That Cabrio CLK... I can't remember what the problem was with the rear headrests in crash* position, but it's ringing alarm bells with me.

*the rear headrests extend like that and act as a roll bar when the car detects a rollover about to occur.

Also happens when you raise a wheel in a corner or hit a sleeping policeman or pothole a bit hard. There's a headrest button in the centre of the dash, keep the top of this pushed down for 8-10 seconds and it will retract itself if it's working properly.

Most Mini's in Bangernomics are 2001 or 02, so insuring them will be a pain. It's ironic as they're an excellent starter car, but prices on them are so strong that by the time they become affordable insurance companies won't touch them.

    2003, NCT 06/17, €1500

    Yes unfortunately thats the case.
However classic insurance should be achievable with some companies, which is making me think...

I would love that! Suspiciously cheap though? You'd hardly get a hubcaps 1.6 n/a Mini with NCT for that price?

He is a perennial favorite of this thread. His unique use of english aside, he seems to be doing straight forward deals on straight enough cars.

That saab is class though. Time for another one I think.

If the work stated has been done, this could be one to consider for those doing the mileage:

    1200euro, 2005 Accord

    But that tax....

No very good engine nice poke also.

I would like a Honda to some stuff out there.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,236 ✭✭✭alan partridge aha

Friend of the bro had 09 2.2 Accord, something went wrong with engine, was told dirty diesel and going to cost 6 or 7k to fix it. Insurance wrote car off.

BTW brother has 2.2 08 civic, he loves it, clutch went at around 100k km, nothing major since and there must be 300k km on it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,462 ✭✭✭projectgtr

The 2.2 is made from chocolate though isn't it?

Is it the same 2.2 from the civics? i thought they were highly regarded?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,152 ✭✭✭26000 Elephants

The manifold seems to be the weak point - but this one has had it done. Other than that its probably on a par with any other diesel out there to be honest.

They all have the potential to break your heart. At least you will look good crying inside the Accord. And the tears will simply roll off the leather.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

Lol. Thought they were famous for stretching chains too?

In fairness a friend has a 05 one with 195k miles on it and he only changed the original clutch and flywheel last week.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

It was the first diesel that Honda made. Not bad for a first attempt but the diesels from most other manufacturers are better.

Oh dear. Not €550 but €5,500 (typo, see his other ad) and not 1 day NCT as you say (and not 1 year as the ad says either)

It does have the guts of a year of PSV tax left...

The 2.2 in the accord is notorious for cracking the manifold which leaks into the cabin to kill you.
The chains are designed badly and prone to failure which can then lead to the next problem which is that the injectors weld themselves in place which results in them snapping during the chain removal.
There are 2 chains that must be changed...
The vsa unit loves to fail which isn't cheap and it detests any other fuel filter which isn't from a Honda dealer.
Throws the car into limp mode.

I like a car that trys to kill you but not like that
is it the same on the 2.2 civics or have those issues been addressed?

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,532 ✭✭✭JohnBoy26

The 2.2 is made from chocolate though isn't it?

Not at all. While it isn't as reliable as other honda units from the same era it's decent enough for a first attempt. Most of the work(if it can be backed up) has been done on that accord. The only big item missing from the to do list is the timing chain.

I don't believe the civic was affected as badly as the accord.
You'd want serious proof those jobs were done before buying.
I got stung badly when I bought the tourer version.
    Massive boot and cruises nicely.
Too many issues though in the space of a few months forced me to get rid and took an enormous loss on it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,812 ✭✭✭✭bear1

If anyone is interested in that accord ask for confirmation that the airbag recall was done.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

If it wasn't you could still just get it done for free couldn't you?

From reading the above from revenue the car must have an open market value of €2000. I'm presuming that's the Irish market value not the UK market value so that Lexus wouldn't qualify.

It is the Irish open market value (as seen by the Revenue). Some cars will have a perceived high value but just cannot achieve it - big engine, high tax, poor configuration, and just no-one wants them. Dreamers push up perceived value.

That 1.2 Panda looks fantastic for the money. I have one of these and really like it.

Rear cage might give me concern of possible smell of dog though?
