Clean looking Honda crv taxed and tested till July for €850. Seems to have been well looked after.

Nice Merc C class auto that thankfully does not have the horrible 1.8. MIleage is suspiciously low at a convenient 100K, so look for evidence. Otherwise has NCT until Jan'17

    Worth a punt at €850

1993 Retro classic Corrolla. Looks tidy, and NCT for the year. €950

    4 wheeled beans on toast.

Whats wrong with the 1.8? Just slow and under powered, or something more sinister?

Trying to find reasons to hate on this, but aside from the interior showing signs of neglect and high usage ( not in line with stated low miles) and asthmatic 4-pot, this is a lot of car for less than €700, even before you start acting the chancer.

Over 10 months NCT. Cool plate as well.

That's probably a better option than the one I posted a few days ago, as despite it looking dirtier on the inside & having slightly less test, it's 2 years newer and should be easier to insure.
I was struggling to get quotes on a 2001 because it was outside their 'new business criteria'. I did get a few quotes though, and based on some of those, I'm now swaying towards the LuxoBarge option.
Although really I'm probably looking for something in between a LuxoBardge & Bangernomics!!

The 1.8 Kompressors have stretchy timing chains. Depending on how long the previous owner put up with the poor running, long term damage is also possible. If its already been fixed, you are generally good to go. If not, then its likely to fail.

Other than that, its a pretty decent car.

(although personally I prefer the previous one. :) )

Basic but practical, the essence of bangernomics. Service history with dealer, only 2 previous owners and looks presentable inside and out. A full years NCT... Just €650

That would be great for a summer runaround. Pity it doesn't fit a bike.

That Nissan is a blast from the past.

    NCT inpectors

he probably means people who are going to spend ages looking over every inch of the car before even making a bid on it

F**k that!! If I'm going to view a car I'll want to check it out properly before I decide if it's for me or not. Not allowing a buyer to properly inspect a car gives the impression the buyer has something to hide.

It's a €650 car though, it's going to have some issues. It's understandable to not want to waste time with someone who will pick out every little fault and flaw.

A dose of reality goes a long way.

Yeah there's a fine line between checking over a car and the person who's watched one too many episodes of wheeler dealer showing up wanting to take door cards and interior trim off and sniff the seats. I'd have no problem with someone checking over every inch of the car as long as they had made an offer which was subject to the inspection. But someone showing up who has taken the day off work and brought their tool box with a view to do a compression test on each cylinder - **** right off :D

I wouldn't expect anyone to allow you to take things apart. You should be allowed to do a good inspection though(without taking things apart). The nct doesn't take things apart and tbh on camera wheeler dealers usually carries out a very poor inspection on the car. (I'm sure off camera it's checked over well though by one of the team)

you and I know that but I'd say we would both be very surprised at the antics some people would get up to when they go to check out a car. I'd say the guy put it in in jest rather than being totally serious, by just meaning don't come intending to spend hours looking over the car with a little notebook out

Half bangernomics, half fixer upper. If you don't mind the tax, a good haggle and a wee bit of work then you'll have a nice car at the end of it all ....

Do you actually patrol topics for examples of anyone dissing Toyota so you can leap in and defend them unconditionally?

    Serious question.
