gents, I'm looking for some advise on a quadcopter. First time buyer and not sure what model would be best. I would like one I could mount a go pro to and have a fpv, want to use it for taking some photos and general messing around, would also like to keep the budget under or around 400, not adverse to adverts just unsure which models would be best. Looked at the parrots but would like a seperate controller not phone/tab, any advise would be great
    Thanks

A friend of mine bought DJI Phantom 1 as his first drone and used it with a go Pro but afaik his setup back then did not support fpv. He has recently upgraded to the latest model with inbuilt camera and fpv via iPhone. I haven't controlled it myself but from what I have seen it was easy to setup.

If the DJI Phantom is too expensive, this is a very similar systems that uses APM as it's flight controller.

It gets decent reviews, I don't have one personally, but do use APM a lot and am very happy with it.

...and these to view the FPV transmission (you'll also need a transmitter and receiver). :D

Unfortunately i dont want to spend the kind of cash a dji will set me back but the above looks perfect! think we have a winner for the drone now the fpv problem!

I think (not certain) that the GoPro Wifi link can interfere with the GPS and/or radio control connection, so you might need to be a bit creative there. The goggles I linked to are basically an in-car screen with a few extra bits to strap in on to your head.

You can use a 5.8GHz analog Tx/Rx instead that can take the GoPro AV out and transmit it, but it won't be HD or anywhere close. Think 1980s telly and you're closer. If you have an Android tablet that supports OTG, this method works well (I have used it on a Nexus 7), but you have to make sure to buy the correct dongle.

If you can afford the drone but not the fpv I suggest you still go for a drone and learn to control it visually. It will take you lots of hours to master it and you can always upgrade later. Afaik the fpv can be temperamental and can be dangerous is you only relay on it. Good luck with your new hobby.

This page will have to be translated into English from Dutch and relates to Dutch regulations on Drones but is still worth a read

I got into multirotors by building this tricopter:

It's a great introduction to multis and it flies great with a KK board,

I recently bought a "250" quad, but I still prefer the Tri for manoeuvrability and sheer fun. I'll post some pics when I get a chance
