for Pink Moon (or any of the boutique camping sites).

But from checking the Pink Moon website, they are showing two of the larger tent options as sold out so if anyone is thinking of using them for groups, i'd get the deposits down, once the big ones go then people will start grabbing the two man tents and booking under a group name.

A lot of the PodPads are sold out as well! There's 3 tents of us sorted but it's left a few friends looking at Pink Moon. And they gave out to me for wanting to book early

Some good names there but ELO would have to be a headline act.

I'd like to see Brian Deady in there somewhere as well, Non Fiction is a not notch album.

Suede would be another call in there.

Gregory Porter to be greedy as well.

Would really love a Suede set (they were sublime a few weeks ago in Olympia) but they seem to be pretty sparse so far for festival appearances, do many festivals do the EP thing of holding back names to boost ticket sales?

Their last festival of the year looks like an utter cracker

Who would have thought anything could make the name Bognor Regis sound attractive.

Yeah I see many festivals do this style of announcing, Sziget, Latitude, Reading & Leeds, Festival No 6 and Bestival amongst others,

Yeah it's common practice - drives up hype. And for smaller acts, they might not have been booked in time / contracts not in place. I've never seen a festival that announces it's lineup all in one go.

Don't Coachella, Primavera and Glastonbury all announce in one big name dump?

In my experience, usually if bands are confirmed for these festivals before the big announcement it's because they have confirmed themselves or the info has been leaked.

Though I do think Glasto usually announce the legends slot on the Sunday early enough each year, so maybe I'm wrong about the others too.

M83 are playing a festival in France the weekend before EP and are not scheduled EP weekend.
All fingers crossed EP will snap them up!

Was just looking at their line up, some of these will probably be playing Rock en Seine too on the same weekend. http://cabaretvert.com/concerts/

Maybe they do for their own stages, but a lot of these festivals are composed of lots of different bookers. For example, at EP you have the bookers of the core EP stages, but then there's Body and Soul, Other Voices, whatever is in the forest, Trailer Park, Salty Dog, Trenchtown, etc. etc.

A lot of the later additions to the EP lineup come from these other stages.

There's possibly also cash-flow aspects in play (and this bit I'm entirely guessing) - EP might have a booking made on some other headliner right now, but only enough money for some kind of deposit on the fee, and so they announce a few early headliners, get the money from the additional tickets sold and then use that to finalise the other headliner and sub-headline acts. You don't want your bank account to be empty all at once!

Chap from Sleaford Mods was just on BBC6 with Radcliffe, they went through their not small list of festival dates and he said that there were still more to be announced so filthy sweary ****ing fingers crossed for the *****.

Out of curiosity, what are the options regarding camping outside of the normal campsites? There are the pod pads & pink moon.. Is there anything else? Can anyone shed some info how these work or what is involved in them? Are they add ons that you can buy after you've bought your ticket or do you have to buy them while buying your ticket?

Edit: I see the boutique section on the EP website. Pink moon looks like what I was thinking of, is it €195 per person for a 2 man tent or between the two of ye? Also, what are peoples experiences of camping here, is it worth the money? I know there have been plenty of posts about it in the threads over the years but it's not something I've really paid any attention to. How far in advance do they usually sell out?

Yeah thats the link I came across too http://www.electricpicnic.ie/information Can't really give any more info on this respect, but some of the posters was saying some of these options was selling out, so you'll have to be quick.

I camped Pink Moon last year and loved it. It was quieter and calmer so I managed to sleep and kept my energy up for the whole weekend - and wasn't totally f*cked returning to work on the Tuesday like normal!

There was no worry about someone trampling my tent, plus the dedicated entrance to the site was great.

There was a good buzz around the bar area where you could drink your cans or buy stuff, so plenty of options for meeting people and that too.

I had no complaints. As far as I can see, they have upped the price this year which is annoying - it's part of the reason I held off buying a ticket actually - but word is that they are selling really quickly anyway so I wouldn't leave it too long. Last year, I think they sold out before the festival did so I wouldn't be surprised to see the same again.

The prices listed are usually per tent, not per person too, but I haven't looked on it in months so apologies if they have changed it. I got a 2 man tent, sleeping bag and sleeping mat - was great to not have to lug up piles of stuff.

I'm sure you got your answer when reading the info section, but you can add them on at any point until they sell out. Only thing you need to buy at the same time as the ticket is the campervan stuff and the family site afaik.

One thing about their prices for the sleeping mats and bags, they are crazy expensive for a rental, if you wait till the weekend before the picnic, it's end of season sale time for a lot of the outdoor shops. I picked up a couple of really nice comfy sleeping mats for near half price which will do for many many years.

Oh for sure. They're crazy overpriced, but I didn't mind for the convenience of carrying just one bag for once!!

Might be an odd choice, but I didn't realise that Tears For Fears were still a going concern, they're playing one date at the end of July in the UK.

Aye wasn't sure where they'd fit on the bill. Knew they were playing the Legends slot at Glastonbury so decided to throw them in. Be class if they took a leaf out of Glasto's book on this occasion.

I thought of ELO as maybe similar level to Robert Plant couple years back.

Was in Pink moon last year would recommend it to anyone was very chilled out atmosphere, had loads of proper toilets and showers and even had it's own entrance right beside the Electric Arena

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,654 ✭✭✭✭MJohnston

I was in Pink Moon too last year (just myself in a regular 2 man tent for laziness), and nightmarish registration queue aside (no seriously it was very very grim), it was really great - as mentioned the toilets were better than any I've seen at a festival - frequently serviced and refilled with loo roll, never really dirty either. The showers looked very good too, individual cubical things, but I had no sandals/flip flops so I didn't want to use them. Being able to enter the arena directly behind the comedy tent was very handy, although this closed at night and there was a fair oul trek through the woods to get back when that happened, but otherwise useful. Tents were decent, nothing magical, but having the mattress and sleeping bags there on arrival was really handy, it kept the hand luggage to a minimum.

Diiv and Eagles of Death Metal confirmed for Rock en Seine in Paris the weekend before EP.

Official announcement on the 21st of March, a good indicator as to who'll be around.
