Thats mad. Their only redeeming feature was the fact that they never broke down. That is so long as it didnt run outta oil.

If I were you id try and get the 1.9 tid engine which is actually more powerful and more economical. The 2.2 is a pretty old engine and you can get the 1.9 for relatively good prices. If you could get a 150 1.9 vector with a longish test for under 2k you'd be laughing.

Blah blah - big tax - blah blah - petrol - blah.

I'd have it over any 1.6 or D4D anyway. Might be a touch more juicy on gogo and rent but you won't spend 3 million quid fixing DMFs and injectors of a diesel or spend every waking hour lifting the bonnet of a 1.6 to make sure he hasn't used more oil than petrol and try to get locked. This thing could potentially cost you nothing, not a shilling on repairs over the time.you own it. Haggle hard.

Is it just the photo or does it look like the back passenger side door has had a (very bad) bit of paint?

Someone took a spray can to a few scratches it seems. It's a very easy fix it this is the case. A micro fiber cloth and a bit of petrol will remove that spray and the area can then be touched with the matching color using a toothpick or a small brush.

Volvo V40 LPT with leather & wood for under a grand. I had one of these, quite unassuming!

Now this would want scrutinising. Nicely speced 130 bhp Bora TDI with 80k miles and full service history and new NCT for a good bit under €2k. Unmolested too but with a fresh import plate I'd go in with my eyes wide open

With my mileage, I could go either way, with the diesel or the petrol.

For a spares car it makes perfect sense. As a bangernomics car it could with an nct though :)

For 200 quid, well worth nct'ing it. Probably the cheapest car posted on here in a long time. Obviously would (and did) suit someone who knew what they were looking at.

There are plenty of sub 200 euro cars out there with no nct though. Sure if someone knew what they were looking at it might make sense to them. However It might need no work and then again it could cost a bit to put through a test and may not be a bargain after all.

The thing is for not much more you can get a very clean example of one of those with a decent test so why bother with an average example with no nct?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,937 ✭✭✭SmartinMartin

Obviously it made sense to whoever bought it. I'm a bit puzzled though, how do you know it's an average example and not a very clean one?

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

There's another thread for cars with no test. In here cars need to have test! The longer the better imho :)

Several cars of around €400 have been posted in here with tests until 2017...

I don't but given that the pictures were taken in near darkness id bet it is. Unless I was living around the corner I wouldn't entertain viewing something like that.

Guessing, but that's your view. Bargain for someone anyway.

Any opinions on Polo / ibiza / fabia 1.2 as a first car for an 18 year old.
I'm guessing running costs shouldn't be too crippling .. 45 plus mpg ?

we had one for a long time, i wouldn't recommend one.

Yeah, it's like a cheap Golf, but the engines are ****e and the rest of the car isn't great either. Ours was very well maintained and although it never left us stranded at the roadside it was a bit crap, the engines are made from chocolate and ours had a real taste for wishbone bushings yearly which are rather expensive and if they aren't replaced the car will go through tyres like nobody's business.

a more realistic expectation would be 35mpg tops, i'd be used to driving small cars with **** all power but you really have to thrash the polo to get it going.

but for starting off driving it would be ideal

    if you like hardship, yeah.

it's like a small car with big car bills. something like a mk6 fiesta would be a much better call.

i no what its like, i started on a 1.0l corsa. terrible car but it did the job to get me going then once passed test upgraded to corolla 1.4. Awesome car

that type of thing yeah. that one is an LX though and they are a bit dull, heres a much nicer Zetec model, similar money, unfortunately a 1.4 but that doesn't make a world of difference really

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/ford-fiesta-zetec-3door/11214705

or here's a top spec Ghia (alloys, fogs, colour coded bumpers, aluminium dash, air con, sunroof) for a little bit more

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/ford-fiesta-2003/11022802

both are dearer than the LX but there's no reason why you couldn't have either for around €1500 if you are a good haggler.

The diesel one isn't bad, and I think the springs are generally quite low on them.
Test is a bit too low for me though, I'd be wondering if it would pass the next one.

    I quite like these - '05 Citreon C4
    Test until Jan '17
Might be a bit of a deal to be had on this one. Don't think there will be too many suitors considering engine size, fuel, only two doors and badge..
    Asking €1,450

    '88 Sierra Sapphire
Overpriced but it meets the requirements.
I have a huge soft spot for these, my uncle bought one brand new in 1987.
2.3 diesel. He used to bring it back from the UK every summer for two week holiday.
I used to spent the entire two weeks sitting in it or looking at it. It was jet black with a tiny red stripe and he kept it immaculate.
He passed away a few years back and his son held on to it, only got rid last year and sold it without telling me..

    Anyway..

    Test Jan '16
    Bit of Tax
    Asking €1,950

Ford Ka, comes with an interesting yarn about an Italian lady to tell your mates, 7 months test asking €550
