I don't follow your logic why X amount off is not an offer. But 20% off is.

Doesn't really matter anyway. Some items (that I've been watching) went up before the sale, some went down. I just didn't buy the ones that went up in price. That's the whole point of price watching.

Not following, can you provide an example ?

I looked at one item and this is the way it happened and what the complaints are about.

So item "xyz" is on offer down from RRP with discount ends Thursday (offer was on for a while and ends)
Same item is on offer down from RRP with discount on Friday(new discounted price is a smaller percentage)

The above was not the scenario for all stock some did stay the same from last week or went back to full retail.

Then you have a separate offer of 20% off from Friday - Monday (totally separate)

    From Smyths FB page:

We have reviewed all comments regarding pricing around our 20% off promotion and would like to assure our customers that we do not engage in increasing prices prior to promotions.
At Smyths Toys, we stock approximately 10,000 different toys in our stores and, like most retailers, have promotions commencing and ending each and every week.
In the days and weeks prior to the 20% Off, we had a number of selected promotions reaching their planned end, for example, the 20% Off Little Tikes promotion which ran from 25 August 2015 to 17 September 2015 and we have a 33% Off Selected Lines promotion starting later this week.
We have taken the time to review each concern raised and have noted that most queries are in relation to a small number of products where a promotion ended in the days or weeks before the 20% Off began.
We would like to note that there is one item where the price was increased in error.
This item is the Landini 110 Tractor, Trailer and Loader (Item Number 131245) where the item scanned at €99.99 instead of €84.99. Any customer who bought this item can return to store for a refund of the difference.
We would like to sincerely apologise for this mistake.
Smyths Toys would like to take this opportunity to thank our loyal customers for their continued support.

Depends on how well Christmas goes, if the stuff is flying out the door, they won't bother with a sale.

There could well be further sales in regions where a Toys'r'us has just or is about to open.

I should clarify by went up in price I mean returned to a non discounted price. Wasn't in the 20% promotion anyway so one thing had nothing to do with the other.

Been looking at a step 2 toy kitchen for my little dudes and has always been 199euros. So was delighted to learn a new model (exactly the same but a different colour) had come out and the one I wanted was reduced to 167. Plus the 20% off and I got it for 135 euros! so delighted! these specific kitchens are literally never on sale! and only occassionally will have 20% off them. Delighted to get nearly 1/3 off especially since ive been thinking of getting it for a year now! lol. Just couldnt bring myself to pay full price for it. :)

Sligo1- got exact deal myself. Went to checkout, said it was 170 on shelf and told that's old model. In fairness, they went and got that model which looks no different!

Awesome! The display model could have also been got for another 10% less so about 120. But I preferred to get a new one in the box. Even if it will take me forever to put together :o. I'm really excited. Lol :D... How sad am I.

Nope, that was the price, thought it was great as one of them cost that much at the time!

Supply & Demand - basic economics... That toy might be popular this year, so price might go up...then combine that with the horrendous exchange rate that the Euro has been going through these past couple of months means when they were buying their next lot of stock from overseas, it now costs A LOT more now than it did this time last year... that's what it comes down to. Euro/Dollar was almost on par a few months ago... and it's only bobbing around the €1/$1.13 mark these past few weeks. Last year it was something like €1/$1.35, which is huge difference when importing 1000's of stock.

The Woody/Buzz Interactive toy in OTHER shops has increased in price just as much as Smyths.... so it's not down to Smyths being 'greedy'. Argos as selling it for €89... so Smyths are in fact cheaper than them
