    I don't really like these Astras but this is a 1 owner low mileage spotless example.

    I love it, if it was closer to Galway I'd be going for a look. There's one in Dublin with less than half the mileage asking an extra €500

    You mean the 03 one?
    What are the differences between the facelift and earlier ones except visuals?

    I know the NCT is a bit short but what are your thoughts about this?

    07 Alfa 147 Lusso.

    NCT is very short. If they did the NCT now or within the next month or so they could get a 2 year NCT.

    Instead they are not bothering which would suggest that there is either something wrong or that they are not aware of benefits of getting the longer NCT.

    Good point. I rang him today. There's no service history at all. When asked if the tb is done he assumed it has but cannot confirm it. I'm having a look tomorrow but I'd feel like driving through minefield until the belt was done.

    Without proof of the belt and pump done I'd be going in with my eyes wide open and haggling the cost down based on that.
    Listen to rattles in the suspension which is usually an ARB issue (not expensive but a PITA to do).
    Check for an coolant around the head and that water sprays from the rear wiper.
    If you do take it I'd be throwing it the next into a competent mechanic to have the belt done.

    Even if everything else checks out I'll be pushing for a bargain. I happen to have the cam locks for that engine and have done the belt before. I even have OEM variator repair kit if it's rattling but don't feel very comfortable pulling the variator itself apart.

    Is it just me or has it had some minor paintwork to the passenger door?

    I can tell from the pixels

    Nah.

    That door is original. Everything else has been changed!

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,812 ✭✭✭✭bear1

    Variator should be changed at every second belt change but considering you don't know when it was last done then for piece of mind id have it replaced.

    That's another 250€ on top isn't it?

    Really like the look of it with those alloys on though.

    Some Swedes for the thread, some may arguably belong in the 'Fixerupper' thread but I'll throw them in here as they're all tested and driving.

    S60 tax and test asking €999. Dent on the wing, NCT says 0km which may indicate electrical issues with the dash, and 284k km so a bit of haggle room.

    NDU3NDE0NDUzZTI4ODg5NjAzMTE2ODA0NjdhYWU0YzelrgRm9xm8CXjWB5fhPSf7aHR0cDovL3MzLWV1LXdlc3QtMS5hbWF6b25hd3MuY29tL2RvbmVkZWFsLmllLXBob3Rvcy9waG90b181OTIxNjg4OHx8fDYwMHg2MDB8fHx8fHx8fA==.jpeg

    07 Saab 9-5 tax and test and 117k km asking €1950:

    ZWMyNDY0MGU5MGM4MDZhZjRlM2RlMmE4M2RjM2ZmOTHD1jT5t6gzkeewSLRnNizeaHR0cDovL3MzLWV1LXdlc3QtMS5hbWF6b25hd3MuY29tL2RvbmVkZWFsLmllLXBob3Rvcy9waG90b182MDY0MjkzOHx8fDYwMHg2MDB8fHx8fHx8fA==.jpeg

    Another 9-5 with test asking €1800, possibly needs a wheel bearing so bit of haggle room.

    MDZlNjI2MDI3Yjk5M2UxMDBlMTVmNDIzMDZjMWVjNzaiOuqLe6M616GTa0Ua-Yl0aHR0cDovL3MzLWV1LXdlc3QtMS5hbWF6b25hd3MuY29tL2RvbmVkZWFsLmllLXBob3Rvcy9waG90b182MDU0NjQzMXx8fDYwMHg2MDB8fHx8fHx8fA==.jpeg

    9-5 estate with test, asking €650, sounds like it needs a throttle body cleaning.

    NDcwNDFkNTBhMDI4ZDg3MWRkZDgwM2RkYWM3NWY5OTjJ1u3_1nCav0miL4ZqWGNraHR0cDovL3MzLWV1LXdlc3QtMS5hbWF6b25hd3MuY29tL2RvbmVkZWFsLmllLXBob3Rvcy9waG90b182MDQzMzAyNXx8fDYwMHg2MDB8fHx8fHx8fA==.jpeg

    FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

    You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

    Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles to avoid the DRS fee.

    I have owned few 9-5 before and I have soft spot for them. "New turbo fitted" raises an eyebrow though. Oil service intervals?

    Ye, judging from the pics you'd need to have a good look over it and haggle accordingly, probably factor in a full service and sump drop/clean.

    Nah I think less, you can have them shipped from the UK for much less.
    If it sounds like a diesel then it will need one for sure. If it doesn't then it is up to you.
    If I was doing the belt and pump id get it changed as well just cause its easier when the belt is off.

    Camshaft is 135 pounds plus shipping but not all 147s had them.
    The 105 bhp one doesn't have one anyway

    Don baker was telling me that Alfa changed whatever the feck went wrong with them after 2004 and as a result are much less likely to fail.
    Even if they have failed, no damage will be done, it just won't have as much umph at top end speed

    Speaking of 9-5
    I used to own this Aero
    Bought it in Gorey and the engine starwed oil on the way home.
    Had to buy another Saab to get a hold of an aero engine and to a transplant. F.....g thing broke my heart.

    Bought a cheap BMW E46 Coupe Sport this evening (can't help myself :o)

    That will do me for the next while. Selling the TT as I need to pay for some renovations to the house.

    €400 will probably buy you this BMW. Long NCT. Looks like an honest ad to me. Probably up there as one of the best value cars posted in this thread this year. Very cheap fully comp classic insurance. Ireland is the only country in the world where you would get a car of this caliber for this kind of money.

    That is a serious find.

    Had a chat with the girl on the phone and will be on my way in few minutes.

    I had my filter set up over 600€ to filter out junk and that's how I missed.

    The 07 147 in Wicklow is a no go anyway.

    What happened with the 147 out of curiosity?

  • Registered Users Posts: 305 ✭✭B00056718

    The 147 will need 4 tyres, camshaft variator, belts, oil leak sorted, steering pump seems noisy. And mileage is flashing but proxy alignment should sort it. 190000 km and one entry in the book at 31k. Also needs passenger door handle. Strangely it has all of the Lusso toys but no cruise.

    The BMW I just finished test drive.
    When started, yellow oil light comes on but the level seems reasonable. Oil still needs change. The level sensor might be acting up.

    After a cold start it appears there's a blow in the exhaust but it bissapeared suddenly so probably a valve to secondary air pump.

    Quite a clunk from the propeller shaft when changing gear and another sound that appears to be a subframe bushing or something at the back
    Car looses power if you push it to deive. Have to take very handy. Probably maf or dirty throttle body
    Mil is on so could be related to that.

    Going to leave it for now.

    I think she'd take any amount of money at this stage. At least that's what I understood from the conversation. She has a 1 series replacement already bought.

    What a pity, such a good looking car, less than 10 years old, but so neglected that it's practically worthless now

    Sad to see it indeed. Also forgot it has a blow in exhaust, one of the suspension arms seemed to have a little play in it, rear washer not working and all three vipers are completely gone.
    Also the gear stick was all over the place and really stiff at the same time. Very common and two separate issues actually.
