My 1997 Saab 93 non-turbo was slow. My 1993 Saab 9900 LPT was not. I dont know what the BHP of either car was. Thats all I know 😄

not saying the LPT is slow as such. I drive one myself and really like it. It's just I'd rather drive the machine with the larger turbo (was very tempted by the HOT Saab Aero that was on here a little while back, that one moved quickly (sold quickly anyway!))

Here is our Avensis that has been with us for a long time, never lets us down. Low miles for the age too. I've looked after this car like a baby since the late 90's.

Looks very clean, good luck with sale.

You will get a lot of offers below the asking due to the age of the car, but it does look great.

No I agree the LPT is not slow. The normally aspirated one is. The full turbos are quick. There may be a price to pay with increased insurance etc etc. you have to make that call. Good luck with deciding and hope it goes well whatever you choose

Foreign cars do not belong in here dude! Far too expensive and risky for this thread ;)

I'm.confused by his reason for selling.
So he didn't have a licence and bought the Alfa.
Then got a provisional and realised he cant insure it?

Yes it has chrome arches, but if that mileage is to be confirmed as genuine and you can get it for a grand (wishful thinking..maybe 11) it is positively a bargain in my books. Non psv tax until June too.

I booked nct recently and could easily find a spot within a week or two.

Lazy approach by the seller to book the test rather than testing it prior to the sale.

I would wait until 28th tbh.

Yea, agree with that. I booked a test last Monday and got it for Wednesday next.

Nice clean looking car alright. You don't see too many of them around anymore. What is it with some advertisers that they can't check the right box for Km's or miles.

Dunno about the title but it's taxed tested and gives all the signs that it's been minded like a child. And it's the last of the real saab models too ;)

No it's not. It's the first of the proper shyte GM ones

Really? always thought the 900 and the 9000 from the mid 90's were the last models GM didn't stifle. Then the 93 was the start of the GM era.
That said I'm not too big into saabs so am open to correction, Which model was the last true saab?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,152 ✭✭✭26000 Elephants

that model of 900 was largely based off the vectra chassis, but used saab engines. But in fairness saab did make significant engineering changes to make the 2 cars very different in feel and response. The early 93 was just a nip and tuck of the same car.

But it was largely GM sourced, The 9000 was a joint effort with Fiat. The original Fiat Croma and Lancia Thema shared the same floorpan, doors, etc.

I'd say you need to go back to the late '70s for the last new 'real' saab.

I understood that the 900 you refer to was about 1/3rd GM / 2/3rds Saab. What happened was that the production/accounting wonks in GM told Saab to use as much GM as possible. Saab went and designed and manufactured a lot of the parts for the 900. The public relations effect was exactly as you said - ''Why buy a 900 when I can have a Vectra for half the price?''

Anyway, the particular model the poster has put up is a nice variant with lots of extras. What I would say is that the 2-door versions are a pain because the roofline is low enough without having to climb in past the front seat. Then again if you are like most drivers you'll rarely have anyone in the back seat, so who cares.

The Saab 9000 was a great car, I never knew it based on the same chassis as the Thema.

I strongly disagree. I have an 01 9-3 and it's like new, better screwed together than a 3er, C- Class or A4 of the same time.

They have the GM chassis but it's SAAB engineered and built and it shows everywhere in the car. Well worth the money, easy and cheap to fix as well as being cheap to insure (or it is if you're in your 40's like me).

I am currently in the market for a bangernomics no bigger than 1.4(insurance reasons) and the amount of cars with a months test or no test and "needs nothing" is frustrating.
With alot of the cars at least 2 hours away I don't want to waste time travelling without buying but the short and absent test is off-putting.
Am I being too fussy in what is a buyer beware market?

Yet despite all that they still suffer from cracked bulkheads and have the usual gm boat like handling.

Whatever about the c class, the a4 and the 3 series are better screwed together than those saabs.

Sister's boyfriend is selling his motor, he's had for the last 4 years, took care of it throughout that time. It's a little rough around the edges, but it's very well looked after nonetheless. Even throwing in a roof rack as a bonus.

    NCT: Jan '17
    Tax: June '16
    All for €1,200 o.n.o
