    Good advert
    Tax until Jan '16
    Test May '15
    Low miles

I don't get the love for Alfa'a in general but this one looks pretty.
    Nice colour combo.

    2001 Ford Galaxy 2.3 Zetec

2.3 duratec galaxy looks very clean, 2 owners, long test, tax till end of the year. Good cheap reliable family shuttle that has a bit of get up and go to it when needed.
The fact it could surely be got for €500 makes it even sweeter!

Nice spec, huge test, handy on diesel and excellent Renault 1.9 dci. Now that is cheap, reliable, affordable family bangernomics.

    03 Saab 95 - Nct June 2016

Can this mileage be real? 55000? If it is, are we on to a winner?
What's the story with sludge in these 2litre engines?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,860 ✭✭✭RayCon

^ Is it just me or does that look a little rough for only 55K miles ...

Could've hoovered the boot out too and says Service History up to 2012 ... that was almost 4 yrs ago.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Service Theft Alarm is on. More than likely means the batteries for the alarm are gone (which is not surprising after 12 years). You could DIY it but they have to be soldered in iirc (had the same issue)

I wouldn't pay more than about €800 for that car. If the service history checked out. And to answer your question: yes this car potentially has the slurry issue. And with the '05 cars now well into bangernomics (like my example), why pay more than bottom dollar for one which is potentially a write off within days?

Can this mileage be real? 55000?
My 1999 9-3 has 92,000 miles, 1.5 of which I've put on her in 3 months of ownership so it's entirely possible imo.

There seems to have been a lot of Saabs that were bought as second cars or bought by an older demographic that don't do much long-haul driving or commuting...

Cuter than most brand new cars for sure!

Mines a year older, same colour, better spec, same mileage now and cost significantly less than that more than two years ago. He's either a bit optimistic on the price or I got a far bigger bargain than I've recognised.

    Prob a bit of both?

Bit of both is right. It's only 4 years ago I was hoping to buy an S60 but even an early (10-11 year old) one would set you back €3k back then

Found a 10 year old Saab 9-5 instead in excellent condition with low miles for €1,350

Obviously nowadays a 10-11 year old S60 wouldn't be worth anywhere near €3k...

And in the above example the petrol S60 is very poor value compared to the E220 diesel (with €500 tax on it)

2.3 duratec galaxy looks very clean, 2 owners, long test, tax till end of the year. Good cheap reliable family shuttle that has a bit of get up and go to it when needed.

Get up and go (slowly). 142bhp and 12.3 0-60. 28mpg when new and €994p.a tax will mean low enough interest.

It is a ford galaxy though what are you expecting from it sports car acceleration? How many 0-60 races are ya going to do with a family shuttle? :pac: Fact remains for a family 7 seater it's no slouch, it should have good overtaking abilities and its faster than its diesel equivalent while still being about half the price of one with comparable test. Its also taxed till the end of this year so tax it for another six and see where ya are when the test runs out. You can make the tax argument for about half the cars in this thread so I don't see why the one that could probably be got for 500 should bother ya so much.

If its the narrow angle V6 it's overdue the timing chain change by 5000 miles, an engine out job as ford in a bmw imitation manoeuvre put the chains at the back....Nice.

It could be got for 500 though provided the chain isn't noising it could last a good long time, and also what's to say it wasn't done?
This is bangernomics you drive a car till it stops then scrap it. Family shuttle tested for a year all ya have to do is tax it for 6 months and chances are family motoring is done and dusted for less than 1k for the guts of another year. Can't see where the problem lies there lads.
    Edit: the galaxy 2.3 isn't a v6 it's a 4 banger. Basically a stroked 2.0. Couldn't swear whether it's branded zetec or duratec either way I believe it's relatively reliable.
Lads I think ye're taking bangernomics a bit too seriously.
