Timing belt due rather than done at 135k. I'd still have strong doubts of 106k

Indeed. Not sue how I missed that..!
I'd have doubts myself over the mileage too.
Twas prob a poor suggestion in hindsight..

I'd hazard a guess he meant 160k. Might be a genuine typo but it is worrying the amount of people out there who seem to be incapable of dealing with numbers over 100.

Either way seems a decent car for the money.

People do slag Corollas for being bland, but those Passats are the definition of bland. If that Passat was a packet of crisps, it would be ready salted. If it were a biscuit, it would be a digestive. If it was a drink, it would be still water.

    Volvo 460
Unusual one here, a tidy-ish looking volvo 460td with tax and test till July 2016. Priced at €750 but surely got for less the colour is a bit iffy but it kinda suits the car all told though it makes for a very cheap yet unique daily diesel driver.

It wouldn't be everyone's cuppa tea but you're not gonna meet many of them on the road and it does have a sorta retro appeal. These 1.9td Renault engines were quite good aswell i think some of the Renault extra vans had them and they were good reliable old yokes.

Just came here to post that! As you said it won't appeal to everybody but a taxed and tested turbo diesel at that price will surely appeal to someone!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,208 ✭✭✭Long Time Lurker

Somebody go and buy this now. Effortless motor which can easily cover twice what's up on it, wonderfully comfortable and even reliable. This is twice any Avensis or Passat of the same vintage. Mind it and it'll last forever.

And for the city drivers. Facelift 2004 Punto with test until 2017 for €700

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/2007-ford-focus/11150872

2007 Ford Focus saloon, only a 1.4 but might suit someone looking for a runaround. Test until 2017 and tax until 1/16, €1995.
No change of ownership and test is legit but the lack of insurance disc and the ad in general suggests trader selling. But even still

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,097 ✭✭✭johndaman66

Focus is cheap for the year I'll give it that but I'd be very apprehensive of touching one of them with 200k miles on it irrespective of what kind of service record it may have...not every car I'd say that about but the Ford certainly is one.

    Saab 93 9-3 SE TID Tax/nct

Another helping of unusual diesel motoring here, a 2.2 diesel saab 93 coupe. I think these are lovely looking cars and it appears to be clean, average milage considering the age of it too. I'm assuming these are the same 2.2 outta the vectras and omegas they're an engine I know nothing about reliability wise but the car itself is tested till September 2016 and taxed till the end of March, they're asking €995 but surely could be got for a touch less. So on the surface at least it looks to be a cheap yet classy diesel car for a relatively small outlay when you consider the tax on it.

    Yeah Deepblue I'd say that's a typo.

Would this be a decent car to pick up?
    NCT a bit short, maybe?

Seems like a good car for the money. I do like the estate.

Looks like a decent car, but I would take the sellers advice and bring a mechanic :)

The trim level is classic, which is pretty basic. Cloth seats for starters and I doubt there will be more than the bare minimum of creature comforts.

Tell the seller it can be booked in for an NCT in Sligo tomorrow and if it passes (test valid until March 2017 then) and you like the look of it, you'll give him €1,250 cash tomorrow night :)

I always liked the look of these:

'05 C4 VTR, NCT '17 asking €1,450. Taxed till the end of this month too

And of course another good value Saab 9-5 with no sludge issues:

    50147837.jpeg

'05 9-5 Auto, NCT till May. Asking €1,200, surely yours for a grand. Where else in the world would you get a comfortable, large, luxury, pleasant, safe, only 10 year old car in very decent condition for just a grand?

Why just city drivers? My Punto was up and down on the motorway, Mondello and still got 40+ MPG. :)

Good point. We drove a first gen Punto loaded with camping gear and with windsurfing gear on the roof and we crossed France north to south overnight with cruising speeds of around 150km/h. Can't remember the MPG but it mustn't have been pretty :pac:
