Is there anything to be said for buying all these soon to be classic cars and just putting them in a giant shed somewhere?

Kiclcock breakers is where they will end up.
Very few of the so called future classic will ever make it to true classics and certainly not the neglected, basic spec models in the range.
Lots of so called future classics post here are just old cars coming near the age where it might be possible to get classic insurance.

You want rare and desirable to make it worth your while taking a gamble storing it for years

I'm sure they said the same about Mk II Escorts at one point.

I'd expect quite a few basic spec models to become collectable down the line. All ICE cars are going to become the sole domain of weirdo enthusiasts at some point, so the appeal will be entirely subjective. More than a few British Leyland fans out there, and God knows that wasn't exactly a golden era of manufacturing. Collectibility is mostly driven by nostalgia - different strokes.

Agreed, any vehicle manufacture can have issues but the Italian and French euro trash variety lead the pack. Fiat is trying to push their little POS 500 here in the US, not working out well for them

The Fiat 500 is a good car, with few issues, and proven Panda underpinnings. They're selling loads in San Francisco, if what I saw in June is anything to go by.

horse some gasket sealer into it. I've seen some yokes at deaths door run for a while without issues using the stuff.
There's one brand of it that seems to work best can't for the life of me remember its name though.

Seriously considering selling my '04 E60 BMW 520i automatic 2.2l straight six cylinder petrol now. Not for bangernomics money, but close enough to it. Car is taxed, NCT'd, serviced, probably one of the best in the country for this sort of money. I've owned it for well over 3 years, and it's a peach. Low mileage too. Would there be any interest?

You should have stuck with the ole fix it again Tony. You could try a can of Steelseal before condemning her.

Would you take an E46 318Ci with cash your way? ;-)

    I haven't posted any cars in a while... 2000 Saab 93, 2l, NCT Sept 2017, asking €1000
    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/saab-2l-for-sale/13508425

You can google the seller's name, and find out all about her. Very surprised if this isn't a genuine private sale.
The pics, however, are useless! (again, very surprised if not a genuine private sale!)

She's reduced the price I believe (because I remember first time I saw this ad I thought price was stupid high, looks just a little optimistic now), though she will probably still struggle to get asking (18 days, 69 views only!).

Having tried to sell one of these before, if someone had offered me €700 I'd have been very pleased, and at €500 would have been content enough if I thought the buyer was an alright sort and needed cheap transport. Could be value at €1000, would want to see history and interior.

Caveats: Tax is what it is, insurance might be a problem (age of car)? Even if it had the cracked bulkhead, and repair was judged necessary, if you could buy it for 500 you'd repair it for 500 and have the car for €1000. I like them to drive, and very comfortable and practical. Try to get it to start from cold, check for any smoke from exhaust on starting or on high revs (turbo charger problems). Look for check engine light, common enough to get failure of ignition cassette at this mileage (if that is the case, repair is €300 for part, and 5 minutes of time to fit, they even include the tool in the spare wheel tool kit).

Barely worth half the asking price, Chili...

You're probably right, seller may not appreciate that (yet). As I said, they're not easy sold, and I'd take €500 in the seller's shoes. I think seller may have had that for sale for €1600 or more originally.

The 00D 93 I was getting rid of (same age, little fewer miles, NCT out, but genuinely NCT ready, cloth interior), I ended up bartering with my mechanic for a full service on another car, and I was happy to get it off the road as I wasn't using it and bringing it to the NCT would have been a pain as it was not insured anymore.

At the same time, those cars are decent transport, boot is very big, seats comfortable, performance decent for what you're paying. The selling point on that one, for me, is the seller who is very "traceable": has a consultancy business, has worked in local government agencies, and with green party.

Gonna take advantage and throw up my sisters car (my old car ;))

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/ford-fiesta/13668419

Note, she has the engine listed as 1.3, it is in fact a 1.25 zetec (I've told her to change it)

As far as I know the 1.25 engine was a better engine than the 1.3 kent engine. Yamaha had some involvement in making the 1.25 engine as well.

    Nice car overall.
