    2006 Vw Jetta 1.9tdi for €1,475
No mileage mentioned & drivers wing + bumper look a bit battered but it has tax until the end of the month, nct until late Jan 2018 & from a garage!

From looking at the nct disc, it looks like it has over 400,000km?

A 2004 Toyota RAV 4 for 850euro with NCT to June 2017. Yes I know the 1.8 petrol engine is thirsty but aren't they reliable?

They're not that thirsty relatively speaking.

I think thats a really good find. They're a very nice car.

My brother got a 2.2 diesel as a trade-in before Christmas and he's still driving it, great car.

The 1.8 is great because it's so uncomplicated.

If I was in Cork now I'd seriously consider buying that Rav 4
The next cheapest 1.8 2004 Rav 4 is 1500euro with 1 month NCT AND 30,000 more miles.

Only thing putting me off if that the seller might be econimical with the truth judging by his Vivario van with a massive dent to the side of it, where he describes same dent as "a small mark"

That has be a record Bangernomic. If the tank was full he may as well be giving you a few quid to drive it away...

After a few weeks of looking I finally picked up my new banger for the next year or so.

2004 Focus 1.4 petrol 400 euro with a few months nct left on it. It's a really nice blue colour, spoiler, new tyres/alloys and what feels to me like very new clutch.

I've already replaced filthy coolant and it will need an oil change very soon but that's part fo the fun....

    Well wear!

First thing on your list should be to book it into the NCT (early) before you spend any more money on it. If it fails and needs more work than it's worth -> dump it and get another bangernomics car. If it passes (or if it's easy enough to get it through the re-test -> happy days :)

There was another guy describing what looked like a nice car with some slight damage, looking at the pictures on DoneDeal, you could see it wasn't slight, but he still claimed he got worse out with t-cut, one side looked like it was dragged along a concrete pillar and the other hit with a sledge

Hard to know what way to view the NCT, no pic of the disc, is that early may or late? If it's so near, nearly to the 3 months, I think there'd be more buyers lining up if people just got a car tested, if they are reluctant it's a bit of a concern, although the cars for sale with maybe more NCT, too much to consider nct ing at least you get some driving out of them, still I'd be more wary of those offerings. I think someone commented on that engine as being ok but thirsty? No idea if it has a chain, but if it's good could be offering a full 15 month NCT, people would jump at that, as it is, they might be concerned to be left with a car that can't pass and not much use out of it

In fairness you can see the slight mark, about 2 feet under the massive gouge. :D

Looks like it's time for some new bangernomics for me. The €1900 190hp celica I've had for 2.5 years has a coolant leak that is finding it's way out the exhaust so it probably isn't worth repairing. Cost nothing more than servicing and a water pump in that time so it's not that bad.

I don't think I could drive something 'boring', (not that the celica is a supercar or anything), and I don't do a huge amount of mileage so reasonable tax is more important than fuel economy for me. That rx8 yesterday probably would have been perfect but I won't have time for at least another 2 weeks to properly go test driving.

So, something at least 'warm', up to 2.0, and not outrageously hard to insure as I'm still under the magical rolling age for insurers to give me a normal quote (28).

Sellers usually ask 2k for one of these.
Seems an honest car in family since new.
    Good spec and 2006

    Picked up my banger today.

03 Mazda 6, 1.8 petrol. NCT'd til end of May.

Airbag light on, which I fixed on the way home.

    400 notes. Happy enough.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,451 ✭✭✭CharlieCroker

Nice looking car. Test is up next month, I'd be concerned that it's already gone through and failed on something expensive.

If the reg was visible one would be able to check online if it had recently been for an NCT...

E60 gone already. How much was it? Yet another reason to put asking price and some more details in the thread. Once ad is gone, you can no longer see these...

    2004 Saab 93 2.0 petrol €500

Nct due in March and could be high mileage but it could also be worth a punt.

    Yes. And 2 speakers

Hmmm - NCT out in 5 weeks, no mileage stated and NCT and tax disks blurred. I'd be a bit wary and moreso with the I'm a sick man blather. Looks lke a 2.3 bagde but taxed as a 2.0 @ 710 p.a. As someone who is a bit of a Saab nut I'd say there's much better value to be had with a pre 06 Saab 9-5. The post 02 9-3 has a much cheaper feel and 9-5 a much nicer ride with similar mpg.

Harsh! It is a 2l Linear. Tax (until the end of March) and NCT (until 14/03/2017) are valid and your man is only looking for €500, no offers, but I'd doubt he'll refuse €400 cash in front of him

Not the nicest Saab in the world, but hey, a half decent taxed and tested one for a few hundred quid is a prime example of bangernomics to me :)

C200 petrol, manual for €1250, NCT 01/18, but taxed till September (worth €500) , so technically they're asking for €750.

Buy it, wash it, drive it, NCT it in October and see how you get on.

Possibly as rough as a badgers arse, but it's in Kerry, and as it's a petrol I reckon it'll be there in a couple of weeks and you'd get it for well under a grand or under €500 when you calculate the tax.

    There's worse out there folks.
