GTX upgrade from a 660 GTX

    HI guys thing it's finally time I upgrade my graphics.

    I have been running a 660 GTX on a i5 3570k with 8gb ram and an TX 650 W Cosair PSU (which is old but I guess it's still ok)

    I always thought it did quite well in any games I threw at it but I'm looking to uprgade so I can play the new suite of game eg. Witcter 3, MGSV and probably a heavily modded Fallout4 in about 6 months. that said I play 10 times more Tf2 than anything else.

    Obviously money is an issue, but I am looking for best bang for buck and resale value. I am only aware of the nVidia nomenclature and can tell you that a X80 is out of the question as it an X50.

    I would gladly get a 2nd hand one. Any Ideas, I could beat through list of graphs but I alway thought you'd end up with the same result if you just ask here!

    GTX970 at the €340-ish level.

    AMD offer the R9 290 substantially cheaper than the GTX970 at around €270 but at the cost of higher power demands.

    The lesser cards wouldn't be worth upgrading to (GTX960; R9 280X)

    You should get around €100 for the GTX660.

    Your psu good for most any gpu.

    Can sell your current 660 for maybe 80.

    For 250 you'll get a second hand gtx 780 3gb. Not available


    about 200 will get a second hand gtx 770 2gb. Not available

    180 will get a second hand amd r9 280x 3b. New 240

    Any questions. A new gtx970 is near 400 euro. Second hand 330.

    Hmm, 340 is a bit of a push tbh. I suppose I would get +80 for the 660 so it would offset but I think it might be beyond my budget. Whats the consensus about the 970, future proof? Considering I was relatively happy with a 660, would a 960 not be enough? Would a 770 be much cheaper than a 970? I'll look into the 290. Cheers!

    Right, there is no way I'm going to fork out near 440, eve with selling the 660 and getting a 2nd hand 970 I'm still looking at àpprox 270 euro.

    What would you guys pick: 960 or 770 - more my price range. I know there might not be a huge bump from a 660, but will lit let me handle new games on high 1080?

    Second hand 290 can be gotten under 250, if not, 960 as it is newer

    I wouldn't bother going from a GTX660 to a GTX960 though. You're not going to get a significant boost considering you'll have to shell out €200. Look at reviews. In games like Battlefield 4 and Advanced Warfare the 960 is only about 15% faster.

    A second hand R9 290 for the €230-250 mark is the only real upgrade path at a minimum. Anything lower just isn't worth it.

    You could also pick up a second hand GTX680 for about €150 on adverts and that would be a considerable boost also for not much extra when you factor in the sale price of the 660.
