My corolla estate could carry a honda 50 in the back and a lancia Y10 from wexford to dublin in under 6 hours. I'm yet to have another car that can do the same

    That's a land speed record for a Y10...

The UK is where you will find the Ignis 4Grip.
They were never sold here. Permanent 4 wheel drive, 1.5 ltr engine.

Being a small engined estate makes no advantage, IMO. Underpowered. :p

Well the saloon version isn't underpowered and that only weighs 30kg less than the estate. :)

Not exactly the most exciting of cars and that bonnet is a bit off putting but they're pretty comfy and its got nearly a years test

This Alfa got discussed a bit a few pages back, It didn't have an NCT before, but does now, gone up to €2350
(in fairness to seller, had a note in the original advert that he was putting it through NCT and price would go up afterwards)

    It's a painfully pretty car.

    Two more 156's, both diesel,

€950, NCT 07/16. Nice colour, nice alloys. Spoiler needs to be dumped but that's a simple job, meet the seller and if he isn't a boy racer it could be good value.

€1250, NCT 04/16. Nice leather Momo seats, nice alloys.

I had an identical one to the top one minus the spoiler. 1.6 TS, Christ, that car could rev. 180k miles on it by the time I got rid. Lovey handling and steering too.

If it's been minded, its a good buy. The pics do the colour no justice.

You met the seller already? (or a typo and you meant to recommend meeting the seller to check if he's a boy racer?)

How would the spoiler be removed (I agree the car would be much better without it)? Looking (sort of idly) at diesels, and the Alfa's would be an option that I'd find interesting.

As an aside: I'm not looking for a car urgently, is there any greater availability of cars around the Christmas/new year at this end of the market as folk at top end start buying into the new year's reg?

Nah, at this end of the market the time of year makes no difference to price or availability.

Would get a cleaner one with more test for that price

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,812 ✭✭✭✭bear1

I'd remove that poxy spoiler on the Alfa and it would look much better and a pair or OEM skirts would give it a meaner look at the side.
Then once done do a FMIC and a remap and you're laughing your way from the lights :D

One good day and you'd be thrilled. You'd also have a chorus of begrudging Irish pricks shouting w@^}€r at you which roughly translates into I'm jealous and envious but I'm too damn proud And self conscious to admit it :-)

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

you know, i would drive (and have driven) pretty much anything, my image in terms of the cars i drive is never really something i'd let cross my radar; yet, the second i opened that ad, i was thinking "no way, no how, never". i would genuinely be self conscious of what people would think of me if i pulled up somewhere and got out of that :pac: the word i think i'm looking for is pretentious :)

it has some great buzzwords, colour co-ordinated leather, convertible, 4wd, low range box, Japanese reliability, 17" alloys, reasonable tax price, lots of chrome, but all those things combined are a bit too much :P

i'd have that in a heartbeat, it's a shame they went bust, the last gen of MG's were gorgeous.

they get wayyyy to fanboi-ish over the BMW diesel thing though,
2.0 turbo diesel one of BMW best engines.

one of their best engines? seriously? isn't it the one with the timing chain trouble? the turbo trouble? the swirl flap trouble? or did Rover extensively change it up?

Rover detuned it and fitted a different turbo. It was extremely reliable due to that

Pity it isn't an auto. Rover didn't use the German ZF box that BMW used for that engine, but a Japanese JATCO box. Not as advanced but again extremely reliable.

I'm getting the impression that late 75s and ZTs with auto and diesel are actually going up in value!

My old 75, 04TN6012 lives in Churchtown now. I passed it on Sunday and it's still like new. It was lovely and the only reason I sold it was I got a stupid itch to change I never should have sold it

I beg to differ on the JATCO box based on a sample size of one and some additional research
